Technical requirements
Companies whose employees often work outside in any weather, for example, Internet providers, utilities, builders, must, according to the law, provide raincoats. This obligation is provided for by the Labor Code. That is why the manufacturing process of waterproof raincoats is strictly controlled by GOST. In GOST 12.4.134 - 83 “Men's raincoats for protection from water. Technical conditions ”describes in great detail all the standards and requirements that must be met by the product ready for commissioning.
According to the regulatory document:
- all raincoats are made in accordance with the standard;
- there is a certain list of materials acceptable for use in the sewing process, from which raincoats are made - indicated is the fabric, lining, impregnation, which can be used in the process of sewing in production;
- the dimensions of the raincoat, the thickness of the lining and the amount of impregnation, the presence of a hood, pockets or collar must also comply with the international standard.
According to the regulatory document, each product, before entering the consumer market, undergoes a number of laboratory studies and tests, after which its compliance with the requirements and technical parameters is determined.
The marking indicates the date of manufacture, material, size, expiration date. The manufacturer must specify the rules for the use and care of the product.
Criterias of choice
In order to choose work, waterproof clothing, you need to know exactly what season you need it for. But in any case, it is good when clothes have a hood that is adjustable to fit the oval of the face. All seams of clothing must be sealed to prevent moisture or dust from entering. Clothing should be fitted with breathable pockets or inserts to prevent fogging of the body. Winter workwear models protect against moisture and have frost protection.
It is good if there are signal stripes in your clothes that will ensure your visibility in the dark. Whatever the front fastener - a zipper or buttons, it must necessarily be covered with a special bar that protects from getting wet and wind penetration. The cuffs on the sleeves should have ties and fit snugly around the wrist. Overalls can combine a jacket and a removable liner, which is perfect for wearing in winter and during the demi-season.
See below for an overview of the waterproof lightweight suit.
Types and models
All kinds and models of raincoats from different manufacturers are presented on the market. Clothing differs in many ways:
- in length - are long, medium length or short;
- by color scheme;
- by the features of the cut.
But the most important criterion is the material from which the product is made. According to this parameter, the raincoat is like this.
Canvas. This type of product is most often used by employees of various service companies who, in the process of doing their work, are often on the street. Such a product protects well from moisture, dirt, wind. For manufacturing, a tarpaulin is used, a water-repellent impregnation of the SKPV, PV or SKP brand, the density of which must be at least 480 g / m2. Each seam is sewn 2 times, this increases the strength and water resistance.
We also want to offer you some of the most popular models of waterproof raincoats that protect well and meet all requirements.
Poseidon WPL blue. The manufacturing process is carried out strictly in accordance with GOST 12.4.134 - 83. It is made of raincoat fabric, the water resistance of which is not less than 5000 mm Hg. Art. PVC is used as an impregnation. The material is environmentally friendly, safe, fully complies with the quality standard. The gluing of the seams is of high quality, the raincoat itself is comfortable and light.
Waterproof and breathable fabric: what the numbers on the label tell you
To determine, from the rain of what strength and duration waterproof suits will protect the fisherman, such a concept as "waterproofness" will help. The parameter is measured in millimeters and characterizes the pressure of the water column at which the fabric will not allow external moisture to pass through.
The water resistance is indicated on the label with numbers:
- up to 10,000 mm - entry level, suits work well with short precipitation, withstand drizzling rain and light sleet. Comfortable season - summer, spring;
- from 10,000 to 15,000 mm - medium level membrane for fishing in the fall. The suit will not get wet in heavy rain, withstand prolonged rain and gusty wind;
- 20,000 or more - extreme clothing will protect the fisherman from any precipitation and hurricane wind.
Demi-season fishing suits
Waterproof seams and fasteners, special valves on the pockets also make fishing suits waterproof.
These are the details you need to pay attention to when shopping for clothes.
If you have a membrane suit with a water resistance of more than 10,000 mm, you can fish even in pouring rain
A more important characteristic is air permeability (or vapor permeability), that is, the ability of the fabric to "breathe". The indicator is measured in grams per square meter in 24 hours: the higher the number, the faster the internal moisture will evaporate
Peculiarities
A waterproof raincoat today, like many years ago, is a very popular and demanded attribute of clothing during rainy weather. The only difference is that earlier raincoats were made of thin oilcloth, and the same oilcloth belt was used for fixing, while modern models are made from high-quality and durable materials. In most cases, a durable fabric is used for sewing a raincoat, which is covered on top with a layer of polymer material or a rubberized pad.
