How to store canned
Long shelf life of sea buckthorn is achieved by sterilizing the product. This is a heat treatment of fruits hermetically packed in containers, during which all microorganisms that lead to product spoilage are killed.
Heat-treated jellies, jams, preserves, marmalades and compotes in glass containers are removed in a dark room for two weeks.
This period is needed so that the fruits are saturated with sugar, and a possible marriage is revealed. Outwardly, this is manifested by the clouding of the contents, the formation of foam, the tearing off or swelling of the lids.
Product spoilage most often occurs due to improper sugar concentration, which leads to the formation of ethyl alcohol.
With the quick detection of a defect, culinary preparations can be saved, a prolonged state of fermentation radically changes the taste and quality of the products. To correct the problem, jam or jam unfit for storage is digested by adding sugar 100g / 1kg.
It is important to know the freezing point of conservation:
- compotes -5 ° С-7 ° С;
- preserves, jams, marmalades -20 ° С-30 ° С.
When the volume of the formed ice is greater than the liquid, cracking of the jar occurs.
It is important to take this into account when filling containers, do not overfill them and adhere to the recommended conservation rules.
Long shelf life of sea buckthorn is achieved by sterilizing the product, preparing compotes, jellies, jams, etc.
Basically, this criterion is important for compotes. Jams, preserves and jams can withstand low temperatures without significant quality changes.
Therefore, if the area of the house does not allow storing the product in the recommended conditions, the workpieces can be placed in a cooler room.
What kind of soil does sea buckthorn like?
Sea buckthorn is not indifferent to moisture - it is not for nothing that it prefers to grow near water bodies. She needs soil that retains moisture well. The best option is black soil, loam and sandy loam soils. These soils retain moisture longer than others.
But moisture content should not be confused with boggy - sea buckthorn does not tolerate stagnant water. It is also unacceptable to plant this plant in places with a high occurrence of groundwater - less than 1 m to the soil surface.
An experienced gardener will tell you about the six conditions that are necessary to grow sea buckthorn in the following video:
Additional tips and tricks
Experienced housewives advise you to follow a few simple recommendations:
- when preparing peppers for stuffing, a special knife is used to remove the stalk;
- seeds are easily removed with a stream of warm water;
- for preservation, keep the whole fruit or cut into large pieces;
- harvest unripe, so it is stored longer for 4-6 weeks;
- to dry vegetables, use gauze and a layer of newspaper, the substrate should absorb the juice well;
- when frozen, the harvest year is signed on a package or container in order to track the expiration date;
- fruits in boxes are not laid out very tightly to prevent rot.
If you adhere to all the rules of procurement, then there should be no errors. Best kept bell peppers in cool place. If the harvest is small, then the bottom shelf of the refrigerator is an ideal place. You can always enjoy the harvest if you make some preparations for the winter.

How to pick berries correctly
Due to the fact that sea buckthorn berries stay on the branches for a long time and do not crumble, they can be collected without haste.
We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the excellent sea buckthorn variety.
Experts recommend taking into account some tips that will help to do this work efficiently and effectively, namely:
- it is necessary to pluck the fruits in dry weather in order to avoid their rapid decay;
- it is advisable for employees to use a special apron and gloves, protecting themselves from getting juice on their clothes;
- harvesting should be from the end of the branch, heading to its base;
- work can be carried out manually, cutting off branches or berries with scissors, in the winter season (during frosts).
Hand picking
This is the classic and most common method of harvesting sea buckthorn, but it takes a lot of time and human effort. It is recommended to pick berries that have not reached full maturity with your hands, since they are still dense and do not crack when they come off the stalk. Hand-picked fruits are used in all types of processing.
Did you know? In ancient Greece, sick horses were treated with sea buckthorn leaves. As a result, the animals not only recovered, but also acquired a beautiful appearance.
Cutting straight with branches
This method greatly facilitates the work of the crop pickers. It consists in the fact that the branches are cut with berries and placed in the freezer. Frozen berries are very easy and quick to remove. However, by pruning, you can damage the tree itself, which will take a long time to recover.
Collecting during frost
Many gardeners prefer to harvest sea buckthorn after frost. The berries break off perfectly and are not damaged; they have a rich sweet taste due to the fact that the acid freezes out. To do this, spread a plastic wrap under the tree and shake the branches: the fruits crumble to the ground intact, without unnecessary debris. This method of harvesting is widely used on an industrial scale.
