The leaves of red clover are ternary, the lower ones have long roots, and the upper ones are short. The leaves are mostly elliptical or ovoid, bright green interspersed with red spots. Purple small flowers are collected in neat heads that are high in nectar. Only bumblebees with a long proboscis can enjoy the "honey pasture". Clover blooms from mid-May to September.
