Drywall (GKL) means a sheet consisting of two layers of cardboard, between them there is a gypsum layer. The cardboard serves as a frame on which any finishing material can be applied.
Drywall is widely used in interior decoration. If earlier it was used only to smooth out the uneven surface of the walls, today it is used to create the most beautiful projects of modern interiors.
After the GKL sheets appeared in the public domain, designers and architects were given the opportunity of an endless flight of imagination regarding the interior space, especially when developing projects in the style of high-tech, contemporary, pop art.
Plasterboard is appreciated for its moisture resistance, ideally smooth surface, low weight and ease of installation. It can be easily sawn, turning into exquisite and unusual details of the interior decor or a functional component of the room. With its help, niches, recesses and shelves, arches, columns are designed. There is practically no project in which drywall is not featured.
Multilevel ceilings
Initially, drywall was widely used in the design of multi-level ceilings. The sheets made it possible to make the ceiling embossed, figured and voluminous, which gave a special flavor to the room. Recently, plasterboard has been replaced by stretch materials from ceilings. But when creating complex structures with small volumetric details, it is still indispensable.
Shelves, niches, partitions
GCR sheets are also irreplaceable when building additional partitions, which allow you to probe a large room into several locations. It is easy to integrate lighting into them, decorate with any material, make a niche or shelf of various sizes and styles in them.
Recently, multi-layer walls with shelves and compartments of various bizarre shapes have gained wide popularity, where various knick-knacks are comfortably located. They can be made of drywall and attached to the wall, or, conversely, the drywall is attached to the wall on a frame, and holes of the desired shape are made in it - future shelves.
In apartments where there is very little space and area, this material will help in creating an arch between rooms, which will give airiness to the space and make it more voluminous.
Waves, curves and other decor
A huge plus of drywall is that it can be bent, creating wavy lines with a bending radius of 1 meter.
The use of the material greatly facilitated the task of designers when creating columns, massive cornices and gazebos. In a classic interior, he helps to recreate the majestic elements of ancient times without the use of heavy, expensive materials.
Features of work
It is important to understand that drywall, even planted on an adhesive base, eats up a significant part of the space, therefore it may be inappropriate in a small apartment with a very limited space.
When creating structures from gypsum plasterboard, it is important to correctly calculate their endurance in order to avoid the collapse of the shelves under the weight of the objects standing there.
Before starting work, a drawing of the future structure is created, the required amount of materials is calculated and purchased, the frame of the structure is made, which is attached to the supporting structures. Next, with the help of self-tapping screws, neatly cut parts of the gypsum board sheet are planted on it. At home, drywall is cut using a construction knife, a hacksaw for metal or a jigsaw, and the edges are processed using a planer.