Also learn how to determine the sex of sea buckthorn.
Cutting berries with small scissors
This method is not much different from manual collection - a lot of time and effort is spent. Scissors up to 10-15 cm in size are mainly used: as a result, the berries remain intact, the hands do not get very tired, the process is much faster.
How to harvest
To store sea buckthorn for a long time, you should decide before harvesting what will be the way to use it.
If the fruits are intended for fresh consumption, for cooking compote or jam, they are removed in September, in the first days, when they have not yet reached full maturity. At this time, the berry contains a large amount of vitamin C. And the skin and structure are still quite dense, which will not damage the fruit during the cooking process.
To make marmalade, jam, sea buckthorn honey, the fruits do not have to be chosen whole. But they must be ripe and juicy. They will not reach this degree of maturity until November.
- Harvesting should not be done during rain. Moisture negatively affects the quality of the berries and quickly makes them unusable. For the same reason, before storing fresh sea buckthorn, it is not washed.
- You must first collect the fruits located on the upper branches, moving from top to bottom.
- To collect sea buckthorn, you should prepare several boxes in advance, and close their bottom with paper. And when the crop is harvested, it is sent to a cool place (cellar or refrigerator).
Fresh sea buckthorn can also be stored in dense polyethylene bags. In this case, the berries will remain fresh for up to 1 month. Therefore, it would be more correct to process them in such a way as to preserve the useful properties of the product as much as possible.
How to choose the right one
For blueberries to stay longer, you must:
- Harvest in sunny, warm weather, preferably in the morning when the dew melts.
- Fresh berries should be sorted out immediately, freeing them from foliage, branches and taking out the damaged and crushed ones, and also remove the stalks from the fruits.
When buying, it is important to make sure that the product does not contain nitrates and ask the seller for an expert opinion, since this forest berry absorbs radiation and other hazardous substances.
It is also important to pay attention to their appearance.The presence of white and pink fruits indicates early harvest, and the presence of a wax coating indicates improper transportation.
Making our life easier / collection aids
Almost every owner of a stubborn berry internally gives in to the prospect of standing for hours on the stairs and, scraping off his hands, wade through thickets of thorny branches. But, the gardener is an inventive creature, which is why many devices have been invented to optimize the collection of useful berries.
Unfortunately, neither our industry, nor the foreign one practically produces such inventory. However, it is quite possible to make a device for collecting sea buckthorn with your own hands.
Harvesting sea buckthorn:
- With a fork. An old, long-used collection device - a fork, resembles a lyre in shape or a carrot peeler (if we consider modern kitchen gadgets). It is simple to make a fork, the scheme is very simple - between the uppermost horns of the "lyre" (or, instead of the blades of a carrot peeler), a wire is stretched, you can use a fishing line / string).
- Comb for assembly. It also resembles a collecting scoop and looks like the front bevel of the scoop has been replaced with a fairly narrow comb. Such a device is used to collect not only sea buckthorn, but also other berries (for example, blueberries). A branch with sea buckthorn is literally "combed" by a comb, the berries fall inside the scoop. The method is not very neat, but if the berries are intended for juice, then it is quite suitable.
- With a scraper. The scraper is a device - in fact, a thick wire, the middle of which is twisted into a spring of two or three turns, and the ends are bent like a poker. It turns out a cross between tongs and hooks. By squeezing the shoot between the branches and following along the shoot, you can easily tear off the berries from the branch so that they will fall into a container or a scoop.
- With tongs. Approximately the same as the scraper, but with straight branches. Quick picking with tongs will not work, since it is necessary to remove each berry from the bush separately. The method is suitable for the most patient owners and, if necessary, to obtain an undamaged and absolutely clean harvest.
- Scissors. It is quite possible to make scissors for collection with your own hands. This video shows how this device works.
- Collection hook, loop, slingshot. These attachments are very similar to a fork, however there are slight differences. For example, the top of the loop is slightly elongated in the shape of a snake's head. Therefore, its other name is cobra. The collection method is identical for all instruments. How to make it, see the video:
- A fixture from a plastic bottle and a plastic bag. Craftsmen make an interesting device out of these things. For example, a homemade device - a fruit collector. To do this, a wide hole is cut in the upper part of the bottle (the bottle is used as a fruit picker), and the lower part is placed in a plastic bag, tightening its edges around the neck (this is actually a collector). The collected berries fall inside and then "drain" into plastic bag.
