How to transplant a yucca

Yucca is an ornamental plant that came to us from North America. It can grow both in flower beds and in a pot in a house, garden or on a balcony. In our area, where the temperature in winter can drop to 30 degrees, it is better to grow Yucca in a pot, since it does not tolerate frost very well.

The most optimal habitat temperature for Yucca is + 20- + 25 degrees in summer, and +10 degrees in winter. If in summer the temperature crosses the border of +25 degrees, or the plant does not have enough lighting, it loses its decorative qualities. With a lack of lighting, it stretches and, the leaves become thin and sagging, their color fades. Therefore, you need to ensure that the plant has an optimal temperature and good lighting.

It is advisable to transplant Yucca in the spring, in extreme cases - in the summer in a well-drained substrate. Be sure to add expanded clay drainage or broken brick to the bottom of the pot. She prefers medium earth mixes and coarse sand.

The soil needs to be revitalized. To do this, take sod land, leafy soil and sand in 2 parts and 1 part of humus.

The transplant must necessarily take place after 2 years. This is done in a large pot as the plant is quite large. At the same time, it is advisable to preserve the earthen feeding of the roots. Therefore, it is better not to transplant the Yucca, but to move it from one pot to another. A pure transplant is done if the Yucca roots are damaged (rotted, damaged by pests, etc.). In this case, the damaged areas are removed, only healthy roots remain.
