How to get Siberian cedar seedlings?
For reproduction of Siberian cedar, seedlings of this plant are used. They can be purchased in specialized stores (however, it is worth noting that this is by no means an expensive pleasure), or you can try to grow them yourself from seeds. This method will take more time, but as a result you will get really high-quality planting material.
Saplings of Siberian cedar immediately after germination are pecked by birds, so they must be grown exclusively under plastic wrap. Siberian cedar seedlings are easiest to obtain when sowing the material in autumn: at the end of September (approximately three to four weeks before frosts begin and the soil freezes), the seeds should be sown in prepared rows. In areas where there are mice, they should be protected from rodents with spruce branches. It is very important to observe the optimal planting density: more than three hundred grams of seeds should not be applied per square meter.
A prerequisite for the successful germination of the material is its stratification. This operation involves soaking the seeds for five days in warm water, which must be changed every two days. Then the seed should be mixed with peat crumbs (you can also use river sand, which has been thoroughly washed), and kept at room temperature, from time to time moistening the substance and stirring it. You can paste the seeds after two months. As soon as they hatch, they should be taken out in the cold and stored at zero temperature until sowing.
