Sandy immortelle flowers: cultivation features

Sandy immortelle is a perennial herb, reaching a height of 10-30 cm. It is characterized by the same woolly tomentose stem as the whole plant as a whole. The stem is often solitary, although there are exceptions. It grows out of the rhizome and can be simple, ascending, or straight. Sandy immortelle flowers can be colored lemon yellow, orange and even brick-colored. The time of its flowering falls on July-August, and the ripening of fruits, represented by tetrahedral oblong brown achenes, in August-September.

It is not so easy to grow this plant due to its increased sensitivity to factors such as lack of sun, excessive moisture, weeds, and the mechanical composition of the soil. You can take up this occupation only out of despair. It will be possible to get hold of its seeds with the help of a pack of such immortelle bought in a pharmacy, at the bottom of which there is always a little debris from inflorescences collected very late.

Its seeds are incredibly small and light, ranging from light brown to brown in color. Their germination is quickly lost: in the third year from the date of collection, it is much less than 50 percent. This causes the phenomenon of uneven seedlings.

For the successful cultivation of the sandy immortelle, it is necessary to create the following conditions for it:
  • choose the sunniest place for him, he grows well in drought;
  • make a scrupulous cleaning of the site from weeds;
  • provide him with the most loose, easily crumbling soil without lumps;
  • do not place it in humid places and prevent stagnant water, as it cannot stand it.
This is a medicinal plant with antispasmodic, antibacterial, choleretic, anti-inflammatory properties. Sandy immortelle flowers for medical purposes are collected in an incompletely blooming form, when they are just beginning to bloom and their lateral baskets have not yet had time to open. Moreover, they can be collected in one place repeatedly (up to 3-4 times), as the plant blooms.
