Operating rules
A circular electric saw is a rather simple tool in technical terms, but at the same time, its improper operation can be fraught with injury, not to mention damage or accelerated wear of the main components of the mechanism. To prevent all these negative phenomena, you should carefully read the instructions supplied with each copy before installing and starting work. Even if some of the provisions from the instructions seem far-fetched or insufficiently substantiated, it is better not to ignore the advice of the creators.
Even before buying, you should carefully study the instructions for the saw for specific working conditions. This is especially true for battery units, which can discharge much faster in severe frost conditions, or, in the case of an old nickel-cadmium battery, have a "memory effect", forcing the battery to completely discharge before charging. It is also important that charging the battery for such units usually takes about half an hour, however, for each model, you can use only a specially released licensed charger that provides the required current characteristics, otherwise a quick breakdown of the battery cannot be avoided. Recall that the battery can be replaced, but it usually costs more on its own than all the other parts of the unit put together.
For information on how to choose the right hand-held electric circular saw, see the following video.
Criterion # 1: Disc diameter and device power
The outer diameter of the cutting blade (not to be confused with the bore) is the main parameter of the circular saw. After all, the larger its size, the more powerful the engine is needed to gain the required rotational speed of the disk. This parameter determines the starting speed of the saw, the smoothness of its operation and minimizes the risk of jamming during the sawing process.
An engine with more power needs a good stabilization system that protects against wobbling, unnecessary vibration and noise. Therefore, powerful models are larger and more expensive, but at the same time they allow you to work with large workpieces and thicker sawn timber.
According to the power of the motor, such tools can be divided into 3 groups:
- Hand-held models for cutting small workpieces with a capacity of 0.6–0.8 kilowatts.
- Household tools suitable for almost all types of household work with a capacity of 0.8-1.2 kilowatts.
- Universal professional devices, the power of which is from 1.2 kilowatts.
In terms of power, it is worth choosing a circular saw, depending on the volume of future work and the speed with which they need to be performed. The power consumption for the simplest models ranges from 0.6 kW, and for professional ones it can go up to 2.5 kW.
Location of the electric motor
It is convenient to use such a saw to cut felled trees or to harvest firewood. The disadvantage of this arrangement is the disturbed balance of the instrument, which causes significant discomfort when holding it in the hands for a long time.
The sideways position of the motor on the chain saw also makes it difficult to cut trees horizontally. The cuts with such a saw are not quite even. But it is worth noting that the price of electric saws with this motor arrangement is cheaper than models with a longitudinal electric motor.
A chain electric saw with a motor, which is placed along the body of the device, will help to cut the tree more comfortably.The cost of units with a longitudinal arrangement of an electric motor is higher, but by overpaying, you can become the owner of a universal tool.
Due to the longitudinal positioning, the chain saw is perfectly balanced and comfortable to hold in your hands. With such a saw, it is efficient to cut at any angle and the process itself will be more comfortable.
Blade length. Depending on the purpose for which the tool is used, the length of the cutting part (tire) also varies.
Small tires with a length of 30 to 40 centimeters are quite suitable for working on personal plots, trimming branches and preparing firewood. If sawing on an industrial scale is required, a longer bar will be required.
Electric Saw Chain Brake
throwing the tool up
The presence of the chain stop function, which is made in the form of a plastic shield and located near the tool handle, allows an involuntary hand movement at the time of the saw rebound.
This movement will move the guard forward and stop the chain momentarily. The chain stops instantly, therefore, the possibility of injury to a person is completely excluded.
Overheat protection. This function is a relay that regulates the temperature of the device. When the maximum load is reached, the relay automatically switches off the engine, thereby preventing its overheating or ignition.
Engine heating can occur for various reasons, but the most common situations are chain seizure during operation or when the oil level in the tool reaches a critical level.
Hammer models
The Germans lead some unbiased rankings for circular saws and sawmills in the mid-price segment. They purchase such equipment for home workshops, and the manufacturer gives a guarantee for uninterrupted operation for up to 3 years and warns in a special instruction about the need to observe safety precautions.
The circular is distinguished by positive factors:
- engine power;
- good cutting depth;
- the presence of a laser;
- side stop;
- simplicity of regulatory processes;
- excellent build;
- speed of turns;
- ease of use;
- smooth and fast cuts.
Everything is fine in the device - the price is not too high, you can keep within 6,000 rubles, a portable format, but such a pleasure weighs 5 kg. This is the only drawback of this design.
A tool is used to make a direct cut with a cutting element on wood, aluminum or chipboard material. The construction of houses and summer cottages does not take place without a circular, when you need to dissolve the board, give the desired shape to plywood. The high performance and maneuverable saw helps you get the parts you want with great precision and no dimensional errors.
The power of the electrical installation allows you to perform carpentry work of any complexity. Where the elastomeric pad, which is wrapped around the main handle with the auxiliary handle of the saw, is securely fixed. The powerful motor with smooth descent and thick steel base delivers speed with quality cutting. The saw blades in the device are carbide-tipped. When they are changed, the shaft is blocked.
Of course, each craftsman chooses equipment according to his needs and material abilities. New reliable designs with security measures are periodically put on sale.
But the master must himself comply with the standard rules with electrical equipment:
- do not turn on the device until all the constituent elements are fixed;
- work according to the stipulated norms, turn off the saw in time for rest;
- carry out repairs when a malfunction is detected;
- protect the body and organs with clothing, shoes, mask, glasses, gloves.
When the circular was just brought to the workshop from the store, before starting the work processes, you need to study the operating instructions. You should not disassemble the tool under warranty yourself, there are service centers for this.

Household or professional tool?
Like any power tool, the electric chain saw is presented on the market for household and professional models. Professional tools are more powerful, which allows them to operate without stopping for a longer time. It is better to choose them when you need frequent use.
Most professional models are equipped with the function of maintaining a constant engine speed, as well as vibration protection and comfortable handles
The only drawback of professional chain saws is their high price, which is often several times higher in comparison with household counterparts.
Household chain saws are more designed for short-term work. The time of continuous operation of the tool is limited to 10-15 minutes, after which it is necessary to pause, giving the engine "rest".
The simple design of these models and the use in the production of inexpensive materials can significantly reduce the cost of household electric chain saws.
In order not to miscalculate, before choosing a chain saw, determine for yourself the scope of the proposed work and the frequency of use of the unit. If you need a tool for seasonal work in the country, it is quite possible to limit yourself to the household option.
