Garden strawberry
There is an opinion that strawberries and strawberries are different berry crops. Large berries are called strawberries, and small ones are called strawberries. However, what we call strawberries are actually garden strawberries.
All modern varieties of this berry crop originated from the crossing of Virginia and Chilean strawberries.
The taste of this juicy and aromatic berry is probably familiar to everyone. This berry is loved by both children and adults, because it can be consumed fresh, and made jams, compotes from it, and used in a variety of desserts.
Garden strawberries grow at a very fast pace. Having planted bushes with the onset of autumn, next summer it will be possible to harvest sweet berries from them.
Each bush lives for about 20 years, but over time, the quality of fruiting decreases. The most productive strawberries are in the first three years of life.
To date, there are already a lot of various varieties of garden strawberries, but breeding work is ongoing, every year enriching the market with new varieties.
But the greatest popularity belongs to remontant varieties, that is, those capable of producing a crop several times per season.
Remontant strawberry bushes are constantly blooming, new berries are being tied. Due to the constant flowering and fruiting, the plants also look quite decorative throughout the season. Therefore, strawberries can often be found in hanging pots, baskets and containers.
The most popular varieties include the following: "Zenith", "Vityaz", "Alpha", "Talka", "Holiday", "Divnaya", "Relay", "Bounty", "Troitskaya".