- Gloves for collecting sea buckthorn. There is an almost professional tool for collecting the intractable berry, a kind of life hack - gloves for collecting sea buckthorn. In such a mitten, each finger ends with a metal cap, and a thin wire (metallized thread) is stretched between the caps. With this wonderful invention it is very easy to pick the berry and the problem - how to cut off the sea buckthorn will not be so insoluble.
The video shows how quickly and conveniently the collector works with this equipment and how to efficiently harvest the crop with it.
There is another problem - the collected berries, as a rule, fall past the collection (especially when the berry is already falling) and cover the ground around the hapless gardener with a solid carpet. Of course, you can help with a plastic bag, but this does not always work.To prevent this from happening and to facilitate collection, you can come up with a simple and, at the same time, very intricate way out - an easy way to place the crop in a container.
It is necessary to take a simple umbrella (preferably a "cane") and hang it by the hook on the branch from which the collection is going. All sea buckthorn will fall into the dome. There will be almost no losses.
Housewives can do even more original - sew flexible wire to the hem of their summer clothes, bend it in a semicircle, sew elastic bands or ribbons at the corners and tie them around the waist or around the neck.
What is better in the end?
Of all the presented methods of collection at home, the most successful is, of course, "cobra". The tool, which has been successfully used for a long time, has a lot of admirers, the elegance of the solution and the ease of use are unmatched.
Recently, more and more adherents are finding gloves. Quick and relatively clean berry picking pleases gardeners.
Preparation for processing and storage
Before harvesting and processing the fruit, it is important to prepare the optimal storage space in advance. To do this, in the cellar or in another utility room, the walls and shelves are disinfected with a 10% solution of copper sulfate.
This suppresses the development of spores of fungi, mold and the activity of harmful insects. After processing, the room is ventilated during the day.
Ventilation of the room is of great importance. Stagnant air leads to the formation of moisture, and as a result of mold and mildew. Therefore, there should be vents in the room, in the absence of which you can use a split system.
An important condition for storing sea buckthorn in containers is the absence of exposure to light, which leads to the destruction of the vitamin composition.
Increased dampness provokes the development of rust on the metal lids of the cans. In this case, the smallest holes appear through which air with pathogenic microorganisms penetrates into the container.
They struggle with dampness in the summer, when the weather is stable, dry; during the period of autumn rains, this is difficult to do. To do this, dry the room with a brazier and apply antiseptic makeup to the wooden elements of the room.
One of the conditions for storing sea buckthorn in jars is the absence of exposure to light, which leads to the destruction of vitamins
The optimum temperature for storing sea buckthorn blanks is 0 ° C - + 15 ° C. An increase in temperature leads to complex processes in sugars and fruit cells. As a result, the useful composition and taste of the product change.
For the convenience of controlling the temperature in the room, you need to hang a thermometer on the wall. The workpieces are periodically inspected, if damaged, they must be removed from the room.
It is necessary to constantly ventilate the room. Subject to all the rules of processing and storage, canned sea buckthorn can be consumed throughout the year.
How to prepare sea buckthorn for the winter, canning for raw foodists:
Sea buckthorn fans consider it a source of longevity. The basis of this statement is the wide range of medicinal properties of the plant's fruits.
With the help of phyto-remedies from sea buckthorn, vascular diseases, hemodynamic and metabolic disorders, skin, eye diseases and disorders of vital organs are treated.
To strengthen the immune system, it is enough to introduce sea buckthorn berries into the daily diet. This will protect against viral and bacterial diseases throughout the year and will become a worthy substitute for vitamin complexes.
Storage methods and conditions
Before poisoning the gooseberry for storage, it is necessary to rinse the berry under water and dry it thoroughly. Any debris contributes to the development of decay. For long-term storage, berries with a dense skin are suitable, and with soft ones - for freezing or making puree.
When choosing a container, it must be borne in mind that after opening the gooseberry must be eaten immediately. Therefore, it is recommended to make portioned blanks. Small plastic containers or bags are suitable for this.If the latter option is chosen, then the gooseberries must be prepared for long-term storage. First you need to put the berries on a tray and stand for several hours, and then put them in the freezer. After that, the fruits can be packaged in bags.
At room temperature
Ripe gooseberries can be stored at room temperature. Under these conditions, the berries retain their original freshness for five days. To extend the storage period, it is recommended to plant unripe fruits or place the gooseberries in a cooler place. In both cases, the berry will remain fresh for ten days. In this case, the fruits must be placed in a container with a volume of up to five liters.
