Remember the hobbits' dwelling from the Lord of the Rings movie? So ultra-green, all covered with grass and trees. All life is intertwined with nature. It turns out that in architecture there is such a direction as "arbo-architecture" or, in Russian, "botanical". Its concept implies the use of living plants, tree trunks, lianas, moss, etc. as building structures.
The direction is gaining great popularity, like everything is "green". Large houses and even cities are being designed, where the walls and roofs of all buildings will represent the roots and trunks of trees. The problem is that this architecture takes a long time to build. And it's pretty difficult to design everything. But the brave New Zealand businessman Barry Cox has been growing his green church for over 4 years.
Barry's main focus is landscaping, not architecture, and he is not an expert in the new botanical style. Connoisseurs of "arbo-architecture" will find a lot of flaws in his church, however, it is impossible not to feel the amazing unity with nature, its spirit, being there.
We will not talk for a long time about what plant varieties Barry used for various elements of the building. If you are interested, you can find this information on other sites. We will only add that this church is open to visitors, although it is located in New Zealand, to which we can get from Russia in 30 hours.
