How to make tea properly
Ivan tea lovers advise this method of preparation: add two tablespoons of tea to a half liter container and pour boiling water over them. Close the lid tightly and let it brew properly. The cooking time should take at least fifteen minutes. Drink it both cold and hot. The properties of willow tea remain unchanged. Try to use clean water and do not bring it to a boil.
Already used tea leaves can be poured with boiling water several more times. During re-brewing, the concentration of nutrients in the tea increases.
If you need to heal a rash on the body or cleanse wounds, then make a concentrated decoction and use it daily at least three times a day.
Decoctions and tinctures are prepared from all parts of this plant. For medicinal purposes, roots, leaves and flowers are used:
- For gastritis and colitis, the following composition is made: two tablespoons of crushed leaves are poured with a glass of boiling water and kept in a water bath for ten minutes. Take a warm broth daily, one tablespoon five times a day.
- For acne, an alcoholic tincture of fireweed is prepared. To prepare it, you will need one hundred grams of vodka and two tablespoons of raw materials. The composition is kept in a dark place for seven days. Wipe the blackheads with a moistened swab twice a day.
- For headaches and insomnia, a more concentrated broth is prepared and consumed four times a day, two tablespoons.
- For angina, gargle with tincture of ivan tea several times a day.
- A decoction of the root is used to strengthen immunity and with anemia. To do this, take one tablespoon of crushed, dried root and fill it with two glasses of cold water. The composition is placed in a water bath and kept on it for thirty minutes. This remedy can be taken in courses of two weeks. Usually the rate is three tablespoons a day.
How long does it take to dry Ivan tea in the oven and at what temperature?
After completing fermentation, the components of the plant are laid out on a baking sheet, covered with parchment. Maintaining the saturation of the plant and not overdrying it is the main task that requires knowledge: at what temperature the process is performed. If you put fireweed in an oven with 200 degrees, it will lose all its properties, and its use will no longer make sense. Therefore, it is impossible to dry ivan tea in the oven at temperatures above 60 degrees. This indicator is the most optimal. It is also recommended not to cover the oven completely so that there is little air flow.
The readiness of raw materials is checked by hand. Dried leaves should not stick to your hands and break easily
In this case, it is very important not to bring them to a state of dust. The drying process itself lasts about one hour.
It is necessary to constantly check the condition of the grass so as not to spoil it. When the leaves acquire the desired state, you need to turn off the oven and leave it open, while not removing the raw materials from there. The finished fireweed resembles ordinary black teas in appearance. Other drying methods are also recommended: using an oven or an electric dryer. It is believed that a real Russian stove is able to endow the plant with healing energy. In fact, it is very difficult to find such an oven in a modern city, so you have to use possible drying options.
For those who seriously decided to take up this process, we have a video on how to dry ivan tea in the oven. It describes in detail how best to complete all stages of preparation and not overexpose the grass. Drying it will give it an unpleasant paper taste. These are undesirable consequences, because the broth should not only be useful, but also taste good. Therefore, the training video is a very convenient way of explaining, because everything happens clearly. You do not need to read from a piece of paper what and where to put, how to turn it on and off, to what readiness to bring. There is also a video about the correct collection, the fermentation process and other components when harvesting medicinal plants.
With such simple actions, you can dry ivan tea in the oven, stocking up on useful plants for the winter in other ways. In addition to its beneficial properties, the herb tastes and smells good. It will help you keep warm on cold autumn evenings and improve your health. The fireweed has everything you need for strong immunity and good mood.
The main methods and ways in which you can dry the grass Ivan tea
All plant components (the presence of not only leaves) must be dried separately. To accelerate the process of drying Ivan tea leaves in a home environment, use an electric dryer, an electric oven, or an oven of the old days. As for drying small lilac flowers, after harvesting, they are laid in an even neat layer on a shallow baking sheet or spread, covered with parchment paper. The maximum oven temperature must not exceed 30 ° C, otherwise they will dry out. The readiness of drying is determined by the shade of the flowers - it should become a deep purple. Basically, flowers are added to the dried grass of Ivan-tea in order to get aromatic and pleasant notes of tea. When it comes to drying sheets, the process is somewhat different. You can dry fireweed foliage using different types of equipment.
If this is an oven, then the first 1.5 hours the temperature should not exceed 100 ° C, the oven door should be slightly opened at a distance of 1-2 cm. After that, it is necessary to reduce the temperature to 50-60 ° C and dry it until moisture completely disappears from the leaves. Readiness is checked while mixing tea leaves at your discretion. If the tea leaves are properly dried, they acquire the color of natural black tea. To obtain green tea, drying is carried out at a constantly low temperature (about 50 ° C). Next, we take out the baking sheet from the oven and let the tea leaves cool to room temperature.
