Nuances depending on the type of t-shirt
Each product has its own individual approach. It depends on the style and decor options. It is necessary to use different folding methods for the following product categories:
- T-shirts with prints;
- polo shirts;
- sleeveless jackets (or wrestlers);
- garments with three-quarter sleeves.
You need to fold clothes so that they do not wrinkle, fabric and decor do not deform during storage in a bag or closet
Women's T-shirts decorated with sequin embroidery require special care in handling. These items can easily fall off during the T-shirt packaging process.
With print
To fold the printed T-shirt correctly, place it on a hard surface with the wrong side facing you. In order to avoid the formation of microcracks in the picture, it should never be bent. The sleeves are folded over the back. If the image covers the entire front surface, it is better to use the tourist method. Classic and children's schemes are also suitable.
Polo
Before folding the polo, you need to check that there are no creases on the neck. Pack the shirt with the collar facing out. For this, the product is placed face down and smoothed. The middle is tucked into the hem, the sleeves are folded back. The resulting rectangle is split into three equal parts, the edges are bent. The T-shirt is turned over and stored in the closet as it is.
Before you fold the polo shirt, you need to straighten out all the wrinkles and bumps. The three-point method works well, or you can use a board. The tourist method should not be used.
Sleeveless T-shirts
The choice of packaging method should be based on the length and width of the T-shirt. For large, tight shirts so they don't wrinkle, the roll-up method is best. If the sleeveless jacket is wide and only reaches the middle of the abdomen, it is advisable to apply the three-point method.
"Road" option for travel
Travelers know that it is better to wrap things in a roll to leave room in a suitcase. T-shirts are no exception. Thanks to this neat method, nothing will wrinkle, and clothes can be put on without additional ironing. For "home" storage, do not wrap the roll in a cuff - the bottom of the item will quickly stretch. What needs to be done:
- flatten the fabric on the table;
- make "cuffs": turn the bottom edge up;
- the right side folds into 2/3;
- sleeves are retracted;
- the neck has a rectangle - wrap it in a roller;
- The cuff must be turned out when it comes to the opposite edge.
The resulting roll is neatly wrapped in "cuffs".
A little tip: do not start folding the item right after the ironing is completed: there will be folds on the warm fabric. Iron the shirt, straighten it and wait for half an hour.
The ability to fold T-shirts will be useful to everyone - this is a significant saving in ironing time. The folded item looks neat and does not require additional ironing.
Features of folding other things
Of course, there is no single way to fold different types of blouses: hostesses need to store jumpers and sweatshirts, which have their own characteristics.
Blouse
You can use any of the following methods to fold the jacket:
- folding without aids;
- use of cardboard;
- rolling on a hanger.
hoody
When folding a sweatshirt, the hood creates a problem. What to do with him?
- Bend the hood of the sweatshirt straight down.
- Place the sleeves on top of the seam.
- Fold in half or threefold - depending on the size of the jacket.
This method is suitable for storing children's and adult clothes. You don't have to hang the sweatshirt on a hanger and waste extra space in your wardrobe.
Long sleeve jumper
In order to fold the long sleeve jumper, you can also use any of the presented methods. Sleeves are placed along the seam or along the armhole, while they must be inside the product.
Long sleeve
All methods are suitable for shirts and sweaters, except for the "three arms", as it does not provide for the "automatic" folding of the long sleeves.
All other methods work fine here, with only one correction for folding the sleeves. How to do this can be seen in the picture:
This method of folding the sleeves works not only for the classic method presented here, but for everyone else.
At first it may seem that not all of the methods presented here can be done in 5 seconds. But it is enough to practice literally a couple of times, and you can fold things instantly.
The most important thing here is to find the method that suits your hand and your liking the most, and then everything will work out quickly and simply.
How to fold a T-shirt for a gift
If you want to present an original T-shirt as a gift, present it in an unusual way. Be sure to use a cardboard rectangle: it will fix the product for stability. It can be a book, a beautiful photo album, a photo frame - as a creative addition to the main gift. We perform the following actions:
- the thing lays down with a pattern, gently straightens;
- a solid base (cardboard, frame, album) is laid out in the middle of the fabric;
- the left and right edges are wrapped on both sides of the rectangle;
- the sleeves are tucked up;
- the hem folds down to the middle.