Freezing
This option is considered the most common, as it allows you to preserve the freshness of the berries and useful trace elements during the winter. Before freezing, the berries must be sorted out, having removed the overripe ones, rinsed and put into a container. The container can then be sent to the freezer.
Making mashed potatoes
Puree is more convenient to freeze in the refrigerator. In addition, gooseberries in this form are immediately ready to eat. To make mashed potatoes you will need:
- Take ripe fruits with a thin peel, sort out and rinse under water.
- Beat with a blender until mushy.
- Mix the resulting mass with sugar in a ratio of 1 kilogram to 350 grams.
- Stir again and leave for an hour.
After the expiration of the specified period, the mashed potatoes must be decomposed into containers and placed in the freezer.
Sugar
To store gooseberries in sugar, you will need:
- Rinse the berries and pat dry on a towel.
- Transfer the fruits to a saucepan and cover with sugar in a ratio of 1 kilogram to 400 grams.
- Stir all ingredients and arrange in containers.
It is recommended to take containers with a tight lid, which will prevent microorganisms from entering the container from the outside. After that, the container can be placed in the freezer.
In syrup
It is recommended to store overripe berries in the form of syrup. In this case, you need:
- Rinse and dry the gooseberries.
- Mix water and sugar and prepare syrup.
- Pour the syrup over the fruits previously distributed in containers.
It is necessary to fill containers to the brim. After that, the containers are sent to the freezer.
Whole berries without sugar
To preserve the whole berries, you will need to cover the tray with edible paper and put the gooseberries on top. After drying, the fruits need to be placed in the freezer for several hours. Then the berries are transferred to bags.
Drying
To dry a ripe gooseberry, you need:
- Rinse and remove the stalks from the berries.
- Soak over steam bath.
- Spread the fruits on a baking sheet.
- Place the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 30 degrees. After 10 minutes, the temperature should be raised to 70 degrees.
During the drying process, the oven must be opened periodically, and the fruits must be mixed. The procedure takes seven hours. At the end of the process, the dried gooseberries must be placed in a cloth or paper bag. In this form, the berries are suitable for consumption for two years.
In fridge
In the refrigerator, the fruit stays fresh for two weeks. In this case, it is recommended to put the gooseberry in a container, covering it with paper on top. The optimum storage temperature is +5 degrees.
Flowering and fruiting
Male (staminate) flowers bloom on male plants. On female - female (pistillate) flowers. Stamen flowers are sources of pollen necessary for fruiting. The pollen enters the female plant through the air - there will be fruits. Male bushes do not bear fruit.
Blooming sea buckthorn
The flowering of heterosexual plants must occur simultaneously, otherwise there is no point in their neighborhood. The flowering time is influenced by weather conditions and climate. In the middle lane, the culture blooms in the 2nd half of May, blooms for half a month. In Siberia, sea buckthorn blooms at the end of May.
There are no nectaries in sea buckthorn flowers. Plants have to rely mainly on the wind.If the weather is calm, gardeners have to work as pollinators. To transfer the pollen to the female flowers, they cut off the branches and fan the female plant with them.
In what year does sea buckthorn bear fruit after planting?
The first fruits on sea buckthorn are expected by the fourth year. But a full harvest is harvested only in the 6th year of life. At this age, the plant (tree or shrub) finishes forming, and directs all vitality to the harvest.
How to pick berries correctly?
When working with sea buckthorn, do not forget to use gloves and clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. No one knows how the human dermis will behave when it comes into contact with juice, you may experience allergies or irritation. It's not worth the risk. As for clothes, it will no longer work to wash them - stains will remain on them, even when washing with chemical stain removers.
Hand picking sea buckthorn
Want to pick the perfect berries? Then hand picking is what you need. It is better to remove the fruits on your own at the stage of ripeness, they are already ripe, but still firm, so that you do not suppress the harvest.
Methods to speed up manual collection:
- Removing ripe ears. They are branches with berries at the age of 1 year with dried shoots. The cobs will not grow the next year and will not be harvested. Cut them off, freeze and wrap them.
- Landmark for the first frost. Place oilcloth under the plant and shake the bush. Almost the entire crop will fall. You just have to pick and wash the berries.