This workwear has a number of features and advantages, among which it is worth noting the following:
- complete moisture resistance;
- high level of protection;
- strength, reliability;
- long service life;
- lack of seams;
- the waterproof raincoat is well ventilated;
- modern models are made with pockets or overlays, which is very convenient;
- availability of modern reliable fasteners;
- wide choice and assortment of both sizes and design. There are also poncho-shaped models that are popular among the fair sex.
If you have chosen a high-quality model for yourself, then you can be absolutely calm and confident that not a single rain can wet you.
Review of the best manufacturers
One of the most popular companies engaged in the production and sale of workwear is the Nitex-workwear brand. The company was founded in 1996 in Nizhny Novgorod. She specializes not only in the manufacture of waterproof clothing, but her assortment also includes acid-alkaline clothing, clothing for welders and metallurgists, as well as overalls for various other services for winter and summer.
The Russian brand Energia osodezhda has been operating since 2005, providing the market with overalls and personal protective equipment. Her assortment includes waterproof raincoats, suits and aprons. The yellow waterproof suit is designed for use in the warm season. Weighs 970 g and has both waterproof and permeable properties. The suit consists of a PVC jacket and trousers. There is a central zipper on the front, which is covered with a special windproof strip on the buttons. There is a hood adjustable to fit the oval of the face. At the bottom of the jacket there are two patch pockets sewn with Velcro closures. Sleeve cuffs are equipped with a wide elastic band. Thanks to the air exchange valve, good air circulation is ensured, there is no "greenhouse effect". There is a wide elastic belt at the waist. The suit is perfect for working in the rain, protects from the wind, suitable for fishermen and mushroom pickers, as well as tourists.
Magic membrane
Membrane fabrics stand in a separate line of materials used in waterproof breathable fishing suits.
The term "membrane" refers to one of two technologies used for processing the back of a synthetic fabric: lamination with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or application of liquid impregnation.
The membrane prevents moisture from entering the outside and helps to remove perspiration from the inside. This property allows us to characterize the material as "breathable", its chemical structure reliably protects against rain and wind.
Distinguish between pore, pore-free and combined membrane.The characteristic is important for choosing the right suit in accordance with the season and the nature of the fishing.
For the summer months, especially when fishing on the go, it is better to stick with the pore option. Such clothing has instant breathability, that is, it removes moisture as soon as the fisherman begins to sweat.
Note! The pore membrane quickly loses its protective properties with improper care. To restore them, you will need to purchase special impregnations .. In porous-free models of evaporation, bodies first settle on the inner side of the membrane
This creates the feeling that the clothes are wet. The tissue begins to "breathe" only after a certain time, but its vapor permeability is higher than that of the pore version. Autumn and spring are the best times to use a pore-free membrane, especially if fishing from a boat is planned.
In poreless vaporization models, the bodies first settle on the inside of the membrane. This creates the feeling that the clothes are wet. The tissue begins to "breathe" only after a certain time, but its vapor permeability is higher than that of the pore version. Autumn and spring are the best times to use a pore-free membrane, especially if fishing from a boat is planned.
There are combined membrane tissues. The high-tech option is ideal for any fishing season and conditions. There is only one minus - the costumes are expensive.
Outer fabric: why it doesn't get wet
Leading manufacturers use materials based on polyester and nylon in different percentages as a basis for the manufacture of fishing breathing suits:
- taffetta, a lightweight glossy fabric with high hygroscopicity, covered with a film on the inside. Under the influence of moisture, it does not lose color, does not deform;
- taslan is a polyamide material with a special structure of weaving of threads (small rib). Water resistance is provided by one of the types of impregnation: PU, WR, milky;
- Oxford, a rigid, durable fabric consists of embossed squares, arranged in a checkerboard pattern (weaving "matting"). Differs in high resistance to external influences due to polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride coating;
- Duspo, soft to the touch, with a matte surface Lightweight material is 100% polyester. It has very high windproof properties. Synthetic impregnations do not allow moisture to pass through.
Natural materials (cotton, linen) can also be included in the waterproof base. Such fabrics are called blended fabrics. As a rule, summer fishing clothes are sewn from them.
The water-repellent properties directly depend on the composition of the impregnation with which the material is treated.
For fishing suits they use mainly:
- polyurethane coating (PU), applied to the inner surface of the fabric (the thicker the impregnation layer, the harder the material);
- impregnation WR, applied to the front side of the garment, water rolls down from the surface in drops without being absorbed into the fibers;
- Milky (another name for Visible), a white compound is applied to both sides of the material. In addition to water resistance, the impregnation enhances the brightness of the color of the products. Most often used for the manufacture of down jackets.
A special way of weaving Oxford fabric repels water droplets from the surface of the product
Impregnation information is not always indicated on the label, sometimes you can find the generic name "Water-repellent polyester".