The item is turned upside down and wrapped in a package.
How to fold a sweater
The sweater is usually stored in a closet on a shelf or placed on a hanger. But on the hanger, the thing can stretch and deform, and over time it will look worn. It is best to stack your clothes neatly on the shelf.
Especially for the housewives, they came up with an auxiliary item for blouses - the so-called "folding". This useful thing is inexpensive, but it takes up quite a lot of space. But if you don't want to spend money on a folding box, you can use cardboard or a hanger.
As in the store
Store employees know exactly how to fold any item so that it looks attractive. Vendors can fold a bulky knitted sweater as compact as possible. They use the following instruction:
- Place the item on a flat surface.
- The sleeves are centered so that they do not intersect.
- Fold back the bottom of the sweater, turn the product over, and fold it again.
The process takes very little time. In this form, the sweater will not wrinkle and will fit compactly on the shelf.
With a hanger
Another method used by experienced housewives is to fold the jacket with a hanger. The usual plastic hangers are used, which do not match the size of the sweater. The essence of the process is to wind the thing on a plastic base.
The jacket is folded in half, and the hanger is placed on top. In this case, the hook should be in the axillary space, and the base of the shoulders should be placed closer to the neck. Then the hem is raised to the top, the sleeves are sent there. In this form, the sweater can be hung in the closet.
Fast method
Often, housewives do not have time to thoroughly clean the wardrobe. If this is the case, choose the fastest folding method for the sweater. To do this, use a folding bottle. With the help of this auxiliary object, the lower part and the sleeves are folded alternately, after which the thing is folded in half.
No foreign objects
Follow a few simple steps:
- having laid out the product on a flat surface, the sleeves are folded along the seam line;
- the jacket is visually divided into three parts vertically;
- the extreme thirds are folded so that the edges close in the middle;
- further, the sweater is divided into three horizontal parts, including the straightened collar;
- fold the edges in the same way.
Having straightened the formed folds, the thing is put on the shelf.
Beautiful as a gift
The ability to correctly fold a thing is needed not only to create comfort in the house. If you are going to give a sweater to someone, you need to pack it beautifully. They do it like this:
- putting the jacket with the back side up, the sleeves are bent along the armhole;
- having marked the place of intersection of the sleeves, bend them down from the starting point - they should be parallel to each other;
- fold the jacket in half and pack.
Having opened the gift, the recipient will see a beautiful thing that will not wrinkle.
Roll in a suitcase so as not to wrinkle
It is equally important to properly pack warm clothes when going on a trip. To prevent the sweater from taking up a lot of space in your suitcase and not having to iron it later, follow these steps:
- With the sweater spread out on the table or on the bed, fold the sleeves in the middle.
- Fold the body in half.
- Twist the product tightly, starting at the folded edge.
- To secure the result, tighten the item with two elastic bands.
Other products are also folded in rolls. So there is no useless free space in the bag, and you do not have to leave your favorite things at home.
Into the cupboard
Putting a hastily rolled-up sweater on a flat pile of things in the closet, you don't even have to dream of maintaining order. To neatly fold the jacket into the closet, the product, as in other cases, is divided into three parts. Bending the lower part, the sleeves are laid along the armhole so that the design resembles a rectangle. The resulting rectangle is bent in half, while the sleeves and the neck should be inside.
Using a sheet of paper
The simplest aid for folding a jacket is a thick sheet of paper. Take A4 cardboard, paper is placed on the back of the product.
Having folded the sleeves like an accordion, the main part of the jacket is bent several times. All that remains is to pull out the cardboard and put the sweater in its place. This method is also good for gift wrapping.
Gift option
If you want to present a thing as a gift, you need not only to fold it beautifully, but also to fix the shape. To do this, you need a sheet of cardboard in landscape format.
Step-by-step instruction
- Spread the item right side down.
- Place a piece of cardboard in the center of the item. Its top should touch the collar.
