Growing Drummond phlox

Unlike other phlox varieties, Drummonda is an annual flower variety characterized by abundant, long-lasting and vibrant flowering. In addition, this plant has high decorative qualities.

Growing Drummond phlox is a feasible job even for novice gardeners, which can be reduced to a simple sowing of seeds and a pleasant wait for the beginning of flowering.

However, phlox of this variety is not at all suitable for cultivation within the city, since low air humidity and overheating of the soil, which are especially relevant for these conditions, are dangerous for the plant. In urban conditions, phlox of perennial varieties feel better, but hybrids and compact low-growing plants are perfect for decorating mixborders and personal garden plots.

If you are not planning large-scale production, then the cultivation of Drummond phlox can be done in several ways:

  • through seedlings. In order to get phlox seedlings in a timely manner, their seeds can be sown in March and April. The sown seeds should be lightly sprinkled with earth. As soon as the first shoots appear, and this will happen already on the 5-7th day, the flowers should be provided with moderate watering, sunlight and low temperature. After 3 weeks, the seedlings can be dived, and closer to May, transplanted to a permanent place.
  • through sowing into the ground. It is recommended to plant Drummond phlox seeds in open ground from late April to early May. In the prepared area, shallow grooves are formed and they are spilled abundantly with water. It is better to refuse sowing seeds in a continuous strip: spread them in groups of several pieces, observing a certain distance, do not forget to lightly sprinkle with earth. After 2 weeks, the first shoots will appear, which means that the time has come for their thinning, loosening and fertilization.
