Buckthorn in the photo and in life - a discreet beauty

Buckthorn in the photo is a neat small tree with cascading shoots and foliage, painted in a muted dark green color. This variety has two varieties: broad-leaved, which, as the name implies, has wider and larger leaves (buckthorn in the photo is a typical representative), as well as fern-leaved with dense membranous filiform leaves with a wavy edge and a yellowish-green underside.

This plant is extremely unpretentious and adapted even to life in a metropolis, in conditions of gas pollution and lack of clean air. However, in order for the buckthorn to develop harmoniously and turn into a beautiful neat tree, it is advisable to plant it in shady places that are well protected from strong winds, as well as to provide high air humidity (this can be done by pouring it from a hose during watering or simply by installing a garden sprinkler nearby ). The deep root system gives the buckthorn the ability to grow even in very poor soils. However, under such conditions, it will grow extremely slowly. Frosts are quite dangerous for a plant (in snowless winters it can freeze over), therefore, it is advisable to cover it during cold weather.

As for caring for buckthorn, here the only essential requirement is regular abundant watering, because good soil moisture is very important for it. Due to the rapid growth of this species, it will have to be cut regularly to form a beautiful tree. Buckthorn can be propagated in almost any way: by seeds, root suckers, layering.