- Juice collection. If for some reason you did not have time to harvest before October 15th, then you can safely get the juice. Rinse the fruit directly on the plant. Strain the juice and boil.
Can sea buckthorn be cut with branches?
Of course, you can harvest by cutting wood, but it should be kept to a minimum. Some summer residents remove those branches that they cannot reach.
For several seasons in a row such manipulation and the plant becomes like a torn tree that has no shape. The plant feels disgusting, as a result it will stop yielding and dry out altogether.
The source of such an act of the gardener is the adequate advice of summer residents - you can cut short branches without growth. They still do not play a special role in the life of the tree, they die off over time, and the cut points from them turn out to be invisible.
The destruction of entire branches greatly affects the health of the tree. The lost branches will not grow again, wounds heal for a long time. After such a procedure, the plant may not recover at all.
3 Drying
They also store sea buckthorn leaves for the winter, which are used for tea. They are harvested at the time of active flowering. It is during this period that they have the maximum amount of vitamins. Leaves are dried immediately after collection. They are pre-sorted, the spoiled ones are thrown away and laid out in the open air in the shade. When dried in the sun, many vitamins are lost. The leaves are stored in cardboard boxes, natural bags in a dark and dry place.
Sea buckthorn bark is also a valuable medicinal product. It is removed in early spring, before sap flow begins. It can be dried in an oven at a temperature of about + 70 ° C for 30 minutes. The bark is stored for up to 5 years.
Sea buckthorn fruits are more difficult to dry. Preview the berries and separate the defective ones. Then they are treated with hot (almost boiling water) soda solution (0.5%), rinsed and only after that they are dried, laying out on a baking sheet in one row. The process takes about 20 days outdoors. Drying fruits in the sun is allowed. For an artificial process, the temperature is gradually increased to + 80 ° C. Only qualitatively dried fruits can be sent for long-term storage. They are packaged in boxes or boxes, in which the bottom is preliminarily laid out with paper, and placed in a cool and dry room. The safest way to store fruit is in a closed glass jar.
The most valuable sea buckthorn product is oil.It is prepared from the separated seeds. They are crushed and poured with warmed vegetable oil. The concentration of the product is determined by the ratio of oil to pulp. Place the container in a dark place for about a week. The finished oil is stored in the refrigerator or cool.
General rules for harvesting
Most novice gardeners are interested in the question of how best to collect sea buckthorn with subsequent transportation. Ripe "ears" should be cut off whole. You will get a short branch, densely covered with berries. They are stacked on top of each other, then sorted into boxes. Sea buckthorn with branches is better stored and transported than loose fruits.
Sea buckthorn fruit can still be harvested with a blade and a small knife. There is another way how to collect sea buckthorn. Adaptations contribute to this. One of them is a tool in the form of a plastic bag, which is attached to a tin tube. She, in turn, is brought under the base of the stem of the berries, after which they roll directly into the bag.
Sea buckthorn is a dicotyledonous plant. For high productivity, specimens of two sexes are required: female and male. Plants of the female bear fruit, the male shrub acts as a pollinator. An experienced gardener can experiment by grafting female shoots on top of a male plant. Fruits on such a hybrid will grow large and sweet.
The above methods will tell you how to quickly collect sea buckthorn. It remains only to prepare it, providing yourself with incredibly tasty and healthy medicinal raw materials. The knowledge gained will help make the process of picking sun berries pleasant and loved.
Originating in the Himalayas, sea buckthorn has gained popularity around the world for its many beneficial properties. This tiny yellow-orange berry contains 12 times more vitamin C than an orange, for example. It contains protein, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, about 190 biologically active compounds to be precise.

Harvesting methods at home
They are generally subdivided into:
- dry method - easy and quick, but the resulting product should be stored for no more than a month in the refrigerator;
- wet - soaking in salt brine;
- hot - boiling followed by salting;
- smoking - hot or cold, while the lard is salted in advance.
Salting
This method is one of the easiest and fastest. Salted lard is tasty, piquant, and looks good. It is stored in the refrigerator for no longer than a month, and in the freezer for up to six months. Salting is usually used in a plastic bag.
An approximate recipe for 2 kg of lard:
- salt - 150 g;
- ground red pepper - 1 pinch;
- cloves of garlic - several pieces.
Salting technology:
- Transverse cuts are made on the bars cut with a thickness of about 4 cm.
- Wipe them with salt, pepper powder.
- Slices of garlic are inserted into the incisions.
