Medicinal properties of lacquered tinder fungus

Studies of modern and ancient fungal therapists have shown the extraordinary healing and restorative ability of the Reishi mushroom in the most advanced and difficult cases. It is not for nothing that Ganoderma is called the “sacred mushroom of longevity”; it contains a large amount of natural antioxidants that effectively slow down aging.

Organic germanium activates metabolic processes, enhances immunity, has a pronounced antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral effect. The action of this substance is similar to hemoglobin, red blood cells that transport oxygen to tissues and prevent oxygen starvation at the cellular level. Germanium has a special value as an antitumor agent, prevents the growth and spread of metastases in the body of cancer patients.

The action of triterpenoids is similar to steroid hormones. Triterpenoids have antiallergic, antitumor, analgesic and hepatoprotective effects. Polysaccharides are effective in lowering blood pressure and stabilizing blood cholesterol levels.

Reishi mushroom tea

The most popular and easiest way to consume Reishi mushroom is a decoction or tea. With its help, they fight overweight, and are used in the first hours of colds.

The recipe for miraculous tea is simple and affordable:

1 way. 2 tablespoons of dry crushed raw tinder fungus are poured with 1 liter of boiling water and insisted for 9-10 hours.

Method 2. 1 teaspoon of the powder is poured over a glass of water overnight, boiled in the morning for about 5-10 minutes and filtered.

Lacquered Ganoderma tea has a peculiar taste, you should be ready for it. Tea is drunk undiluted, on an empty stomach.

Who can be confused with?

Like many other species of tinder fungus, lingzhi grows on tree trunks and decayed stumps. But it is easy and simple to distinguish it from other species. The lacquered polypore has a long lateral leg, which other saprophytes do not have.

Novice mushroom pickers and healers can confuse Ganoderma shiny with agaric, which is called a deciduous sponge. This mushroom is also used in the fight against tumor diseases.

You can distinguish an agaric from a lingzhi by the following features:

  • rough, rough surface of the cap;
  • the flesh is spongy, elastic to the touch;
  • the surface is white, covered with brown spots;
  • grows mainly on larch trees.

They confuse the young fruiting body of the agaric and the varnished tinder fungus. An adult agaric grows up to 30 cm in diameter and 10 kg in weight.

Description of the edible mushroom

Tinder fungus sulfur-yellow is an annual mushroom that belongs to the Letipora family, of the order Polyporovye. For its nutritional qualities, it received the name Chicken Mushroom, Wood Chicken or Forest Crab, it is also popularly called the Witch's Sulfur or Kulyna.

The Latin name Laetiporus sulphureus comes from laetus - adorable, pleasant, abundant, fat; porus - time, hole; sulphureus - sulfuric, sulfurous.

A small mushroom at the beginning of development has a teardrop shape, has a delicate fleshy consistency, the color can vary from intense yellow to orange. As it grows, the fruiting body hardens, and the pseudo-caps of the fungus become like ears, consisting of several accrete fan-shaped processes growing from one base (rarely single). The edges are wavy, divided into segments with pronounced cracks, the surface is covered with a light fluff of light yellow color. The diameter of the cap is from 10 to 40 cm. Older specimens lose their color, become gray-yellow. The mass of the mushroom reaches 10 kg.

The spore-bearing layer (hymenophore) on the lower surface of the cap is tubular, with round or serrated small pores 3–5 pcs. by mm.The tubes themselves are yellow, short, 2-4 mm long; young mushrooms have a yellow liquid.

The pulp of a young mushroom is soft, tender and juicy, white on the cut.

The leg is absent, the pseudo-caps grow directly from the tree trunk, their thickness at the base is about 7 cm.

A bit of history

The mushroom was originally described in 1789 by the French botanist and mycologist Jean Baptiste François (Pierre) Bulliard, and the modern name was given in 1920 by the American scientist William Alfonso Murril.

Cooking recipes

Young fruiting bodies of sulfur-yellow tinder fungus are tasty and are used in salads, fried, stewed (roast with potatoes), for making snacks and pie fillings. You can even make cutlets from them, dry them, cook salted, marinate them.

Primary processing

For safety reasons, a heat treatment of 40045 minutes is recommended. If there is complete confidence that the mushroom is real and not false, then 20-30 minutes is enough.

