How to remove slime from clothes, remove from hair

The slime, consisting of a viscous, stretchy and sticky material, often remains on the wallpaper, ceiling, hair and clothes of children. However, you should not throw away your favorite things, cut your hair on your bald head or resort to other drastic measures, you can wash the slime at home.

Slime

How to remove slime from clothes

It is difficult for a child to explain how and where to play with a slime. He can get carried away and stain clothes. Below I will tell you about the fastest, most effective and inexpensive ways to get rid of slime from fabric. Verified by personal experience.

Freezer

Place the item in the freezer for 4-5 hours (longer). After that, it will be much easier to scrape off the slime. Be careful with sharp objects, however, you might accidentally cut the fabric. If a trace remains after the slime, it can be wiped off with a stain remover. By the way, the freezer will also help to remove chewing gum from clothes.

Freezer and soap in the fight against slime

Boiling water

If the garment tag says hot water is allowed, soak it in boiling water until it cools. Then just wash in the usual way: in a typewriter or by hand. For the best effect, add 1 tsp. ammonia.

Laundry soap

Lather the stain with a bar until it lathers. Leave for half an hour, if it does not come out, repeat. The method is more suitable for fresh slime traces. Laundry soap will not damage the fabric, but it is unlikely to remove stubborn stains.

Salt + lemon + ammonia

Step-by-step actions:

  • Mix fruit juice with sea salt and 1 tbsp. ammonia.
  • Rub the mixture.
  • If the trail is old, leave it on for 15 minutes and repeat.
  • Rinse thoroughly.

Dishwashing liquid

Apply and do not touch for several hours. Rinse things thoroughly and inspect. If the stain remains, repeat.

Ethyl and isopropyl alcohol

Pour in liquid and wait 15 minutes. If the dirt is old, rub it with a tissue or cotton pad. Wash the item and hang it on the balcony so that there is no smell left.

Ideal for cotton and linen garments. Isopropyl is a part of many disinfectants and cosmetics, therefore it is completely safe. Use in the same way as ethyl alcohol.

Hydrogen peroxide

Soak a cotton swab in it and rub the soiled area until it is washed off. For strong stains, it will take about half an hour, for weak ones - 3-5 minutes. After processing, rinse the item and hang it out in the open air to eliminate odor.

Petrol

This method is dangerous, it can destroy any stains, but also damage the fabric. Therefore, use it only as a last resort, when other methods have not helped and you are about to throw the thing away.

To be on the safe side, apply some gasoline to the fabric in an inconspicuous area. If the color has not changed, the material is not damaged, proceed to remove the stain. After manipulation, wash the item well.

Acetone

Recommended for products with hair. For example, wool, mohair, knitted blankets, etc. Treat the hairs with a substance, after which the slime will lose its adhesive properties and detach from them.

Special means

If the methods listed earlier did not work, you can purchase special products for hard-to-remove stains in the store:

  • Dr. Beckmann for removing gum and gum;
  • Vanish;
  • Runway RW-40 is a multipurpose lubricant or "liquid key" that removes stains in a few minutes (after processing, wipe the product with a napkin).

The effects of these chemicals are unpredictable. Be sure to follow the instructions on the packaging. Check the drug on an inconspicuous area (for example, inside out).

Dry cleaning

When a thing is expensive or very beloved, it is better not to risk it, but to give it to dry cleaning. The specialist will select the most effective and safe method.

Slime removers

How to remove slime from fur

As with wool and mohair, acetone can be used. Acetone-free thinner or refined gasoline will also work.Apply the liquid to a cotton pad and treat the fur. The slime will quickly disappear.

How to remove slime from carpet and sofa

Greasy marks can remain not only on garments, but also on furniture covers, carpets, bedspreads. It is more difficult to remove such contaminants: the products are large, you cannot put them in the washing machine. However, there are still ways to self-remove stains:

  • If the slime does not have time to dry, collect its particles with the slime itself, they adhere well. Gently scrape off dry pieces, go through with a vacuum cleaner.
  • As with cleaning stained clothes, laundry soap, peroxide, a mixture of sea salt, lemon juice, ammonia will help to cope.
  • The store sells cleaning products for carpets and rugs, they can also be used on a sofa, etc.
  • Dishwashing detergent breaks down greasy stains, which means it will also eliminate traces of slime.

If none of the methods worked, I recommend dry cleaning. You don't have to take furniture or carpet somewhere, a specialist will come to your house and quickly remove all traces.

If you decide to remove contamination yourself using one of the listed methods, for greater efficiency, after cleaning, go through the steam generator.

How to remove slime from hair

When slime gets on their hair, many parents go to extreme measures and cut it off. They simply do not know about other ways to eliminate the "toffee" that will help not to ruin their hair:

  • Take olive oil, sunflower oil, or any other vegetable oil and apply to the area where the slime is stuck. When the mass softens, lather your hair with laundry soap until foam forms and remove the slime with a washcloth. Instead of vegetable oil, you can take any fatty cream (for example, baby) or petroleum jelly.
  • Cover the soiled hair with ice, after freezing the stretching mass, remove it with your hands. However, this method will take a lot of time. Especially when the slime has affected a wide area.
  • Johnson Baby's special hair oil will help you quickly get rid of the oily mass. Apply it to your head. Comb out the dirt with a fine-toothed comb and wash your hair.

How to remove slime from tights

You can scrub slime off pantyhose in much the same way as on other clothes: it consists of a thickener called guar gum. This substance is sensitive to temperature extremes. Therefore, boiling water will help to cope with traces of "toffee". Soak tights in hot water for 1-1.5 hours, wash. You can use a steam generator or hair dryer.

You can use the sensitivity to temperature changes and in the other direction, i.e. freeze tights. To do this, place them in the freezer for several hours. Remove the remnants of the slime with a blunt knife or a stiff brush, only gently.

Purchase a special stain remover from your household chemicals store. When buying, carefully study its packaging, it should be suitable for delicate fabrics. Use as directed. Most of the products need to be applied to dirt, leave for 20-30 minutes to absorb, wash.

Use dishwashing detergent. Apply it for 2 hours and wash it. If there is no effect, repeat.

Soak your pantyhose in ethyl alcohol. Wash thoroughly and hang in a ventilated place.

If the listed methods did not help, you will have to resort to more aggressive methods.

When using them, be prepared that the tights may be damaged:

  • Apply refined gasoline to the slime and to a cotton pad. Rub the stain until it disappears. Use rubber gloves for your own safety. Gasoline can be replaced with a solvent for polymer clay and glue. It is sold in a stationery store, art supplies, building materials.
  • The stain can be removed with an acetone based varnish remover. However, it will wash away some dyes, so test it on an inconspicuous area first. After these substances, an unpleasant odor remains. To eliminate it, add a small amount of vinegar to the water while rinsing.
