Raspberry ruby is good, but not hardy
Raspberry is a tasty and healthy berry, it is not difficult to grow it on your site, just like any other plant, it loves care and does not forgive poor watering and inattention.
Raspberries are a shrub that grows quickly and loses their qualities, so it is important to properly cut raspberries according to their variety. It is advisable to plant raspberries in a sunny place, it is there that they feel good and bear fruit. Raspberries should be fed regularly, they respond well to potash and nitrogen fertilizers, but do not forget about organic matter.
Raspberries are propagated in different ways: by root suckers, cuttings and layering. You need to plant raspberries either in early spring or late autumn.
Raspberry has many varieties and species, differs in pruning methods, flowering and fruiting. When choosing a raspberry for your site, you should always take into account its features, its winter hardiness, remontability, and disease resistance.
For example: raspberry ruby. This is a relatively new variety, which is distinguished by the power of its shoots, as well as a tendency to remontant, its fruits are tasty and large, with high technological qualities and transportability that appeal to our gardeners. However, the ruby raspberry is not hardy and poorly resistant to various diseases, although it bears fruit even in the presence of a disease. Therefore, nevertheless, it is worth thinking before choosing this particular variety for yourself. Of course, if there is a wealth of experience in growing any raspberry, there is an opportunity to cover every bush, there are skills in the fight against diseases, then the ruby raspberry is a good choice.
In our region, such raspberry varieties grow well as:
- "Yellow giant", distinguished by excellent winter hardiness and large, tasty, yellow berries;
- "Cardinal", which also has increased winter hardiness and large, red, slightly sour berries;
- "Mirage", a very early raspberry variety, unpretentious, well-fruiting;
- "Hercules", remontant raspberry with large, beautiful berries, resistant to wet weather.
As far as I understand, when making a choice in favor of a particular variety of raspberries, one must focus not only on the desired size of the fruit, but also on how suitable it is for growing in the climatic conditions of a particular region.
