Purslane - growing and care

The purslane flower, which cannot be called difficult to grow, is sometimes called the "miniature rose". But, in comparison with this capricious flower, it is much easier to care for a purslane. It tolerates drought and heat well, therefore it is suitable for southern climates.

True, the large-flowered purslane loves the sun so much that on cloudy days its buds often close. If this behavior is not to your liking, then grow terry purslane. It "falls asleep" only at night, and in the morning again pleases you with its abundant flowering.

Growing purslane

To begin with, purslane is an annual plant. Therefore, it is most often propagated by seeds, although some gardeners prefer it through seedlings. Purslane seeds remain viable for 4 years.

Purslane on a flower bed looks very beautiful. Moreover, he does not need special soil fertility. It feels great on light ground. Planting purslane is carried out in an ordinary mixture of garden soil, sand and wood ash.

If you still decide to plant seedlings, then you need to do this already in April. Take a special container for seedlings, on the bottom of which pour drainage, and on top - slightly moistened soil. Since purslane seeds are very small, they only need to be lightly sprinkled with sand.

So that later you do not have to thin out the flowers, use the following advice. Dip a damp toothpick or match into the seeds, and then evenly place the seeds adhered to it over the entire surface of the soil mixture.