- The blocks are tightly wrapped in a plastic bag or several layers of plastic wrap, kept in the refrigerator for 3 days.
After that, the walls of the pieces are cleaned of salt and used for food.
Smoking
Lard is smoked in hot and cold ways. They differ in temperature parameters and processing time. Hot smoking can be carried out in a special or home-made smokehouse. Lard in a few hours or even a day is cut into portions and rubbed with salt. Prepare the smokehouse, put the chips of fruit trees in it and put the prepared pieces of bacon on the wire rack. For full smoking, usually half an hour to an hour is sufficient. Then the bacon reaches the desired state in the refrigerator for 24 hours. The finished product will be covered with a brown thin crust.
Differences in cooking - pre-boiling lard in a salty solution, a lower smoking temperature, no higher than 20 ° C. Accordingly, the cooking time increases to 2-3 days. Smoked bacon is stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.In the freezer, it will not lose its taste throughout the year.
Melted
This fat is called lard.
For cooking, a product of lower quality is used than for salting and smoking:
- Pieces of 1-3 cm in size, small scraps are laid out in a container with a thick bottom and walls.
- They simmer on very low heat.
- When the fat has melted and the water has evaporated, the fat cubes will become transparent.
The melted product is filtered through several layers of gauze and cooled. In a tightly closed lid, the jar is stored in the refrigerator for at least a year.
Boiled
For cooking, you can use pieces with veins of meat. Such bacon turns out to be especially tender and soft.
How to cook:
- A kilogram of bacon is cut into large pieces, poured with a liter of water and boiled for 3 minutes.
- 4.5 tbsp is added to the water. l. salt, leave fat in the solution for half a day.
- Dry the salted pieces with a cloth, rub with a mixture of spices to taste.
- The cooked slices are wrapped in cling film, placed in the refrigerator for a day.
Conservation
Since the fat is of animal origin, a strong saline solution and heat treatment are required for its conservation to disinfect possible parasites.
Cooking steps:
- A kilogram of the product is washed and dried, cut into small pieces.
- They are mixed with 1.5 tbsp. l. coarse salt, 3 pcs. chopped bay leaf and 1 tsp. ground black pepper.
- Spread the mixture into sterilized small containers.
- They are placed in a pot filled with water so that the cans stand up to the shoulders in it, covered with boiled lids.
- Keep on low heat in boiling water for 2.5-3 hours.
- They are taken out, rolled up, cooled and stored in a refrigerator or cold cellar.
In brine
Another recipe for cooking bacon evenly salted, tasty, "tender".
How to cook:
- For the brine, boil a liter of water with a glass of coarse salt.
- Bay leaves, spices, garlic are added to the cooled solution to taste.
- 1.5 kg of lard is cut into long large pieces and immersed in brine.
- Pressed with a load, kept in the refrigerator for 3 days.
The finished product is dried with a linen cloth, once again covered with spices. Stored as ordinary salted bacon.
Sea buckthorn is a useful autumn gift. We keep vitamins to the maximum
I think that most people have heard about the medicinal properties of sea buckthorn. Our family is no exception. We not only know but have used them for many years.
Sweet, vitamin drink
A small preface
Many gardeners grow this rebellious, bright, wholesome berry in their domains. They are not stopped either by the constantly appearing shoots, or by the thorns that hurt their hands when picking berries. We were lucky - a 15-minute walk from the house, on the steep Volga bank, sea buckthorn reigns. Every year she conquers more and more territories, and I am afraid that soon there will be no room for the rest of the trees.
Wild thickets of sea buckthorn
And you know, oddly enough, but there are almost no people willing to collect it. People are lazy, or what? How can you walk past such a storehouse of vitamins and not use what nature gives you? After all, you don't even need to grow! But the birds are not lazy - they fly in huge flocks until the trees are left without a single berry.
Treat for birds
My husband and I go to pick berries every year. Two or three trips are enough to provide the whole family with vitamin raw materials.
We collect with twigs
Freezing
We cut off some of the berries for freezing from the branches with scissors, wash, dry, put in special bags. The part, when the patience to cut ends, we freeze right with the twigs.
We use the fast freeze mode for freezing. So the beneficial properties of sea buckthorn are preserved to the maximum.
