Types of sanding bases
The grinding disc is selected depending on the material. There are several main types:
- Sandpaper. Such material has a wide range of hardness and grain size. The coarser the abrasive, the coarser the surface will be. There are also closed and open paper. The first option is used for metal processing, and the second for wood. In the open version, the distance between the chips is greater, this allows wood shavings and sawdust to not accumulate on the plane.
- Soft materials. As already mentioned, it can be foam rubber, felt, twisted rope surface, leather. Accessories with this material allow you to perform delicate polishing work.
- Grinding stone. Another type of abrasive coating that allows you to remove more complex defects from the plane. This device can handle metal, concrete.
The variety of attachment materials and the very variety of devices allow the drill to be used for grinding and polishing various materials, up to the use in jewelry.
Grinding machines
- Tape machine for grinding a bar. The machine performs grinding with an abrasive belt that constantly rotates on two rollers. The rotation speed depends on the power of the device. The machine has a high performance and copes well with large volumes of smooth surface grinding. Great for roughing and removing old paint.
- Round log eccentric sander. The machine can work on both flat and curved surfaces. It is equipped with a round sole on which the abrasive is attached with Velcro. It is used for fine sanding and polishing of wood.
- The vibrating machine for polishing a log house has a rectangular base. The machine can work on a flat surface, it is also convenient to handle the corners of a log house with it. Differs in high quality grinding.
How to use auto polishing wheels correctly?
Things to do before polishing your car:
- clean the body surface from dirt;
- seal the scratches with masking tape;
- avoid hitting the car with sunlight;
- there must be good ventilation in the polishing room;
- create lighting to see all defects.
Operating procedure:
- Apply no more than 20 grams of paste to the polishing disc. In this case, the area of the treated surface should be no more than 40 cm2.
- We set the minimum speed on the grinder and polish the surface. We perform the movements "cross": first horizontally, then vertically.
- Remove the remaining polish with a dry cloth.
- Set the circle for fine finishing.
- Apply the gloss polish to a dry cloth and wipe the body surface.
- We polish the working surface at medium speed.
- Apply a protective polish using a grinder. This is where you need a circle for easy processing.
Other Grinding Accessories
Another tool used for sanding wood is the dremel. This is a mini universal device. With its help, you can perform a wide variety of woodwork with high precision: grinding, polishing, engraving, milling, drilling. It is used extremely rarely for grinding large parts, but if you need to apply a drawing or engraving on a wooden surface, then in this work it has no equal.
When grinding wood with a grinder or a drill, traces of grinding discs in the form of lines, grooves, and indentations often remain on the surface.Very often this happens due to inept handling of the tool and when working at high speeds. It is quite difficult to get rid of these marks; you have to grind the surface by hand again.
For manual grinding, you can use a simple device that our ancestors used to grind - a grinding bar. It can be made from a rectangular wooden plank. The board must be wrapped in sandpaper and fixed with nails or screws.
During grinding, a lot of dust is generated, which not only settles on the surface, but also enters the respiratory system. A mask for polishing the log house, which is made from a special fabric that does not allow dust particles, will help to protect the nose and mouth from dust.
4 Grinding drums - reliable drill adapters
In order not to risk damaging the surface when sanding with a pad with a drill and not to spend money on an expensive adapter with a variable shank inclination, polishing drums are used. It is a cylindrical shank design. A tape of sandpaper is attached to the cylinder, the ends of which are glued or free. The sanding material is not positioned vertically, but parallel to the rotation.
Various types of tensioners are used to tightly connect the sandpaper to the drum. For tape with glued ends, a method of increasing the cylinder diameter is used, and for tape with free ends, a special mechanism. For endless abrasive belts, two tensioning methods are used. The pneumatic drums are pumped up and the individual rubber elements are compressed axially. Open tapes are attached in different ways. The most common way is to tighten the ends with a rotating screw.
For work with an emery tape with glued ends, it is possible to make a drum yourself. It consists of several wooden discs, between which thick rubber gaskets are placed. Everything is fastened with a screw. The sanding paper is pulled over the drum and the nut is tightened on the screw. It compresses the discs with rubber between them, which, moving apart, securely fixes the sandpaper.
Materials for car body processing
To carry out the car processing procedure, the following materials are needed:
- foam rubber;
- sandpaper;
- grinding composition;
- bike;
- polish.
The agent with which the surface of the body will be processed must be carefully selected. A paste with abrasive particles is needed to remove the top layer of varnish. It must be selected depending on the type of cracks and chips present on the body. A product with a large number of particles is necessary if the defects are very noticeable. Now on sale a large assortment of drugs that add brightness to the color.
The protective coating of a new car may acquire cloudy streaks. In such a situation, a reducing paste containing a grinding additive will suffice.
A variety of tools allow you to solve any problem. For a vertical surface, it is convenient to use a thick paste. Any part of the machine can be processed with it. A component is often added to it, which increase the brightness of the color.
Liquid polish is suitable for horizontal surfaces such as roofs or bonnets. The main advantage of such a product is that it cannot damage the enamel.
It is convenient to use aerosols. They are economical and effective. However, the can does not contain very much of the product.