- Tuck the right and left edges of the product so that they bend around the "frame".
- All that remains is to fold the bottom of the T-shirt and pack it in a gift bag.
The cardboard method is perfect if you need to fold things for storage in the closet. Just remove the sheet before the last step.Putting all the things in this way, you get an even stack. Instead of cardboard, you can use a children's A4 drawing album.
In order not to waste a lot of time on packing and to look neat, you need to know a few tricks on how to properly fold a T-shirt after ironing. Do not hurry. Allow the garment to cool completely after ironing, otherwise the warm fabric will wrinkle and fold. Next, you just have to choose a way to beautifully fold a men's T-shirt or women's T-shirt. With a little practice, you can stack your belongings in neat piles for compact storage or easy transport just as well as the staff of the boutiques.
What affects the quality and speed of folding T-shirts
The more often things are packed in the chosen way, the faster the skill is honed. It is recommended to collect clothes immediately after use. It is recommended to form a stack of T-shirts of the same quality and cut. In this case, things will lie flat, without the formation of folds.
In addition to skill, the speed and quality of folding is influenced by the fabric from which the clothes are sewn, the presence of additional details (collars, pockets, frills, shuttlecocks) and accessories.
T-shirts from which fabrics are most neatly folded
The quickest and most convenient way to fold things made from natural materials. Linen or cotton clothes will lie neatly in the closet, no additional ironing is required before use.
What is the role of fittings
Buttons, appliqués, lace ribbons and other decorative details make it difficult to fold the garment. It is better to store things with convex fittings on a hanger.
Traditional method
Used by sellers in the markets in order to beautifully show potential buyers their goods. You will have to spend a little more time, but the method has a right to exist:
- The thing is taken with the front side towards you. About a third of the T-shirt is tucked together with the sleeve to the center.
- The product is folded in half. Straighten out all the folds that have turned out.
- The second sleeve is tucked so that an even rectangle comes out.
After what has been done, you should get a beautiful, neat thing. The same as in presentable clothing stores.
The second variant of the same method:
- The product is placed on a horizontal surface with its front side.
- On the left side, the thing is tucked 1/3 parallel to the side. The seam should "look" towards the collar.
- A similar process is done from the opposite side of the shirt. The sleeves must be folded as evenly as possible so that they do not wrinkle in the closet. The shirt should look like a flat rectangle.
- The lower part of the T-shirt is tucked on the back so that the fold is about 10 cm wide.
- Now the product needs only to be folded in half, and turned over with the front side facing you.
We use special devices
For a long time, there have been several handy accessories that simplify the process of folding and storing clothes.
Vacuum seal bags
This simple, but not so widely known thing helps many housewives around the world to save free space in the closet. You can buy one at any home goods store. The essence of using it is to put your clothes in a special sealed bag and use a special hand pump to pump out maximum air from it. Clothes folded in this way takes up much less space, and vacuum bags can be used an unlimited number of times.
Roll-up grid
Another household helper is a series of interconnected movable plastic grates. Lay the T-shirt face down on them and bend one by one. As a result, out of all your clothes, you will get even, identical rectangles that are convenient and pleasant to fold into the closet.
The main advantage of such a lattice is that you can make it yourself.You will need 3 identical rectangles made of thick corrugated cardboard measuring 72x25 cm. Cut one of them in half and glue it with tape in the place of the cut so that it bends freely. The remaining two parts are also movably glued to the top of the cut rectangle.
How to quickly fold a T-shirt: everything ingenious is simple
Tidying up the closet is a favorite pastime for young girls, especially if you have a lot of free time and a lot of stylish things. But men with order are not so lucky, sometimes it seems that they simply cannot fold their clothes neatly. However, absolutely everyone can learn this simple matter - it is enough to know a few nuances and devote very little time to the folding process. The result will not be long in coming - you will gain the glory of a real cleanliness and pedant.
Folding a T-shirt so it doesn't wrinkle or take up a lot of wardrobe space is actually much easier than it might seem at first glance. There is one unique way that allows you to beautifully fold a T-shirt in just one move.
