Instructions for working with the device
Replacement of consumables (oil, fuel)
The engine oil in MB-1D1M10 must be changed according to the manufacturer's instructions: the first one after start-up - after 5 hours, then - at intervals of 25 hours.
Recommended oil:
Volume | Oil type | |
Crankcase | 1,3 | Automotive motor oil for carburetor engines M-53 / 10G1 or M-63 / 12G1, or any oil that meets API requirements: SF, SG, SH and SAE: 10W-30, 15W-30 |
Walk-behind tractor reducer | 1,8 | Transmission oil TAD-17I, TAP-15V and other GOST 23652-79 or other, in accordance with SAE: 80… 85W API: GL3… GL4. |
The transmission oil should be changed every 100 operating hours.
The factory manual for the walk-behind tractor prescribes the use of TAD-17I, TAP-15V and others in accordance with GOST 23652-79, it is also allowed to combine oils in any proportion.
Before starting work with the walk-behind tractor, make sure that all components are securely fastened. Do not shift from forward to reverse with the engine running! This could lead to damage. To safely shift from forward to reverse, stop the engine, shift the gear lever to the desired position, and then start the engine again.
Daily maintenance
- Remove dust, dirt, oil from the outside of the engine.
- Inspect the connection between the cylinder head and the engine cylinder block; if necessary, tighten the cylinder head mounting bolts on the cooled engine diametrically opposite crosswise through 3 bolts.
- Check the motor is secure, tighten loose connections if necessary.
- Check the tightness of the fuel hose connections from the fuel tank to the carburetor.
- Clean the protective cover (fan inlet) from foreign objects.
Technical inspection after 25 hours of operation: check the tightness of the gas hoses, add oil, and after 50 - check the tension of the V-belt transmission belts, change the transmission oil.
If the engine does not start, warm up the carburetor pipe and the carburetor itself by applying a cloth moistened with hot water on them.
Attachments
The walk-behind tractor kit on sale includes wheels increased to 50 cm, axial extensions, soil cutters and differential mechanisms. The technique is compiled with the following attachments:
- plow;
- hiller;
- seeder;
- potato digger;
- trailer;
- cart;
- snow blower;
- grass mower;
- asphalt brush;
- water pump.
As practice shows, various functional devices can be selected for the walk-behind tractor. For example, nozzles are perfectly combined with "Oka":
- PC "Rusich";
- LLC Mobil K;
- Vsevolzhsky RMZ.
Fastening of various attachments is possible thanks to the universal hitch. In this case, the operator does not need any special tools. All work can be done on your own. The bolts required for attaching the attachments are supplied as standard with the walk-behind tractor. Further adjustment of mounted systems is carried out individually, according to the device diagram, types of cultivated land, power characteristics of the engine.
For example, the plow is adjusted to the desired plowing depth. According to the rules, it is equal to the bayonet of a shovel. If the value is less, then the field will not be plowed, and weeds will quickly germinate in the garden. If the depth is made greater, then the infertile layer of the earth can be raised. This will negatively affect the nutritional value of the soil.The plowing depth is regulated by bolts that act as a hitch. They can be moved by the appropriate amount.
The upgraded technique will be well suited to the owner's own needs. For example, a popular homemade rotary lawn mower model is made from grain seeder discs, a chain and a chainsaw gearbox. Disc knives are made of strong metal. Holes are needed to attach them. The cutting tool is mounted on an axis that will provide their movement.
Which walk-behind tractor to choose "Oka" or "Ugra"
We decided on “Khoper”, now it's time to evaluate the motor-blocks “Oka” and “Ugra”, which, by the way, are produced by the same plant - “Kaluga Engine”. Immediately I would like to note the fact that the mounted implements are perfectly aggregated to both units.

Installing and replacing belts
Dimensions of belts for the "Oka" walk-behind tractor and modifications | |
Drive belt for forward travel: | A-1180 vn I GOST 1284.1-89; A-1213 I GOST 1284.2-89. |
Drive belt for reverse gear: | Z (0) 1400 I or Z (0) 1400 vn I GOST 1284.1-89. |
The belts are removed manually by loosening the adjusting bolt. Belts are replaced with similar belts, suitable in width and length. It is advisable to purchase spare parts, incl. and belts, in stores of branded spare parts for motoblocks. Such shops work directly with manufacturing plants.
