Momordica is a representative of the pumpkin family, the plant looks like a liana and can grow, like ordinary cucumbers, anywhere - in the garden, in the greenhouse, on the windowsill. Momordica and its cultivation are becoming more and more popular due to the extreme exoticism and decorativeness of the plant. It is grown to decorate terraces, gazebos, and decorative lattices. Momordica blooms with bright yellow flowers, after ripening it gives bright orange, oblong berries. Momordica berries are edible, the pericarp tastes quite pleasant, and the berry itself resembles a pumpkin with a bitter aftertaste. The popularity of momordica and its cultivation are used not only because of the decorative qualities of the plant - momordica is a berry that has a large number of useful properties.
Momordica is grown from seeds that do not require special processing. It is not recommended to germinate seeds - with prolonged soaking, they begin to rot. Recommended only daily exposure of seeds in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
To grow momordica seedlings, you should use peat pots filled with a nutritious earthy mixture. Seeds are planted to a depth of one and a half centimeters, immediately after planting they are watered with warm water. Seeds are sown in March, the pots are kept in a warm room (+20 "), they moisturize the soil well. The plant does not like drafts and sudden temperature changes. Plant feeding should be done once every two weeks.
When the plant reaches a height of 25 cm, it should be transplanted into a larger pot. Plants should be planted in open ground during a period when stable warm weather sets in. Otherwise, a film greenhouse should be built for the plant. To obtain a good harvest, side shoots are removed. Frequent harvesting encourages more fruit to emerge.
