How to grow elecampane tall on your site

In summer cottages, you can increasingly see such a herbaceous perennial plant as elecampane tall. It has long been classified as a medicinal plant with a wide range of medicinal properties. It grows in the form of powerful bushes, sometimes reaching a height of 200 cm and above. The plant is characterized by straight fleshy stems with sharp and oblong leaves. Its flowers, woven into baskets, have a bright yellow or orange color.

Having conceived to grow a tall elecampane at home, one must take into account his love for warmth and light. For sowing seeds, the most suitable is loose loamy or sandy loam soil, rich in nutrients. However, it must be sufficiently moisturized. This plant can grow after any vegetable crops, but better after pure steam. This is when the highest yield can be obtained. Site preparation should be carried out in the fall.

Small elecampane seeds are most often mixed with filler in a one-to-one ratio. When sowing, they are planted in light soil conditions to a depth of 2-3 cm, heavy - 1-2 cm. A distance of 60 cm should be left between the rows. The time for sowing is the second decade of May. The emergence of seedlings is possible if the air warms up not lower than 6-8 degrees, and it grows and develops best when the thermometer is 20-25 degrees. The period from sowing seeds to germination is approximately 12-16 days. After the rows are clearly marked, caring for the crops is reduced to weeding, loosening and thinning.

In the first year of life, plants grow extremely slowly. By the end of summer, their height is only 30-40 cm. By the same time, rosettes of leaves are formed, but they do not bloom until July next year.

Elecampane needs a lot of moisture, especially at the stage of bud formation and, directly, flowering. However, its superbly developed root system allows it to extract water from deep soil layers. Therefore, it practically does not require watering even in the summer heat, so it is not so difficult to grow this useful plant.