- The first step is to lay the T-shirt on a flat, hard surface. Let's straighten all the seams.
- Let's draw a conditional line in the middle of the product from the left edge to the right. Also draw a line from the middle of the right shoulder to the bottom of the shirt. Let the intersection of these two lines be point A.
- The upper point in the middle of the shoulder will be called point B. And the lower point - exactly below it - point C.
- With our right hand we grab the fabric at point A, in parallel we grab the shoulder of our T-shirt at point B with our left hand.
- Carefully connect point B and point C.
- Turn it over, shake it, put the T-shirt with the neck up.
You should have a perfect square. In this case, the left sleeve of the T-shirt will be on the outside, and the right sleeve will be fixed between the deflection. This way, you get a securely folded item that won't wrinkle or take up much space in your closet or suitcase.
Features of folding polo shirts
Polo shirts have a collar, which should preferably be left outside when folded. So the Mari Kondo method and the compact method are not suitable for storing them.
Italian, three-grip, shop, and gift folding methods are ideal. Store the polo on top of the pile to keep the collar from wrinkling.
Knowing the different ways of folding things makes life a lot easier - tested in practice! Clothes wrinkle less, more comes into the closet (especially if you combine any of the traditional folding methods with Japanese), and the wardrobe door can be opened without embarrassment in front of strangers.
Features of folding t-shirts

How to fold for travel?
The methods of folding things into a bag or suitcase differ significantly from those that can be used at home. Their main goal is to save free space and make sure that the thing does not wrinkle in the bag, and not provide an aesthetic look. Several simple and quick ways will allow you not only to economically organize things in your backpack, but also to quickly collect your bag for a business trip, on a trip or on a hike.
Italian method
The first method came to us straight from a country where compactness and order are highly valued.
-
Grasp the shoulder seam with one hand and the bottom with the other.
-
Lift it up, bending the sleeve with part of the sidewall back.
-
Now fold the shirt, folding the second sleeve in the same way as the first.
-
Now fold the resulting strip in half, flatten and fold in half again. This should create a small rectangular bundle with a collar on the front.
Tourist method
The previous method is aesthetically pleasing, but what if you're going on a long trip or hike? There is no guarantee that the T-shirt will not turn around and wrinkle somewhere in the backpack. In this case, there is a method invented specifically for lovers of hiking and outdoor activities.
-
Fold the hem of the shirt 10-15 cm.
-
Fold the sleeves towards the center so that the resulting strip is as thin as possible.
-
Roll it into a tight roll, not forgetting to first smooth out the folds and irregularities.
-
Fix the resulting roller using the hem that was previously folded up.
In addition, you can wrap money, keys and other valuables in T-shirts folded in this way.
Japanese housewives method
The Land of the Rising Sun can also show the world an original solution to the problem. It is worth noting that it is more suitable for clothes made of thin fabrics, for example, cotton or linen.
So, let's analyze the method in stages.
-
Lay the shirt out on the table regardless of side.
-
The sleeves are folded in the same way as in the previous method.
-
Divide the resulting long rectangle into 4 parts.
-
Fold the hem so that it does not reach the neckline by about 15-20 cm or ¼.
-
Then fold the item in half and again in half.
This method is relevant when you fold a large amount of the same type of clothing.
Can a T-shirt be folded in one move in 2 seconds?
Pretty, does not mean long - a suitable description of the following method:
- Place the clothes with the front side to you, straighten them.
- Imagine three points along which the flexion will pass. To do this, mentally draw two lines: one vertically next to the neck or through the middle of the shoulder, the second horizontally, dividing the clothes into two parts.
- Point A will be in the middle of the shoulder, B - at the intersection of the lines, C - at the bottom opposite to A.
- Fold the shirt in half, pulling point A to B with your left hand, extend your right hand with the corner of the clothing at point B.
- Shake the garment and fold the second edge symmetrically.
When storing things, it is important to fold them compactly so that they take up less space in the closet and do not get wrinkled.
The method sounds complicated in words, but once you try it in practice, you can complete the steps in a couple of seconds.
