Aichrizon: details about the view

Description of the plant

The plant is a succulent from the Tolstyankov family. Is in close family ties with popular money tree... It grows naturally in the Azores and Canary Islands, Madeira, Morocco and Portugal. At home, Aichrizon copes well with the difficult climatic conditions of persistent drought. He peeps out of cracks in the rocks, hiding in partial shade from the merciless sun.

Description of the plant:

  • The plant does not grow more than 40 cm.
  • The crown diameter is 15-30 cm.
  • Branches perfectly.
  • Aichrizon shoots end in rosettes with small leaves, covered with a white fluff of short villi.
  • Color - solid green or variegated (edges are decorated with white or cream edging).

The flower owes its second name (tree of love) to the shape of the leaves: they are very similar to hearts. If you believe the beliefs and legends, the bush affects the atmosphere in the house. Where he grows, nothing will destroy love and understanding. The root system is not very powerful, like all succulents. The underground part of the plant is located in the upper soil layer.

In summer and spring, Aichrizon releases panicles with flowers. It is covered with red or yellow fragrant stars.

This splash of colors can last up to 6 months. During this period, the bush loses up to 70% of the crown. The sight, though frightening, but quite natural. Aichrizon on the windowsill is a touch of exoticism and romance in the gray everyday life.

Popular varieties of succulent

Aichrizon species

There are many types of bushes that can be planted in an apartment. Such a variety is the result of the painstaking work of breeders of more than one generation. 5 types of culture are widespread:

  1. Aichrizon is home. It is a compact bush (30 cm in height and about the same in diameter). The dark green foliage is covered with white hairs. Flowers are yellow.
  2. Aichrizon purifying-leaved (Aeonium). A semi-shrub with branched shoots grows up to 40 cm. Rosettes are formed by small yellow-green leaves resembling plates. Instead of a fleecy edge, they are strewn with brownish-red veins that secrete a sticky substance. Throws off the leaves in winter. Blooms in April and May.
  3. Loose aichrizon (prostrate). Large succulent (height and diameter - 40 cm each). Rhomboid foliage is pubescent, collected in rosettes at the ends of long stems. Brushes of bright yellow inflorescences appear from May to autumn. After such activity, the plant rests, shedding most of the leaves.
  4. Aichrizon is meandering. The smallest flower in comparison with other species (height 15-20 cm). The diameter value is the same. Fleshy leaves, resembling a diamond in shape, are covered with a white edge. With the arrival of spring, it blooms and continues to form inflorescences for 5-6 months.
  5. Aichrizon point. Shoots are green-brown in color. Their edge is denser than on other parts of the plant. Small leaves form dense rosettes. Their feature is a torn patterned edge. The inflorescences are striking due to the rich yellow hue.

Aichrizona species favorite by flower growers are hybrid plants intended for growing at home.

Flower maintenance: comfortable conditions

 comfortable conditions

At first glance, it seems that accustomed to Spartan conditions succulents do not need special care... This is true, but for indoor aichrizons, you will have to take into account the factors that directly affect their successful development.

The condition of the bush is influenced by:

  • Air humidity
  • Temperature regime
  • Lighting
  • Irrigation quality
  • Substrate composition

The bright scorching sun is familiar to the culture. In unnatural conditions, the flower is protected from direct rays. This is especially true in spring and summer. An ideal place for an aichrizon is a window sill, oriented to the East or West. In another arrangement, the tree is hidden in the morning under a thin layer of gauze. It is recommended to regularly rotate the flower pot for a more even crown development.

In the warm season, the bush will be comfortable at a temperature of 20-250C. In winter, the plant "falls asleep" and needs a colder environment (100C). The tree is kept away from batteries.

The pubescent leaves of aichrizone will not like spraying. The villi themselves are a means of adaptation to dry air. If drops of water linger on them, the plant can fester.

Completely dried soil in a pot is a signal that it is time to water the plant. They give it to drink in small portions so as not to overmoisten the earth. Excess fluid for the succulent is a direct path to root rot and death. By pressing on the crown of a plant, you can analyze its need for watering. If the foliage is elastic, then nothing needs to be done.