Many of those who collect and dry herbs use an electric dryer. The temperature during this process should be no more than 90 ° C so that the prepared product does not lose its useful properties. Depending on how prepared the raw material is, on average, drying can take 5-7 hours. This process must always be under control! Otherwise, if you set a higher temperature or overexpose the tea leaves, you may end up with an unpleasant taste of paper rather than tea.
There is another, as many believe, the most faithful and ancient method of drying - in the oven. The natural way of cooking and the fire does its job perfectly, giving the tea a fragrant taste and preserving all the healing properties. After the oven is melted, it is necessary to stand for about an hour, and only after that you can start the drying process. And then the drying scheme is approximately the same as in the oven: a baking sheet with a uniformly spread mass is placed on hot coals (logs) and the tea leaves are dried until fully cooked.
Drying grasses of Ivan-tea under the rays of the sun is strictly prohibited! If it is possible to do this without the help of equipment, then you can lay out the leaves in a well-ventilated dry place. This method of drying Ivan tea takes about one week, which allows you to preserve the most useful and medicinal qualities of the drink.
Drying, withering and fermentation at home
After collecting tea raw fireweed leaves should be wilted. The process of drying the leaves of Ivan tea also takes place under certain conditions. For example, the bright scorching sun is not suitable for these purposes, since it dries out the plant and destroys its beneficial properties. You also cannot use newsprint to dry fireweed leaves.Drying of fireweed herbs is carried out in a shaded place, where direct sunlight and moisture do not penetrate.
Ivan-tea grass is laid out on a clean surface in one layer. About 24 hours is enough for the leaves and flowers of the plant to dry.
After a slight withering of Ivan-tea raw materials, when the leaves have succumbed to wilting, you can start fermentation. To do this, there are several ways that are quite applicable at home. Yes, and it is worth noting that, as a rule, only the leaves of the grass lend themselves to fermentation. The flowers of the plant do not need fermentation, and therefore they are only given over to drying, and then used for brewing.
Traditional way of home fermentation of tea
The first fermentation method is very simple, it is called manual. To do this, you just need to rub dry grass leaves between dry palms, until the juice is released from them. And then just put them in a sterile and dry jar, cover with a damp cloth made of natural fabric and put in a dark place for three days.
Fermentation of tea using a meat grinder
This fermentation method is ideal for those who have prepared raw materials in large quantities, and grinding it by hand is too painstaking work. An ordinary meat grinder simplifies the work of fermenting a large amount of tea raw materials.
The raw material is passed through a meat grinder using a knife with large holes. Then, the chopped leaves of the grass are placed in plastic bags, which, in turn, are placed in a cool, dark place for three days.
After three days, the raw materials are laid out on baking sheets and dried in ovens with an open sash and constant stirring.
Under oppression
Another way to ferment Ivan tea at home is under pressure. In this case, you should use a plant cut entirely. Initially, all raw materials are divided into two equal parts. With the help of a juicer, juice is squeezed out of one part of the raw material, and the second part is put into a saucepan, filled with the resulting juice, and on top we cover and put the so-called "oppression", which can be a wooden circle, a lid with a heavy load (weight, stone or any other heavy object weighing at least 20 kg).
An important point or condition that must be adhered to: direct contact of the cargo with raw materials must not be allowed. Otherwise, the tea will have a disgusting taste, and the raw materials will be of no less disgusting quality.
"Twisting"
And the last method used to ferment tea is called "rolling". It was used in the last century. And do not be afraid of the laboriousness of this method, since the result is simply overwhelming. The tea that is obtained after fermentation by rolling, believe me, is not worth such an effort.
The first step in this method of Ivan-tea fermentation is to lay out a large fabric, always linen, natural, without synthetic impurities. Then, using a spray bottle, we moisten the entire surface of the fabric. The third step is to lay out dried or slightly dried raw materials on it in a thin layer.
When all the herbs are evenly distributed over the surface of the fabric, twisting begins directly. We roll the grass together with the cloth into a "roll". Moreover, the denser the “roll” is, the better the fermentation process will be. In the course of twisting, with the help of the same spray bottle, the fabric is additionally moistened.
The next step is to tie the resulting fabric-grass roll with a rope, and thus fix the raw material inside the “roll”.
Now you should be patient and monotonously grind the raw material by bending and straightening the "roll". This stage lasts at least half an hour. After that, for two to three hours, it is necessary to leave the grass in the tissue for fermentation.
