Water is a resource without which we cannot live a day. From drinking and washing to eating, from cleaning the house to caring for the garden. Saving on watering is a great way to keep your wallet "full". Of course, you need to save wisely. So that the garden and vegetable garden will not suffer from this. This is what our recommendations are for.
And again - drip irrigation system
Perhaps some are already tired of this talk about drip irrigation. But, believe me, installing it will really help you save money and not waste water! Which, in turn, will benefit both your wallet and, more importantly, the environment.
At low pressure, water drips slowly at the root level and dissipates only where it is needed. This prevents water loss through drain or evaporation and saves you money. As a bonus, drip systems also inhibit the growth of weeds and fungal diseases.
Reuse of water
Reusing gray water is the most economical way to water your lawn. This wastewater is relatively clean. Those. the one that you used when washing dishes, running a dishwasher or washing machine, bath and shower. But not the toilet!
Drought tolerant plants
A simple, but not so obvious way to save on watering is to plant plants that practically do not need it! You can say: I don’t want to grow only cacti. But, believe me, they are not the only ones experiencing drought! Firstly, there are a lot of incredibly beautiful succulents that go well with different flowers in the flower beds. But there are other equally beautiful plants that also do not need frequent watering, for example, echinacea, ornamental onions, spurge, Kalanchoe, sedum, thyme, alpine asters, and even some types of carnations.
Rainwater harvesting
By harvesting rainwater, you can water your garden without relying on a water supply. No special tanks? It's OK! You can use a paddling pool or any other large enough container to collect excess "natural" water.
Mulching
For some reason, not everyone uses mulch, but this is a real find! Not only does it help reduce the need for watering, but it also prevents nasty weeds from sprouting. Start by placing a thick layer of damp newspaper on top of the weeds, and then you can use other mulching methods like cardboard, straw, bark, and more.
