Galanthus - photo, care and cultivation
Snowdrop and galanthus, photos of which can be found in abundance on the Internet, will seem to you very similar to each other. And this is not without reason: after all, it is customary to call Galanthus a snowdrop in Russia, and if you translate its Latin name, then it sounds very beautiful - a milk flower.
From the Russian name of this flower it immediately becomes clear that it was given to him because he begins to bloom even when there is a snow cover on the ground and thawed patches are just beginning to form.
Most often, snowdrops can be found in the forest, at the edge, and not in the garden. But you can still grow these primroses in your country house, so that in the very first days of spring they will already delight you with their most delicate flowers.
Galanthus, whose photo often depicts him growing in the shade of trees, prefers such growing conditions. On the site, provide the plants with a place in partial shade, but the soil can be any: snowdrops are very unpretentious in this regard.
The main conditions for the flowering of Galanthus in the spring are at least a few hours of sunshine per day and an abundance of moisture when the buds are laid. The more cold days in spring, the longer the galanthuses will bloom.
Many growers make the mistake of pruning the leaves of snowdrops after the plants have faded. You do not need to do this: the leaves of Galanthus die off by themselves, this is a natural process.
Snowdrops do not like transplanting, they can grow in the same place for years without interfering with their lives.
The decorative qualities of Galanthus are best revealed when they are planted in separate groups.