Video review of replacing belts on a walk-behind tractor:
How do you know if to tighten the belt?
If you press on the belt with your hand, it should only flex slightly when pressed. If they sag, the engine will hum, possibly even the appearance of gray smoke from overheating. Worn belts recessed into belt slots must be replaced. First, remove the nuts securing the belt frame. Then, using the adjusting bolt, tighten the belts, periodically checking the degree of tension by hand.
The same manipulations are carried out after installing new belts in order to adjust them.
Device diagram and principle of operation
Now it will be useful to see how it all works. One of the most popular modifications of Oka walk-behind tractors comes with a Lifan engine. It is distinguished by its economy and at the same time high functionality. To transfer force and reduce engine speed, an MB-1 reducer is installed. This device can operate effectively for over 3500 hours. Early versions of the walk-behind tractor were equipped with gearboxes with needle bearings. Newer gearboxes are of the ball type. Changing from one type of gearbox to another is easier and safer than trying to replace the bearings themselves. Only fill the gear units with the oil prescribed by the manufacturer.
But no less important is the attachment to which the force will be transmitted through the gearbox.
The basic delivery set usually includes a milling cutter, but its role is limited to preliminary processing of the land, preparing the site for planting various plants. At the Kadvi plant, they prefer the crow's feet cutters, which can grind even a strong soil layer to a state of fine dust. Each of the 3 sections of the soil cultivator has 3 sharp steel blades. The plow is also suitable for plowing the land, but not for preparation, but for the very planting of plants. To attach plows to walk-behind tractors, towing devices are used. They are either included in the package or purchased additionally.
With the help of the so-called hiller (or otherwise a plowman) you can:
- huddle already developed plants;
- cut furrows for planting them;
- improve aeration of the earth.
Since milling and plowing even "light" soil requires considerable effort, it is recommended to use weights. They are specially designed to complement the wheels. Most often those models have to be heavier, the weight of which does not exceed 120 kg.
To perform other functions, the following are used:
- harrows;
- lugs;
- potato planters;
- tuber diggers;
- freight carts (trailers);
- adapters;
- mowers.
In order for all auxiliary equipment to work normally, drive belts are used - 1 each for forward and reverse. They interact with the corresponding pulleys. From the spare parts included in the belt drive, a clutch is formed. Working together with the gearbox, it acts as a transmission. Belts and other components are designed so that the walk-behind tractor remains stable when the speed changes, and so that the power changes smoothly.
Description
Russian-made equipment is characterized by great potential. Because of this, it is not as easy to make a choice as it might seem. "Oka MB-1D1M10" will help in the mechanization of such work as cleaning lawns, garden paths, vegetable gardens.
The walk-behind tractor is characterized by the following advantages:
- adjustable steering wheel height;
- smooth running due to V-belt transmission;
- ergonomic appearance;
- cutter protection system;
- high performance;
- low noise;
- built-in decompressor;
- the presence of a reverse gear;
- increased carrying capacity against the background of a low weight of the machine itself (up to 500 kg, with a mass of equipment of 90 kg).
The technique is a mini-tractor with which you can perform a lot of work. Experience and excessive effort are not required to operate the tractor. You can study the device, as well as the capabilities of the attachment, yourself.
Oka MB-1D1M10 from Kadvi was produced in the city of Kaluga. For the first time, the product appeared in the 80s. This technique is popular, despite the variety of modern walk-behind tractors. Due to their simplicity in operation, walk-behind tractors have won a leading position in the market. The brand's models cope with any type of soil, successfully used on plots of various sizes.
Some users note that the walk-behind tractor needs to be modified on their own so that it can work successfully on it. For example, commissioning involves not only checking the oil, but also the condition of the fasteners. In addition, it is recommended to modify the motor shaft, which is equipped with brackets with lugs. They need to be twisted or bent, otherwise they will become the main reason for the rupture of the belts on the gearbox. By the way, the manufacturer puts additional belts in the basic kit.
From the equipment, users note the quality of the cutters. They are forged, heavy, not stamped, but cast. The standard kit includes 4 products. The reducer is of good quality. The spare part is made with high quality, in the best traditions of the Soviet past. The gearbox delivers the rated power.