Taking this method into service, you can compactly arrange things in the closet, while they will not be able to wrinkle.
How to fold a shirt?
Men's shirts are the standard of good taste and elegance. And so that your business suit does not get damaged during the move or during storage, learn how to fold a shirt, saving a lot of space and time ironing things.
- The shirt is also pretty easy to handle. Let's take a regular men's long-sleeved shirt.
- We lay out the product with the front side, the back "looks" up.
- We bend the left side of the shirt (approximately to the middle of the shoulder, along with the sleeve).
- Fold the sleeve in three folds - from the shoulder to the cuff.
- Leave the cuff open so that it does not wrinkle.
- We add the second side by analogy.
- We fold the right edge of the shirt back to the middle of the shoulder, and lay the sleeve in the middle, parallel to the seams of the product.
- Smooth the sleeve and fold it up to the collar.
- We fold the lower part of the shirt, which is usually tucked into trousers, by 5-7 cm.
- And then we connect the bottom of the shirt and the collar.
- Turn the product over and get a neatly folded shirt with a perfect collar.
Such a wonderful design can be easily packed and put on a shelf, and then at any time you can take out and put on a beautiful, not crumpled shirt.

How to fold different types of T-shirts
Polo shirts require special attention due to the presence of a collar that does not allow the product to be folded in the usual way. Otherwise, the clothes will be remembered, and the collar will lose its shape. To fold the polo shirt nicely and correctly, lay the item right-side up and straighten it out. Take the bottom edge and middle of the shoulder along one line, fold lengthwise towards the middle.
Fold back the sleeve and repeat on the other side. The resulting triangle is mentally divided into three equal horizontal parts. We bend the lower edge twice and turn the structure over with the front part towards us. You will get a neat rectangle with a collar on the outside.
To put the T-shirt right side to you, place the hood on top and spread the material with your hands. Fold the hood over the shoulder line and fold the sleeves towards the center over the hood. Fold the pieces in the middle so that the front, sleeves and hood are inside.
If it is a T-shirt or a sleeveless jacket with a hood, we immediately fold both parts of the product along to the middle. After the manipulations done, we fold the thing in half or fold it three times. The latter method is more compact and economical.
T-shirts, tops and sleeveless tops can be folded in four steps. To do this, lay the thing horizontally, wrap the left and right sides with an overlap. Bend the edges of the resulting rectangle from the top and bottom to the center. Then we fold the product in half.
First, we also fold the long T-shirt with an overlap, then fold the lower edge two-thirds, and fold the upper one at the top. And after that they are folded in half. Fold the top with narrow straps by one third from the top with straps to the middle. Then we fold over the left and right sides.Bend the resulting rectangle in half or bend the edge twice.
Long-sleeved shirts are folded like a shirt. Spread the garment on a flat surface, wrap the left side towards the center and fold the sleeve so that it is parallel to the fold along the T-shirt. We repeat the procedure with the remaining side. We wrap the bottom edge by one third and fold the product in half completely. Read more in the article “How to fold a long sleeve sweater”.

Types of trousers and how they are folded
For each type of trousers, they use their own methods.
Jeans
Before you put a denim item on the storage shelf, you need to perform a number of actions:
- be sure to remove the belt and empty pockets;
- check for dirty areas (if there are dirty spots, the jeans must be cleaned before laying);
- the product is shaken vigorously, after which you need to pull the edges of the trousers;
- jeans are laid out on the floor or table;
- fold the pants in half by connecting the legs;
- smooth out all creases;
- connect the bottom of the leg with the belt;
- the resulting rectangle is bent in half again.
Pants without arrows
With trousers you have to work a little. Fold them at the seams, which are located on the side:
- the product is laid out on a horizontal surface;
- folded in half through the zipper, grabbing the product in the crotch area;
- in order to prevent bending along the entire canvas, it is better to keep the trousers on a special hanger, which has a crossbar with foam rubber.
Delicate trousers
Trousers made of cotton or linen wrinkle quickly, so it is undesirable to fold such things several times. Creases are formed at the place of the bend, which will be difficult to smooth out.
