Medicinal melilot in the garden and in the country
A biennial plant of the legume family, sweet clover can be found in glades, meadows, along roads. Its yellow paniculate inflorescences have a pleasant sweet aroma. Donnik looks great in the garden, but it is grown more often not because of its decorative properties, but for medicinal purposes. Donnik is an excellent antiseptic. Steamed grass is applied to abscesses, boils, rheumatic joints. It is added to the bath when bathing young children, it works no worse than the popular series.
Melilotus officinalis also has a calming effect. A decoction of it is drunk for insomnia, headaches and heartaches. This plant, when taken orally, thins the blood, therefore it is used for varicose veins, thrombophlebitis, lymphostasis. They also drink infusions for atherosclerosis, hypertension, colds, lack of breast milk in nursing mothers.
The cultivation of this unpretentious plant can be carried out on almost any soil, excluding sandy and swampy. It cannot be grown in lowlands, as it will die if flooded with melt water. Melilot propagates by seeds, which must be scarified before sowing (break the hard shell). For germination, they need a temperature of about 2-4 degrees. It is enough to weed and loosen the seedlings.
In the first year, the root of the plant and the green mass are actively developing. The plant will bloom only in the second year after planting. During the flowering period, medicinal raw materials are harvested, for this, the flowering shoots are cut and dried under a canopy, having previously tied in bunches. Then the bundles are threshed, the raw material is crushed and stored in a closed container.
We plant sweet clover in our garden constantly and make a soothing collection from it for the winter, which helps with excessive excitement and insomnia. You can put dry flowers in a pouch under the pillow.
