Additional selection criteria
As additional functions that make it easier to work with the tool, several points are highlighted:
- protection of the electric motor from overheating due to the safety clutch;
- anti-vibration system, which softens and compensates for the shaking of the device during its operation;
- the presence of a reverse (reverse rotation function);
- the ability to adjust the rotation speed of the cartridge;
- brush wear indicator in the rotary hammer motor;
- drilling depth limiter (allows you to understand to what mark the drill has reached);
- speed switching, useful when switching from one mode to another (for example, from drilling mode to chiseling mode).
How to choose a quality tool?
For the buyer, the main characteristics of the rock drill are impact force and engine power. The more powerful the engine, the heavier the rock drill. These indicators are in direct relationship.
When choosing a device for the home, it is worth deciding what kind of work it will be used for most often.
In addition to lightness, you need to choose the impact force of the puncher. It is indicated in joules and indicates to the purchaser exactly how the instrument can be used. For example, for simple work at home, an impact force in the range from 1.5 to 3 J.
Also, the selection criteria are the rotation speed of the chuck and the impact frequency. The higher their values, the better quality holes will be made.
The location of the electric motor can also affect the choice of the model of the rock drill. Instruments in which the motor is positioned horizontally are better balanced in terms of weight. Due to this, these models are more convenient to work with.