  1. Peel 500 g of mushrooms, cut into large pieces and boil in salted water for 40 minutes. Drain the water, wait until it drains and the slices dry a little.
  2. Season with salt and pepper, squeeze out the juice of half a lemon, pour over with vegetable oil and stir.
  3. Place the mushrooms on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at 180 ° C for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle with finely chopped parsley before serving.

When and where does it grow?

The habitat depends on the species of tinder. So sulfur-yellow (conditionally edible) tinder fungus, prefers places with a mild climate. But the real tinder fungus is widespread throughout Russia and Europe. He loves to grow on birches and pines, and can also be found on alder, oak, beech and other trees.

On the one hand, saprophyte has a negative impact on the environment. By causing the white rot of wood tissue, it makes it fragile. It usually infects dead wood, since the main way of infecting a tree with tinder fungi is:

  • broken branches;
  • cracks and other damage in the bark.

It is recommended to collect polypores for pharmaceutical and food purposes:

  • during spring sap flow;
  • in the fall - the mushroom, preparing for winter, is stocked with useful substances.

Do not take tinder fungus:

  • growing dry;
  • growing near the ground.

Mushrooms located as high as possible are preferred. Mushrooms are cut with a well-sharpened knife or ax. If the mushroom body crumbles, it is not suitable for harvesting.

Rhodotus palmatus (Rhodotus palmatus)

Other names

  • Dendrosarcus subpalmatus;
  • Pleurotus subpalmatus;
  • Gyrophila palmata;
  • Rhodotus subpalmatus.

The palm-shaped Rhodotus is the only member of the genus Rhodotus, belonging to the Physalacriaceae family, and has a rather specific appearance. The pink or pinkish-orange cap of this fungus in mature fruiting bodies is densely speckled with a venous mesh. Because of this appearance, the described mushroom is often called a shriveled peach. The fruity aroma of the mushroom pulp contributed to the emergence of this name to some extent. The palatability of the palm-shaped rhodotus is not very good, the pulp is very bitter, elastic.

External description

The fruiting body of the palm-shaped rhodotus is hat-pectus. The mushroom cap has a diameter of 3-15 cm, a convex shape and a curved edge, very elastic, initially with a smooth surface, and in old mushrooms it is covered with a wrinkled venous mesh. Only sometimes the surface of the cap of this mushroom remains unchanged. The mesh appearing on the cap of the mushroom is slightly lighter in color than the rest of the surface, while the color of the cap between the wrinkled scars may change. The color of the surface will depend on how intense the lighting was during the development of the fruiting body of the fungus. It can be orange, salmon or pink. In young mushrooms, the fruiting body can secrete droplets of reddish liquid.

The leg of the mushroom is located in the center, more often - eccentric, has a length of 1-7 cm, and in diameter is 0.3-1.5 cm, sometimes hollow, the flesh of the leg is very hard, has a small edge on its surface, pinkish, but without a volva and a peri-cap ring ... The length of the leg will depend on how high-quality the illumination of the fruiting body was during the period of its development.

The mushroom flesh of the palm-shaped rhodotus is elastic, has a jelly-like layer located under the thin skin of the cap, a bitter taste and a barely pronounced fruity aroma, reminiscent of the smell of citrus fruits or apricots. When interacting with iron salts, the color of the pulp immediately changes, becoming dark green.

The hymenophore of the described fungus is lamellar. Elements of the hymenophore - plates, located freely, can be creeping along the stem of the fungus or notched-attached. Often they have an abdomen, greater thickness and frequency of location. Moreover, large plates of the hymenophore are often interspersed with small and thin ones.According to the color of the plate of the described fungus, they are pale-salmon-pink, some of them do not reach the edge of the cap and the base of the leg. Fungal spores are 5.5-7 * 5-7 (8) microns in size. Their surface is covered with warts, and the spores themselves are often spherical.

Season and habitat of the mushroom

Rhodotus palmatus belongs to the saprotroph category. He prefers to live mainly on stumps and trunks of deciduous trees. Occurs singly or in small groups, mainly on elm fallen trees. There is information about the growth of the described species of mushrooms on the wood of maple, American linden, horse chestnut. Griyu rhodotus palmate is widespread in many European countries, in Asia, North America, New Zealand, Africa. In mixed coniferous and deciduous forests, such mushrooms can be seen very rarely. Active fruiting of the palm-shaped rhodotus occurs from spring to late autumn.

