Mullein plant - cough relief

The mullein plant has tremendous therapeutic value in the treatment of colds, whooping cough, and coughs. This is due to the fact that the common mullein is endowed with such important properties as emollient, expectorant, anti-inflammatory and enveloping.

All the benefits of this plant are concentrated in flowers and leaves. And in order for all these medicinal qualities to be fully preserved, parts of the mullein should be properly harvested. Collecting flowers and leaves is carried out in the morning, waiting until the dew dries up under the rays of the sun. Flowers and leaves should be picked carefully, as they quickly lose their bright yellow color, and hence their unique medicinal properties.

The mullein plant contains mucus, which is especially effective for upper respiratory tract infections. Due to this property, mullein is used in official medicine. It dissolves thick phlegm, soothes irritation and thus makes it easier to cough up dry coughs.

In folk medicine, mullein-based sitz baths are prepared, which are indicated for itching in the anus and hemorrhoids. This plant is also used to treat bedwetting and diarrhea.

Royal oil is especially popular among the population, the main component of which is mullein flowers, aged in olive oil. Such oil has proved to be effective more than once for ear pains, furunculosis, inflammation in the middle ear of a chronic nature, as well as for eczema in the external auditory canal.

Mullein is very rarely used as an independent drug. Most often it is part of herbal preparations.