You can check the readiness of the tea only with your own palms. If heat comes out from the "roll", about 37 ° C, this means that the primary fermentation process is over. This means that you can spin the "tea roll" and lay out the grass in glass jars, in which the secondary fermentation of raw materials will take place. The jars are covered with a wet cloth and placed in a dark and cool place for three days.
Cooking method
To make the drink from Ivan tea fragrant, it is recommended to use a mixture of dried leaves and flowers. Dry plants are simply rubbed with hands and poured into a storage jar.
The recipe for making tea is very simple: pour 2 teaspoons of herbs with a glass of hot water and leave for 10 minutes. After that, the drink is ready to drink. To add flavor, tea can be supplemented with dry berries.
The preparation of Ivan tea for medicinal purposes differs depending on the disease that needs to be eliminated:
- With diseases of the digestive system and headaches. A glass of dried herbs is poured with the same amount of boiling water, insisted for several hours and filtered. After that, the ready-made infusion is drunk in a tablespoon 4 times a day.
- In case of bleeding, acute respiratory viral infections and anemia, a tablespoon of raw materials is poured with a glass of hot water and boiled for 15 minutes. Use in the same way as in the previous recipe.
- For the treatment of pancreatitis, the following recipe is used: 3 tablespoons are poured with one and a half glasses of hot water and insisted for 10 minutes. The infusion is taken warm in 50 ml before and after meals.
The recipes for making Ivan tea for the treatment of other diseases are based on the same principle. However, before taking any folk remedies, you must consult your doctor and clarify the dosage and method of preparation. In addition, Ivan tea is often supplemented with other medicinal plants: lemon balm, peppermint, nettle or plantain.

Drying and fermentation at home
After the collection is completed, it is necessary to dry the raw materials. To do this, spread the willow tea on a clean surface with a layer of about five centimeters. Leaves and flowers should just dry out, as a rule, one day is enough for this.
It is very important to do this in a dark place where direct sunlight does not penetrate.
If you put raw materials in the sun, then it will dry out and lose all its healing properties. It is better not to use a newspaper for these purposes.
After the raw material has slightly wandered, you can proceed to the next stage - fermentation. Fermentation can be carried out in one of the ways listed below.
The traditional way
- We grind the raw materials in the palms so that the leaves give juice.
- We put it in a three-liter jar.
- Cover with a wet cloth and leave in a dark room for thirty-six hours.
How to ferment raw materials using a meat grinder
The most ordinary meat grinder will help to simplify the fermentation process. This method is best used when you need to process a large amount of raw materials.
, because it can be very difficult to grind it in your hands. So, the process of making Ivan tea in a meat grinder:
- We pass the raw materials through a meat grinder. It is better to use a knife with large holes.
- We put the crushed raw materials in polyethylene bags.
- We place the bags filled with willow tea in a dark, slightly cool place for thirty-six hours.
- Dry in the oven with the door open, stirring constantly. Tea fermented in this way will resemble granulated tea, and when brewed will have a slightly richer color.
Under oppression
For this method, whole cut plants are used. To ferment fireweed "under pressure" follow the instructions:
- We divide the raw material into two equal parts.
- Squeeze the juice out of one piece using a juicer.
- Put the other half of the raw material in a saucepan.
- Fill the raw materials with juice.
- Press down on top with "oppression". "Bending" is a wooden circle or lid with a heavy load (at least 20 kg) on it. You can use a weight, a stone, any heavy object as a load.
Make sure that the raw materials do not come into contact with the load
otherwise, a product of disgusting quality and taste may result.
- We leave raw materials for 72 hours.
"Twisting"
This fermentation method was used by our grandparents. It is somewhat more laborious, but the resulting tea is worth any effort. So, we ferment ivan tea using the twisting method:
-
- We spread the linen cloth and moisten it. It is more convenient to use a spray bottle.
- We lay out the dried raw materials on the fabric a layer no thicker than three centimeters
. - We fold the fabric with raw materials into a kind of "roll". Try to make it as tight as possible. Simultaneously moisten the fabric with a spray bottle.
- We tie the resulting "roll" with a rope so that the raw material is tightly fixed.
-
We grind the raw materials by bending and straightening our "roll"
... We continue the process for half an hour. - Leave for 2-3 hours for fermentation.
- We check the readiness with the palms: you should feel warm (about 37 ° C) - the primary fermentation is complete. We unfold the roll and put the mixture in a glass container for further fermentation, cover with a wet cloth and leave for thirty-six hours.
- In order not to miss the moment when the raw materials are ready, we recommend that you write down the time of the bookmark and the time when the tea is ready for drying.
Key recommendations
A well-ventilated area is the basis for proper grass drying. The ideal place is an attic, where air is constantly circulating, but a living room is also suitable.
The room should not be too dusty or dirty. Kitchen, bathroom and other wet rooms are not suitable for drying.
