Gooseberries: care, pruning, help in getting rid of diseases and pests

For planting gooseberries, it is better to choose October. The planting pit should be 60 * 60 by 30 centimeters in size, prepared in advance, not necessarily in the previous season, but three weeks in advance. Wood ash and potassium sulfate must be added to the pit. Too long roots of the plant must be pruned; the root collar must not be buried more than five centimeters. You can plant two plants in one pit, only they should be directed in opposite, different directions. After planting a plant, its shoots should be cut to five healthy buds. Around the planted plant, you need to make a hole, shed well and mulch.

Gooseberry pruning should be done when the plant is at rest, that is, either in late autumn or early spring. If there are sections above 8 mm in diameter, then they must be covered with pitch. Old branches, which are already seven years old, need to be removed to the base, weak and diseased branches should be removed, leaving five good, healthy branches on the bush. A healthy cut over a bud that does not look into the bush. Having formed the bush correctly, maintaining its shape, as a result, there should be up to eighteen branches on the bush, which are of different ages.

To prevent pests from pests, gooseberries in early spring, when there is still snow, are thoroughly scalded with boiling water, but only through a sprayer, and in May it is imperative to loosen the ground under the bush, as well as around it. Also, in early spring, you need to feed the bush with a mullein solution or nitrogen and potassium fertilizers.

Infusions of tobacco, wormwood and ash will help fight diseases during a period when chemistry cannot be used. To combat diseases that often affect gooseberries, Bordeaux liquid, mullein infusion, calcined salt, and lye should be used.
