Asparagus in the photo - fluffy beauty
Asparagus is perhaps one of the most frequent "guests" in florist apartments. This plant "migrated" to our apartments from the humid regions of Asia, East and South Africa and South America. Asparagus is extremely attractive in appearance - long hanging branches, dotted with small leaves-needles, will decorate any room and fit perfectly into any interior. However, the mention of leaves is not entirely correct, because many species of this plant simply lack "traditional" leaves, and what we mistakenly call them are actually tiny flattened needle-shaped branches that sit in the axils of literally microscopic leaves (asparagus on Photo).
This plant has a fairly large number of varieties that differ significantly from each other in appearance. So, the most common type of this plant is the thinnest asparagus, characterized by very long shoots that can reach more than one and a half meters in length, extremely thin and rather rarely located phylloclades (modified stems). Asparagus in the photo is a typical representative of this species.
Pinnate asparagus is also quite common, which got its name due to the special structure and placement of phylloclades: the modified stems of this type of asparagus are slightly curved, have a length of one or two centimeters and are assembled in three to ten pieces in graceful bunches, giving the entire plant an openwork appearance ... The feathery asparagus blooms with very small white flowers, from which later blackish-blue berries with two or three seeds are formed.
