Actinidia from seeds: how to grow
Actinidia is called a shrub vine, which is characterized by falling leaves. Its fruit is an oblong yellow-green or light orange berry that is sometimes edible. Liana is distinguished by its decorativeness. With its help, vertical gardening of gazebos, walls of houses, fences, verandas is successfully carried out. Its fruits, which are very rich in vitamins, are used for making compotes, marshmallows, jams, and preserves. But they can also be consumed fresh.
Actinidia lends itself well to reproduction. It can be multiplied:
- in a vegetative way, namely by cuttings, arc layering;
- seeds.
However, if in the first and second cases it will bear fruit in the third or fourth year, then actinidia from seeds can sometimes begin to bear fruit not earlier than in the seventh. Moreover, in this case, it is impossible to know in advance which seedling of which sex and with what preserved varietal characteristics will be obtained.
When the first decade of November comes, the seeds should be soaked in water, in a layer within 2 cm. A daily replacement of water with fresh water is required. Next, the seeds must be wrapped in nylon and placed in a box filled with wet sand, in which they must stay for two months at a temperature of 18 - 20 ° C. But every week they need to be taken out of there, ventilated for several minutes, rinsed and, after careful push-ups together with the capron, returned back. The seeds should not dry out.
In March it is time to bring it into a room with a temperature not higher than 10 - 12 ° C. Further, removing from the box, washing and airing the seeds is repeated again until the emergence of sprouts is outlined. Then they are sown in boxes to a depth of no more than 0.5 cm. Seedlings need spraying and protection from direct sunlight.
Mid-June is the time when seedlings are transplanted into a greenhouse with regular weeding and watering. After waiting for their flowering after 3-5 years and having determined the sex, they are transplanted to a permanent place.