How to pack for a gift
You can quickly fold the T-shirt using the liner. It should be made of paper similar in density to cardboard. In shape, it is a rectangle of the same size as the main part of the thing (but slightly smaller so that it does not peek out from under the clothes). You can pack immediately after ironing. Below is a step-by-step folding algorithm:
- The T-shirt must be turned face down before packing it nicely.
- Fold the hem down to the middle, wrap one sleeve towards the shoulder area.
- Repeat on the other side and smooth out the wrinkles.
- Connect the bottom of the shirt with the collar.
- Place the cardboard inside.
- Pin off the resulting rectangle.
Once you've finished folding the T-shirt, you can wrap the present in brightly colored paper. For this, the material is spread on a hard surface. The folded garment is placed in the center. The package is folded from four sides towards the center, secured with pins or transparent tape. In the middle, you can glue a bow or a bright picture. Gift paper should be thick.
How to fold a printed T-shirt correctly?
T-shirts with pictures and inscriptions are fashionable and beautiful, but after a while an unpleasant surprise may await. Prints, especially those applied at home or in outdated ways, tend to crack and crease. This can be avoided by following simple rules.
- Do not bend the drawing! Depending on its size, you can use any of all of the above methods, and with a complete seal, it is better to stop at the "road" method.
- When folding the shirt, lay it face down and wrap the sleeves over the back.
- Do not fold the garment immediately after ironing while the drawing is still hot.
From long-term storage in a closet or suitcase in a crushed form, the pattern with creases will deform, and the thing can be irretrievably damaged.
One-step folded T-shirt: origami method
Second name: "Japanese" way of folding the jersey. This option is often used in boutiques and clothing stores, as it allows you to perform the procedure quickly and accurately. A little training will help bring it to automatism and manage a mountain of things in a matter of minutes.
The step-by-step instruction looks like this:
- the product is ironed, lies face up across the surface. The neck is on the left side;
- mentally draw 2 straight lines: for one, the base is in the middle of the shoulder and goes down. The second line runs across the thing;
- find the point of intersection of the lines;
- mark one more point for yourself - at the bottom of a straight line extending from the shoulder;
- your left hand holds the item by the shoulder, then winds by the right. The hem is picked up at the point below;
- if done correctly, all that remains is to shake the thing.
Place the shirt on a table and straighten the sleeves inward.
How to fold a t-shirt compact and quickly: 3 ways
You can quickly fold the T-shirt, you can fold it in the middle and fold it in half, but our task is to do it correctly and beautifully! The first method has the right to life, but if you want things to preserve aesthetics for as long as possible, not to deform, and there is an ideal order on the shelves, there are several simple methods of folding clothes.
Method 1: 1/2
The easiest way to fold T-shirts and T-shirts.
Iron the garment to be put in the closet or luggage well beforehand and let the fabric cool down. Iron products with prints from the inside out to avoid direct contact of the paint or film with the platform. When the shirt has cooled down:
- Carefully flatten the product on a flat surface (on a table, bed, or even on the floor), face up, so that there are no creases.
- Roll the sleeves inward towards the center. The long sleeves are first folded over the armhole and then diagonally to match the hem with the bottom of the T-shirt.
- Mentally break the product into 1/3 or 1/4 pieces in width, depending on how much space is on the shelf or whichever is more convenient for you. Long sleeves should be parallel to one another, or the top sleeves should be on the bottom.
- Fold the side pieces together with the sleeves towards the center.
- Fold the rectangle in half.
Method 2: 1/3
The second method is good in that the folded product takes up less space and its lower cut is completely protected from deformation. Thus, it is recommended to fold clothes with a "slanting" bottom, decorated with lace, fringe, and the like.
- Spread the product on a flat surface.
- Wrap the lower part so that the middle part is slightly more than the depth of the armhole.
- Bring the side parts to the center.
- Fold up the sleeve so that it does not protrude beyond the rectangle.
- Tighten the bottom and neck.
Method 3: 1/4
You can fold the T-shirt as compact as possible if you use the first method, and then bend the product one more time, aligning the middle with the shoulder line and the neckline.
