Growing blackberries near the house
Wild berries have always been valued for their range of nutrients. For example, blackberries include fructose, glucose, sucrose, vitamin C, B vitamins, and numerous other minerals and nutrients.
Growing blackberries is quite unpretentious, especially when using conventional varieties. Selected elite varieties are distinguished by higher yields, but also the greatest care requirements.
Blackberries outperform raspberries in many respects: higher resistance to heat, absence of pests and diseases, high ability to independently provide themselves with moisture due to a more powerful root system. However, the only drawback is still there - low frost resistance. Therefore, in winter, blackberries should be covered.
When planning the cultivation of blackberries, it is necessary to choose the planting site correctly: it should be as light as possible, since a lack of light leads to an increase in the growth of shoots and a decrease in the quality of fruits; and also windless. It is better to plant blackberries in spring, so they will better start and by winter they will be able to form a strong root system.
If you have chosen a place near a fence or a room, it is better to step back 1-1.5 meters from the building. The distance between the rows should be within 1.5-2 meters, and between the seedlings it is enough to observe 1-1.2 meters.
For planting blackberries, pits or trenches are made. They are filled by 2/3 with a mixture of mineral fertilizers: rotted manure, superphosphate and potassium sulfate. Then cover the fertilizer with fertile soil and put a seedling on top. The root is covered with soil, watering in between times.
Gardeners especially appreciate such blackberry varieties as Thornfrey, Black Satin, Thornless Evergreen and raspberry and blackberry hybrids Loganberry, Silvan, Boysenberry, etc.
