Brand history
The Finnish company Fiskars has a long history - it was created back in 1649 during the reign of the Swedish queen Christina, who gave permission to the founder of the brand Peter Torvostet to make forged products from cast iron. Gradually, the plant began to produce rod iron, which became the raw material for the production of hoes, various threaded parts, nails and many other types of garden tools.
The economic crisis of the 20s of the last century seriously hit the plant, at that time it was necessary to curtail the work on the manufacture of inexpensive garden shears and almost completely switch to the production of budget products of lower quality. The enterprise was able to return to its former greatness only by the end of the Second World War. In 1968, a new line of plastic-handled garden scissors was created, which became popular and recognizable thanks to the orange hue, which later became the brand's signature color.
In 1977, a separate plant was opened for the production of pruners and garden loppers, it was at that time that the products began to conquer the markets of many other countries. In our country, the brand's products have been sold since 1994.
Thanks to the experience gained over several centuries, the company has learned to respond flexibly to changes in market trends and has firmly established itself as a manufacturer of high-quality and practical garden tools.
Application Tips
Before starting work, you need to assemble the tool and configure it to fit your needs. To do this, you need to connect the halves of the telescopic handle, and then pass the drive cord through a special hole in the rod and pull it through it so that it connects the secateurs and the handle (which is usually orange). Although the combination of a telescopic handle and a hidden drive cord (and the use of PowerGear on some models) increases the safety of Finnish delimbers compared to cheaper counterparts, gardening is still more hazardous. The greatest threat comes from pruned branches and twigs falling from a height, which can cause serious injury, especially if it gets into the eyes.
Characteristic
The Finnish company Fiskars traces its long history back to 1649, when a metal processing center was founded in the village of Fiskars. Since then, the company has established the production of various metal tools, including gardening ones. The company is widely known for its high-quality knives (the famous "Finnish") made of special steel grades.
It was a Finnish company in 1997 that first created universal delimbers that allow pruning of twigs and branches both at low and relatively high (up to 6 m) heights. This versatility has become possible due to the use of a telescopic handle folding mechanism. Since then, offers from other manufacturers have become available on the market, but it is Fiskars products that still remain the quality standard and "trendsetter" in this niche.
The cutting edge of the tools is made of durable steel, while the handle is made of either aluminum alloys and carbon fiber or polyamide, which makes it possible to achieve a combination of power and lightness. Another important feature of the Finnish garden tool is the use of a ratchet mechanism in the pruner, which allows you to fix the tool in the place of the planned pruning. This greatly improves the accuracy and usability.
All models have an adjustable cutting head, which allows you to control the angle of inclination of the secateurs up to 230 °. The maximum diameter of branches that can be cut with Finnish tools is 3.2 cm. The drive of the cutting part in the Finnish delimbers is hidden inside the handle, which further increases the safety of work.
Peculiarities
The Fiskars brand produces a versatile multifunctional lopper that efficiently processes overgrown shrubs and tree crowns, as well as cuts dry and damaged branches. All sorts of additional devices are usually attached to such tools, such as a garden saw or a container for collecting fruits. The lopper is designed in such a way that it is possible to reach both low-growing branches and those growing at a height, while dispensing with the use of stairs and stepladders - the vertical range of the devices reaches 4 meters.
The cutting blade generates enough force to cut the most neglected branches. Each product has two levers - one located at the end of the handle, and the other in the very center. The head can be swiveled through 230 degrees, which provides high maneuverability, so the tool can be used to work in the most difficult to reach places.
The composition is made of polyamide, reinforced with glass fiber, as a result, the delimber becomes incredibly strong and at the same time very light. The blades are coated with a protective Teflon coating to reduce material resistance and friction during work. In addition, some models are additionally equipped with a contact head, which is designed for cutting especially hard wood. The blades are curved, they successfully cope with dry and live flowers up to 5 cm in diameter, carefully cutting off the branches, without squeezing or damaging the soft tissues of the plant, thanks to this, the cut site heals very quickly.
The most modern models are made in a telescopic version, such devices can cut branches at a height of up to 5 meters. Most Fiskars models are complemented by a dedicated PowerGear power drive to meet the needs of the most discerning gardener. These tools are equipped with gear mechanisms, they increase the force of the gear, so that the cutting force is evenly distributed. Such devices make it possible to significantly facilitate pruning of branches several times in comparison with other competitor designs. The handles are ergonomic, lightweight and durable, covered with rubberized pads.