Sometimes users note excessive oil leaks, which is why the car smokes, it is uncomfortable to work with it. It is better to set up the equipment according to the instructions for use. It involves the use of various attachments of various modifications.
Advantages and disadvantages
The "Oka" motor-block of the "MB-1D1M10" model is distinguished by its simplicity, but at the same time it is equipped with a power take-off shaft. This shaft can be used to attach accessories of the same brand. The MB-1D2M16 model is designed to work in large areas, in vegetable gardens up to 50 acres. Regardless of the specific version, the motoblocks of the Kaluga plant can be considered a good choice for cultivating the land on a personal subsidiary farm.
The advantages of the devices are:
- minimum noise level;
- reliability of motors;
- rational choice of speed modes for specific modifications;
- relatively small size and weight;
- minimum turning radius;
- small requirements for care and maintenance.
Problems can be associated with the low wear resistance of the drive belts. However, the basic package always includes additional sets of them, so troubleshooting is quite possible. Moreover, the design is very simple, and repair does not even require contacting service organizations. And the lightness and compactness of motoblocks simplify their movement and storage.In sum, the positive qualities far outweigh their negative side.
Improvements to the Oka walk-behind tractor
Each user of a walk-behind tractor sooner or later has a question about improving the Oka walk-behind tractor and attachments with his own hands. The design of this technique allows you to modernize it and adjust it to the personal requirements of each owner. Today on the Internet you can find a lot of videos on how to increase the speed of the Oka walk-behind tractor, how to make a seeder or even a lawn mower with your own hands. For craftsmen, there is no limit to perfection, which means that a simple MB can become an all-terrain vehicle, a hay cleaner, a snowblower or a vehicle on the snow.
In fact, you will hardly be able to increase the speed of the unit. The fact is that you cannot change the characteristics of the motor, which means that all you can do is take care of it so that the speed does not decrease from improper use. In order for the MB to work for a long time, and its motor does not fail, it is necessary to lubricate its main elements more often and monitor the oil level.
But if the engine cannot be accelerated, you can improve the speed control system of the walk-behind tractor. Some craftsmen make special additional knobs to quickly switch speed modes. However, before starting the modernization, you need to understand that any intervention in the mechanism will void the warranty of the walk-behind tractor and in case of a breakdown you will have to repair it at your own expense.
Care features
Experts recommend, of course, to use only officially supplied original spare parts. To improve the operation of the device, the speed change roller can be modified. More precisely, a handle is attached to it, which makes it more convenient to work. The special bolt is then inserted into the steering gear. Most often they try to modernize the hub assembly by making differential hubs (so-called unblockers). They can be made from the front hubs of Zhiguli or Moskvich cars. Be sure to cut off and sharpen the "ears". If the bolts are very rusty, they are cut off with a grinder. But we must remember that the attachment of all elements to the axis should be as tight as possible.
Selection Tips
Of decisive importance when choosing a walk-behind tractor, as always, is its power. The fact is that it depends on her whether the apparatus will be able to plow the virgin soil, or whether it is only able to work on the already ennobled land. Of course, the structure of the soil also plays a role. To solve a wide range of tasks, experts recommend models with power take-off shafts
Important: if the main job is milling the ground, you need to choose a lighter machine
For light and medium motoblocks, chain reducers are recommended. Worm gear options are used much less often, and only on the lightest machines. As for motors, one of the best products is from Lifan. These are first-class products that are much more perfect than Russian products, and are no worse adapted to local conditions. Japanese engines are of the highest quality, but they are the most expensive.
Reducer
Owners of Oka walk-behind tractors, like any other equipment, sometimes encounter malfunctions. Including in the operation of the gearbox.
Next, we will consider the most common difficulties, their probable causes and solutions to the problem:
- oil flows on the output shaft: it is possible that the axle shaft seal is worn out (replacing the cuff will help);
- the gearbox is jammed (one of the reasons is an open circuit; it needs to be changed);
- it is not possible to switch gears (you should disassemble the gearbox and replace the broken parts);
- the mechanism for separating the semi-axles has been disrupted (adjustment of the tension of the control cable for the semi-axles will help).
The figure below shows a cutaway diagram of a walk-behind tractor gearbox
