Interior fashion also changes over time, albeit not as quickly as it seems at first glance. Fashion trends quite smoothly replace one another, reflecting both current trends in the design of furniture and architecture, and specific world events.
Of course, some of the ideas of the 2000s are still used by designers in various design solutions for living space.
Even if such an interior may not always seem like “yesterday”, some ideas from the past still need to be abandoned - they are hopelessly outdated and will look ridiculous. Today we will talk about eight of them, and also explain why they should not be used.
Stretch and false ceilings in bright colors
This technology came to our house in the 90s together with the concept of "European-style renovation". The rich color range offered by the market made such a ceiling a fashionable and expensive decorative element. But that was several decades ago, but now the orange ceiling in the kitchen or purple in the nursery looks too extravagant.
Do-it-yourself repainting of furniture, floor or decorative elements
This option for complementing the interior in some styles, such as Provence or Scandinavian, is still relevant now. But repainting, as a rule, is done in an apartment without a new renovation. Today, such experiments can only be carried out on white.
Wardrobes with fabric curtains
It is not very expensive and was fashionable at the time. By the way, the Scandinavian style offers such a solution even now. But what we see in the catalogs are expensive designs with high-quality fabrics. Therefore, when we decide to implement such an idea on a limited budget, the result can be quite disappointing.
Glass tables and tables
They were very relevant in the interiors of the 90s. But over time, they showed all their shortcomings - they easily break and scratch, the countertops are always cold, with any contact with ceramics or metal, the glass emits unpleasant sounds, and dust is very noticeable on it, so such a table requires constant maintenance. It is for these reasons that glass countertops have gradually gone out of fashion.
Bright accents on a white background
At one time they were characteristic of such styles as constructivism, avant-garde, kitsch, but together with them they also disappeared into oblivion. Today, flashy and defiant colors have changed deep shades such as malachite, marsala and other more complex ones.
Many small lamps
When it became possible to create unusual lighting from a large number of lamps, it became fashionable, of course, because everyone was tired of the classic chandeliers in the center of the ceiling. But in the case of using multi-colored lamps, excessive diversity begins to annoy us, and if the light comes from them the same, the interior is just like in a hospital. Plus, if the bulbs burn out, replacing them becomes hell.
Neon lights on the ceiling
Any new items immediately become fashionable. Because they allow you to stand out and be unique. But something new and modern isn't necessarily good, functional, or comfortable. So, the neon light on the ceiling looked very impressive and futuristic. But in fact, it turned out to be too pretentious and almost never used accessory.
The most discreet kitchen
We are used to trying to make the kitchen invisible, hide everything, remove all the jars, hide behind the cabinet, leaving only a coffee maker and a toaster on the surface. But now the design of the kitchen as an open workspace is gaining popularity. It means that all the doors are removed from the kitchen drawers, pots, ladles, knives and other appliances are put on public display. With such a kitchen scheme, a competent combination of all elements becomes very important. So, all pots, knives, jars and pepperpots should be in the same style.Excessive variegation will create a messy effect.
On the one hand, it is much cheaper to make an open kitchen, but on the other hand, it requires constant maintenance and renovation.
