Garden hibiscus - Hawaiian exotic

Probably, you have seen more than once in various films and programs about the Hawaiian Islands, how the local women adorn their hair and make wreaths of beautiful pink flowers. This is hibiscus, a relative of our mallow. In open conditions, it does not grow everywhere, since it is a rather thermophilic plant. Many housewives grow one of its types at home. It is a popular Chinese rose.

Garden hibiscus or, as it is also called, the Syrian rose is a perennial shrub with brightly colored, graceful flowers. There are now about five hundred different varieties of this plant in the world, which differ in their external data and conditions of care.

Thanks to its wide range of shades, garden hibiscus can be a decoration for any garden. White and red, blue and purple flowers - for every taste and need. They can be simple, funnel-shaped, or terry. The exoticism of the inflorescences is given by a golden tube in the center of accrete stamens. It should be noted that non-double varieties are more resistant to bad weather.

The average growth of this shrub allows it to be widely used in any garden compositions. It is hardy enough to survive the winter. Blooms from July to September. Planting is best done in spring. For the winter, you can insulate the bush with straw and brushwood.

Garden hibiscus does not like drafts and feels great in sunlit and protected from the wind. It is better to choose the soil fertile, not overdried. Light pruning is recommended every two to three years. This will improve the flowering quality.
