Growing diastia - beauty without problems

Diastia belongs to annual plants. Its attractiveness for flower growers lies in the beauty of the flowers and the unpretentiousness of the plant in care.

It is especially easy to grow diastia in hanging pots, that is, as a pot culture.

The small height of the diastia bushes (up to 15 cm) makes it suitable for growing as a ground cover, creating curbs or planting in groups. It is especially good at decorating balconies, windows, it grows well in containers, garden pots and hanging pots.

Diastia blooms early: within 8-9 weeks after sowing the seeds and emergence, the plants are ready to bloom. Seeds are sown in the spring in a home greenhouse.

While maintaining the temperature at +19 degrees, seedlings appear within two weeks. In order for the bushes to branch well in the future, the young shoots are pinched several times during growth.

Diastia tolerates light frosts, therefore, with the onset of warm spring days, the seedlings must be taken outside for hardening, so they grow stronger.

If you sow seeds directly into open ground, flowering will begin only in August, therefore it is preferable to cultivate diastia through seedlings.

The plants will bloom in mid-July and will delight you with bright flowers with spurs until autumn. To extend the flowering period, cut the stems with faded inflorescences so that they are 5-7 cm high from the ground.

With top dressing and abundant watering, the stems regrow, and the flowering process continues.

If you want to grow diastia in hanging planters, choose nutrient-poor soils and provide your plants with abundant and regular watering.
