Lilac bush - growing and care
A lilac bush is a real decoration of a summer cottage. Gardeners love it for its delicate beauty and pleasant aroma, as well as for its unpretentiousness, resistance to both low and high temperatures. Currently, there are many varieties of lilacs. Shades of their colors can range from white to maroon.
In order for the flowering to be as abundant as possible, competent care and adherence to the planting rules are necessary. Lilacs are propagated by basal shoots, seeds, cuttings, and grafting. Cutting is possible not for all varieties of shrubs and does not always go well, therefore the best option is to buy ready-made seedlings. You can also detach the growth. Grafting on a wild root is considered the most successful because it brings flowering closer and increases endurance. Alkaline soils are suitable for planting; on acidic soils, the plant will be inhibited. When choosing a place, exclude the possibility of stagnant water during floods, the lilac bush loves light spaces.
Planting is carried out in the fall. Pits are pulled out to the size of the roots in a straightened state. Their bottom is covered with sand, drainage. Humus is added to the planting soil. The soil is watered abundantly, having previously formed an earthen roller around the bush.
Lilac needs regular watering, while it is necessary to water the leaves. If the soil is acidic. then dolomite flour, chalk, charcoal or eggshells are regularly added. In spring and autumn, pruning is done to shape and remove diseased branches. Drying inflorescences should be carefully trimmed. Keep the fruit buds intact.