Edibility

The palm-shaped rhodotus (Rhodotus palmatus) is inedible. In general, its nutritional properties have been little studied, but too hard pulp does not allow eating this mushroom. Actually, these properties of the pulp make the described type of mushrooms inedible.

Similar types and differences from them

The palm-shaped rhodotus has a rather specific appearance. The cap in young mushrooms of this species is pinkish, and in mature ones it is orange-pink, and on its surface, a net of thin and closely intertwined veins characteristic of this species is almost always visible. Such signs do not allow the described mushroom to be confused with any other, moreover, the pulp of the fruiting body has a clearly distinguishable fruity aroma.

Other information about the mushroom

Despite the fact that the Rhodotus palmate belongs to the number of inedible mushrooms, it has some medicinal properties. They were discovered in 2000 by a group of Spanish microbiologists. Research has confirmed that this type of fungus has good antimicrobial activity against human pathogens.

Rhodotus palmatus is included in the Red Book of several countries (Austria, Estonia, Romania, Poland, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Slovakia).

Prevention against the appearance of parasitic fungi on trees

Parasitic fungi are a real danger to any garden. However, you should not immediately resort to drastic measures and destroy the tree at the first sign of infection. There is always an opportunity to extend the life of the tree.

Of course, it is easier to prevent a disease than to fight it later. Therefore, we will first focus on preventive measures. A strong tree is less susceptible to any problems, which means that trees need to be fed, watered, looked after as expected, removing dried branches, peeling and flaky bark.

Remove old flaky bark before winter whitewashing with a wooden stick so as not to damage the trunk

Particular attention should be paid to the junction of large branches with the trunk.

Cuts, cracks, places of broken branches must be processed immediately as they appear. For this, you can use 3% copper sulfate and garden var.

The bark of trees must be protected from various damages, taking into account your climatic zone, the possibility of sudden temperature changes, severe frosts or the possibility of damage to trees by rodents.

As a preventive measure, when there are no leaves on the branches, you can spray the tree with a 5% solution of ferrous sulfate.

Features of tinder fungus

Tinder fungi represent an unsystematic and poorly studied group of fungi, which belongs to the department of basidiomycetes. About 1.5 thousand species are known. There are poisonous and edible polypores, woody and gristly. The mushroom body of all tinder is extremely resistant to any weather conditions - cold, heat, moisture.

The fungal body is formed by thin threads - hyphae, intertwined with each other. The mycelium is sunk deep into the woody body. To penetrate the bark, the hyphae secrete enzymes that dissolve the cell walls of the wood. Hyphae, at first thin and threadlike, become skeletal.

Depending on the shape of the fruiting body, tinder bears are divided into:

  • Sedentary. They are attached to the wood on one side. May have a side leg.
  • Spread out. They look like a thin cake, firmly adhered to the trunk. They resemble tree bark in color and structure.
  • With a hat and a leg.

The weight of the mushroom body is from 1 to 20 kg. Size - from 20 cm to 200 cm in diameter. They can be gray, red, black, orange, yellow - there are many shades.

Mushroom leatherette

About Muskin, or "mushroom skin", we also once. This material differs from plant variants in that it consists entirely of a fungus: it is grown in the form of a film on the surface of the nutrient medium, and then dried and processed. Unlike Piñatex, for example, mushroom leatherette is not treated with a synthetic polymer - it already has properties and appearance very similar to leather.

So far, materials based on mushrooms are under development and are not widely used in fashion collections. The stumbling block is not even the production itself, but the final dressing of the mushroom skin, as well as the scaling of its production.Nevertheless, there is reason to believe that this will change soon: the technology is simple and inexpensive in theory, the mushroom film can be grown on a wide range of substrates, and due to the activity of zooprotective movements, experimenters have reason to seriously engage in the production of an environmentally friendly and ethical alternative to skin.

In addition to skin, hard plastic-like materials are also made on the basis of mushroom mycelium. Mushroom bioplastic, such as the Cubitts optics brand, some of their frames are made from cellulose acetate, which is obtained from a wide variety of organic sources, including mycelium. This is how Cubitts wants to minimize the amount of organic waste.
