Planting cedar seeds

Siberian cedar is an ornamental plant, it is winter-hardy, durable and healing. The cedar has a dense, beautiful crown. Needles and resin have a healing effect.

Cedar can be propagated vegetatively or by seed. Planting cedar with seeds should be carried out in the fall. Cedar seeds for planting are recommended to be taken from the cones of different trees, thanks to this, in the future, closely related crossbreeding can be prevented in order to obtain high-quality nuts.

Planting of cedar with seeds is carried out in open ground, the crops are covered from above with spruce branches, sawdust, peat chips. This will protect the soil from drying out, compaction after rains and watering, and from rapid overgrowth of weeds. Seed shoots give in the spring, it is advisable to cover them with some material.

If the seeds are planted in spring, then they should first be soaked in water for several days. After the seeds have germinated, they are planted. Planting is carried out in April-May. Up to 300 seeds are sown per square meter. After a while, the seedlings dive, the seedlings are dug up, sorted, then the roots are cut and transplanted to the prepared beds. After two or three years, excellent planting material with a root system is obtained.

Cedar prefers loamy or sandy loamy moist fertile soils. It is sensitive to dust and gas content in the air. Cedar care includes loosening the soil, weeding, and watering. Complex fertilizers are used for the soil.