Thawing sea buckthorn
I put the thawed berries in a blender or food processor and turn them into porridge. I grind the porridge through a sieve or squeeze the juice through cheesecloth. I mix the resulting raw materials 1: 1 with granulated sugar. I do not measure by weight, but by capacity.For example tablespoons (3 tablespoons of juice / gruel + 3 tablespoons of sugar). I store it in the refrigerator for no more than a week.
We use the prepared sugar jelly or puree for drinks. I just dilute with water, add to herbal teas.
Sea buckthorn jelly
The second way of harvesting is sea buckthorn jelly. Carefully cut the berries, wash, dry.
Berries
We put it in a food processor, turn it into juice with pulp and a lot of seeds, which beat very loudly against the walls of the container. We squeeze the juice through cheesecloth manually. The process requires patience and strong hands. If you get bored, you can tie everything in a knot and hang it over a saucepan - let it drip for a long time.
We measure out all the obtained juice in glasses. Pour into a large saucepan or basin. We fill in the same amount of glasses of granulated sugar. We put on fire and bring to a slightly warm state. We interfere a lot. We carry out this procedure several times. It usually takes me one day. Sand dissolves very badly!
I read many recipes where jelly is made without heating. I can't imagine how long it takes to stir in order for the sand and juice to reunite. Apparently, a very long time!
When the sand is completely dissolved, pour it into "sterile" jars and roll them up with iron lids.
Ready for storage
It can be kept at room temperature for a while, but it is better to place it in a cool place. If it is not possible to keep the jelly cool, then you can increase the amount of sugar. One and a half glasses of granulated sugar are taken for one glass of juice. Store in a dark place.
With these methods of harvesting, vitamins and minerals are stored in maximum quantities, which allows you to maintain health throughout the winter period. Due to its rich vitamin reserve, sea buckthorn is able to restore immunity in a short period.
If someone gets sick, he will certainly open a jar of sea buckthorn. After all, as you know, with viral infections, the main recommendation is to drink plenty of vitamins.
There is such a drink with a bang. Both adults and children love him.
Stuffed.
If you do not have sea buckthorn nearby or on the site, then you can plant it with seeds. For example, on the site you can buy sea buckthorn seeds and various cosmetics with its use.
For example, I was interested in the Monastic Sea Buckthorn Ointment. Here is a short description: “it is used for sunburns, burns of various degrees, redness, blisters, bruises and abrasions, insect bites, significantly accelerates the regeneration and healing process of tissues damaged by burns, relieves pain, softens and moisturizes damaged skin areas. Heals wounds, cuts, draws out pus. Suitable for children. Acts instantly and gently. "
On the banks of the Volga
Prepare vitamins for future use and be healthy! Thank you for attention!
1 Refrigerated storage
To better preserve sea buckthorn, it needs to be frozen. For blanks with sugar, only fresh berries are used, which must be processed no later than 2 hours after removal. Harvested when ripe, the fruits are carefully placed in clean baskets, after covering the bottom with paper. Alternatively, you can use plastic bags - this option keeps the berries a little longer by eliminating faster wilting. The crop is placed in a refrigerator or other cold place with a temperature from 0 to + 5 ° C.
The cold has a beneficial effect on the berries; when stored in the freezer, the sea buckthorn does not lose its qualities. Fast freezing eliminates excess moisture. Its crystals subsequently destroy the shell of the berries. The best temperature for freezing is -30 ° C.
If there is a lot of space in the chamber, then for longer storage it is filled with small containers: paper cups, glass jars or plastic bags. At the same time, the berries must be left with room to grow during freezing. There is also another way.Sea buckthorn is washed, dried, spread on a baking sheet in a layer of up to 2 centimeters and placed in a chamber for a day. After freezing, the berries are transferred to glass jars or plastic containers. With this method, the fruits resemble fresh sea buckthorn.

For freezing berry blanks, two types of containers are used:
- Plastic bags - it is advisable to purchase special freezer bags for these purposes. They are distinguished by a dense structure, therefore, they are resistant to mechanical damage. They have a lock on the side for ease of use. It is undesirable to use this container for berries with a soft texture.
- Plastic containers - choose containers that are resistant to low temperatures. The container must have a sealed lid. The containers can be easily folded on the shelf and do not take up much space.
For any type of container, it is recommended to purchase special stickers on which the date of packing should be indicated. It is convenient to use rectangular plastic containers in shape. Choose dishes with strong walls, a tight-fitting lid. It is convenient to freeze the product in portions, so you don't have to defrost the whole package.
