Garden blueberries and their cultivation
Garden blueberry refers to a perennial low-growing plant that not only fits perfectly into the landscape design of your summer cottage, but also gives tasty healthy fruits.
However, she, like any plant, requires proper care, which is based on certain rules. First of all, garden blueberries are demanding on the composition and moisture of the soil. The shrub grows best in acidic soils.
As for watering, it should be moderate. The plant does not tolerate both the lack of moisture and its excess, since the roots can begin to gradually rot.
Planting garden blueberries
Growing blueberries will be much more successful if you choose the right planting site. The site must be sufficiently well lit. If you hear somewhere that blueberries can grow even in the shade, then in this case we are talking exclusively about the wild varieties of this plant. Therefore, you do not need to think that garden blueberries will feel comfortable in such a place.
It is best to plant blueberries in the fall, although some gardeners do this in the spring as well. The best planting material is two- and three-year-old bushes. Garden blueberries, planting and caring for which cannot be called difficult, thrive in the ground mixed with peat and ordinary sand. After planting a blueberry bush, the ground around it is compacted and then watered abundantly.
Sawdust, mineral (potassium, magnesium, ammonium sulfate) and organic fertilizers are used as fertilizers. And, of course, blueberry bushes need annual pruning of the bushes.
