Sweet cherry - growing and care
Sweet cherry is a woody plant from the Pink family, which reaches a height of 10 meters. Cherry contains pectins, iron, malic acid, anthocyanins and carotenoids, magnesium, nickel, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, fluorine, sodium, iodine, chromium, silicon, cobalt, copper, zinc, manganese, vitamins C, carotene, PP, B1, AT 6. Cherry is useful for atherosclerosis and hypertension.
For landing, it is advisable to choose a place protected from the wind, a southwestern or southern slope. The place should be sunny and open. The soil for cherries should be loose, fertile, and absorb moisture well. Sweet cherries bear fruit better and take root on loamy and sandy soils. The close occurrence of groundwater harms cherries, as it does not tolerate stagnant water. Cherry bears fruit from 4-5 years of age.
To plant seedlings, you need to dig a hole about 80 centimeters deep. Pour three buckets of black soil at the bottom, which we mix with 10 kg of humus. Mineral fertilizers are not added, as they can lead to root burns and the death of seedlings. Seedlings are planted before the buds swell in early spring.
Each year it is necessary to prune due to the strong growth of the shoots of the sweet cherry. Pruning is carried out only in early spring before the buds swell. Sick and dry branches must be removed, and the cuts must be cleaned by treating with garden pitch. In autumn and spring, the trunks and bases of skeletal branches must be whitewashed, covered with spruce branches or other material for the winter.
For cross-pollination, several varieties of trees, as well as cherries, should be planted on the site.
