Growing hyacinths at home

Growing hyacinths at home is not a difficult process, however, it requires dedication and certain actions.

Hyacinths from the lily family, bulbous, "came" from the Mediterranean and Asia Minor. The flowers are collected on the cob on a peduncle up to thirty centimeters, have the shape of bells, and the leaves of the Hyacinths are pointed. Hyacinths are loved by flower growers because many of them delight with their flowering in the harsh winter and early spring, when few blooms, and many of us are tired of the gray everyday life.

Growing hyacinths at home

To grow hyacinths at home and in order for them to bloom at inopportune hours, it is necessary to choose bulbs of at least five centimeters in diameter, solid, dense and not susceptible to rot or other diseases, pests, without any damage.

The bulbs themselves must go through a certain stage of preparation. That is, you must be sure that the bulbs that you buy were dug out during the dug, kept for several weeks at high temperature and humidity, then kept at twenty-five degrees for a couple of weeks and then (until the time of disembarkation) were stored at a temperature no higher than seventeen degrees. Only such bulbs will have healthy flowers and long, at the right time, flowering.

In order for hyacinths to bloom in the New Year, on Christmas, the bulbs must be planted in September, but if you want live potted flowers in March, then the bulbs should be planted in October.

Place drainage on the bottom of the pot, then soil (not acidic) and then a small layer of sand, place an onion or bulbs on it, slightly pressing it into the sand, and then cover it with soil, but so that the top of the bulbs sticks out. Place the pot with the bulbs where the temperature is not higher than seven degrees and it is dark, periodically moisten the soil mixture and keep the bulbs like this for about two and a half months.

When sprouts appear two centimeters high, the pot must be transferred to a cool room (up to fifteen degrees) with light. When buds appear, place the pot in a permanent place, where there are no drafts, heat from batteries, where there is a lot of light and where the air temperature is up to twenty degrees.

Water the flowers along the edge of the pot so that water does not flow into the leaf axils, periodically feed and turn the pot, for an even flow of light.
