Gloriosa is magnificent: cultivation features
Gloriosa splendid is a tropical tuberous perennial from the genus Gloriosa of the Liliaceae family. It can reach a height of 3 m. Gloriosa magnificent has very bright orange and crimson flowers, reaching a diameter of 10 cm, which appear on it from June to August.
Gloriosa splendid grows and develops best in brightly sunlit locations that are sheltered from the wind. Normal plant growth is possible at temperatures not lower than 18 ° C. Watering it during the period of active growth and flowering should be abundant.
Gloriosa reproduces by tubers and seeds, which are sown at the end of winter in small pots with light leafy soil and kept at a temperature of 21 to 24 ° C. When shoots appear, the plants are brought into the light and provide them with abundant watering. Glorious gloriosa is planted in the garden in a permanent place in June, in well-drained soil. As the plant develops, it needs to be supported, because gloriosa is a vine. The plant holds on to the support with the help of tendrils at the ends of the leaves, which can only grasp a thin wire. Therefore, if there is no possibility to place a thin support, the plant stem will have to be tied up. To prevent premature growth of the vines in length, the stem must be gently bent and directed downward.
When the plant blooms and its fruit-bearing plants dry up, watering should be cut, the tubers should be dug up, dried and stored in a cool place for winter storage, where the temperature should not exceed 10 ° C. These tubers can then be used for planting next year.
I didn't quite understand, can this flower be grown in your garden, or is it more of a houseplant? We have never had such a thing, so I can't even imagine how to handle him.