The next good spot is open air, but only in warm, dry weather, preferably in the shade. Can it dry in the sun? Drying in direct sunlight is unsuitable, the plant is prone to darkening and loss of medicinal properties.
Regardless of how to dry - without an oven or in the oven - the fireweed must be thoroughly dried as soon as possible, because with slow drying there is a risk of mold, blackening, and sometimes infection with various pests.
Can you dry without fermentation? Yes, but at the same time, the drink may subsequently have a less intense taste and aroma - this should be taken into account.
How to dry without fermentation? If you are harvesting a long enough part of the plant, it can be tied in bunches and hung. It is necessary to provide the grass with air access from all sides, while regularly wrapping the bundle.
Leaves, flowers and roots are best dried on wire racks, sieves, small paper boxes, or other surface lined with clean absorbent paper. When drying this way, always spread the plant in a thin layer.
Do not forget about frequent turning and aeration. The roots must be thoroughly cleaned before harvesting, rinsed with clean water and dried immediately with a cloth. The harvesting of roots is accelerated by cutting them into small pieces or by slitting. Flowers, leaves or other parts of plants are not washed in water before being prepared for tea by drying.
Use the oven or not? Can I tumble dry or oven dry? Yes, in the absence of favorable conditions or a place for natural drying, you can use an oven or special dryers
However, when using these and similar heat sources, it is important to control the set temperature and control the time so that the raw material does not burn out.
It is important to know what temperature to dry at - the recommended temperature varies for different parts of the plant. Usually, it is around 30-40 ° C. While you are drying Ivan tea in the oven, make sure that the temperature does not exceed this indicator.
While you are drying willow tea in the oven, make sure that the temperature does not exceed this indicator.
Some sources also mention the possibility of harvesting in a microwave oven, while other herbalists completely reject this option.
No less important is the fact how long it takes to dry the herb in the oven. On average, the time is about 1 hour - the flowers and leaves should become brittle and not sticky, but, at the same time, keep their shape and not crumble.
Is the plant prepared correctly? Whether Ivan tea is properly prepared can be determined by slight wrinkling, brittleness (it is easily rubbed between the fingers).
If the plant turns a deep brown or even black color during the process, this means that an error has occurred during the process. This may be due to steaming in an inappropriate container during collection or as a result of a long period between assembly and drying.
The problem can also be caused by moisture in the air at the workpiece or too thick a layer. This herb is unsuitable for storage and subsequent use.
A satisfactory harvesting result is a "healthy" color and aroma. Do not postpone folding for storage, as Ivan tea is able to moisturize or "acquire" insects.

It quenches thirst quickly.
How to ferment ivan tea at home
At the moment, several technologies for the preparation of medicinal raw materials from this plant have been patented. A very important point in this is the fermentation process (fermentation process) of the collected parts of the plant, which makes willow tea the most effective and gives it an exquisite aroma.
During the preparation of raw materials, you should not use metal objects in order to prevent its increased oxidation and deterioration of the taste of tea. The most popular are the following methods of making Koporye tea:
The easy way
In this method, the collected leaves are cut and put into a saucepan or bowl. They are not cut too coarsely so that they give the maximum amount of juice.
Prepared raw materials are kneaded well by hand and left at room temperature in a jar or other container for fermentation. It can last 24-36 hours.
It should be remembered that the higher the temperature in the room, the faster the fermentation process takes place. Raw materials, ready for drying, have a pleasant fruity aroma.
Fermentation by oppression
Under pressure, in which the collected raw materials are divided into 2 parts. Juice is squeezed out of one of them using a juicer. The second part of the raw material is put into an enamel pan and filled with prepared juice.
Oppression is laid on top (a wooden circle or a lid with a heavy load of 15-20 kg). In this case, the juice should not touch the cargo, so as not to spoil the taste of the final product. The raw materials are left for fermentation for 36-48 hours.
Old Russian method
With the Old Russian method, the leaves are scattered in a layer of 5 cm. The raw materials are left for 12 hours to dry. At the same time, it is periodically agitated, not allowing the top leaves to dry out.
The prepared raw materials are rolled with the palms of the hands into small sausages until the leaves darken. They are laid out on trays and covered with a damp cloth. Leave the raw material in a warm place for 6-12 hours. The fermented leaves are finely chopped.

There are 3 degrees of Ivan tea fermentation:
- lung, in which the leaves are fermented for 3-6 hours. The final product has a mild taste and delicate aroma;
- average, which lasts 10-16 hours. Such tea will have a moderately tart taste with sourness;
- deep, in which the fermentation process lasts 20-48 hours. This tea will taste tart.