The capacity should be filled with prepared succulent soil. You can independently prepare a substrate from turf, leaf, humus soil and sand. The amount of the first component is 4 parts, all the others - one at a time. Another option is sod land with a slight addition of sand, pieces of charcoal and brick chips. Under suitable environmental conditions, aichrizon will actively develop and form inflorescences.

Answers to questions about feeding, transplanting and reproduction

Reproduction, transplantation and feeding

The soil needs to be fertilized several times a month. This is done during the entire growing season, starting in April and ending at the end of September.

Use complex formulations for succulents, saturated with potassium and phosphorus. There is little nitrogen in such a top dressing, which is quite suitable for the plant.

Aichrizon is transplanted as needed. As a rule, this is done in the spring if the roots of the plant have filled the entire space of the container. In such conditions, the tree will not be good. When everything is running, the bush is transplanted at any time.

The culture is propagated in several ways. Growing with cuttings and leaves:

  1. Keep the prepared material for 1-2 hours in the dark and dry.
  2. Fill the prepared containers with a mixture of vermiculite and wet sand. You can use a special substrate for succulents. Sometimes roots also appear in a solution of ordinary water with coal powder.
  3. After rooting, plant the plants in flower beds (diameter 5-6 cm) filled with a suitable soil mixture.
  4. Withstand the bushes at a temperature of 16-180C.
  5. Water once a day.
  6. The best time to harvest leaves and cuttings is April and October.

When layering cannot be obtained, the succulent is propagated by seed. Sequencing:

  1. Prepare a substrate from cleaned sand and leafy soil (0.5: 1).
  2. Fill bowls with them.
  3. Sow the planting material.
  4. Cover the containers with thin glass or polyethylene, periodically spray and ventilate every day. With proper care, the sprouts will appear in 2 weeks.
  5. The emerging seedlings should be dived into separate boxes, maintaining a distance of 1 cm. Add 0.5 parts of sod land to the previous soil composition.
  6. Keep containers close to light.
  7. The grown aichrizones should be identified in separate flower growers.

Possible growing problems

Possible growing problems

Often, succulent diseases are caused by improper care of it. The condition of the bush directly depends on lighting, temperature, the presence of drafts and watering. Succulent is resistant to most pests.

how to care for a plant so that it does not get sick:

  • The plant signals that it is bad by exposing the stems and shedding leaves at the wrong time. Having noticed a deterioration in his condition, it is important not to hesitate to establish the cause. The fastest possible help will prevent the development of a disease that can destroy the tree.
  • With excessive watering, the rhizome begins to rot. It is worth temporarily stopping watering the plant. If the soil is too wet, it is better to transplant the flower.
  • Overdrying the soil is not an option. Aichrizon will react by dropping the leaves. You need to move the pot to a darker place or cover the sun window with a parchment protection (thick curtain). Leaves began to wrinkle - it's time to moisten the earth.
  • In winter and autumn, the tree loves to be cool. Keeping warm will lead to the same crown problems.
  • The stems will stretch ugly in low light. Shading is good for a succulent. In this case, the flower will painfully perceive the absence of constant scattered light. It can lose all its decorative appearance.
  • The wrong temperature regime in the winter will provoke the exposure of the stems. The culture is rejuvenated by rooting the tops. Sometimes the problem is solved by pinching the apical bud and trimming the central stem, which is painlessly tolerated by the plant. The result is a beautiful crown.

Aichrizon begins to bloom, having "celebrated" the second or third birthday. During this period, he can lose almost all of the leaves. Really help the plant to recover by cutting off all inflorescences and increasing watering.

If the tree has not bloomed, the flowerpot does not fit. It is worth transplanting it into a tighter container. Another reason for the problem is warm wintering.

The unhealthy appearance of the tree is a consequence of mistakes made when leaving. The unpretentious aikhrizon has firmly taken its place in the hearts of florists. This is not surprising, because the plant is not only decor element, but also a kind of guardian of family happiness.
