How to care for squishies?
To make the squishy last a long time, use our tips.
Can I wash squishies?
If we are talking about a store squishy made of special memory foam, then you can wash such toys under running water. Wet the squishy well, then apply shampoo to the surface and lather it up. After the procedure, rinse the accessory thoroughly and dry it in the fresh air.
If you want to wash a homemade toy, be careful, some details, such as paper, may not withstand such washing.
What to do if the squishy is torn
If the toy is torn, you can give things a second life. For example, make a new smaller figure out of a torn squishy, a phone stand or a pin cushion. You can use a toy that has become completely unusable as a makeup sponge by cutting off the paint from the surface.
How to soften squishies
Over time, squishy can harden due to excess moisture or lack of air, for example, if it has been in a box for a long time. There are several ways to soften it. We will tell you about the three most popular ones.
- Preheat in the microwave. Place the squishies on a plate and microwave for 10 seconds. Microwave radiation will soften the toy a little.
- Lubricate with nourishing cream. Apply a greasy hand cream to the squishy and wait for 5 minutes.
- Moisten the squishy with water. The method is considered the simplest and most effective.
How to clean sticky squishies?
It happens that immediately after buying a toy, the squishy sticks to your hands. You can remove such a nuisance with starch or baby talcum powder. Just apply the substance to the surface with a brush.
You have learned about the most popular squishy making methods. Now it is enough to arm yourself with the necessary material and tools, and get to work. Whichever method you choose, the result will pleasantly surprise you, and a new unique stress relieving toy will appear in your collection.
Examples of interesting works
Hamburger
To make a 3D squish, the components of the burger are drawn and prepared:
- two buns;
- cheese;
- salad;
- tomatoes;
- cutlet.
Having painted the components, they are glued according to the above scheme, filled with a padding polyester or a sponge and glued. The component parts are connected in order and get a 3D antistress toy.
Ice cream
Ice cream in a waffle cup is drawn on a white sheet of paper. You can "revive" squish by drawing eyes, a nose and a smiling mouth, and decorate with asterisks. After the drawing is completed, it is pasted over with tape, folded and the same is done with the second blank side of the sheet. A pattern is cut out of two layers, the edges are glued and a small hole is left.Finely chop the sponge, stuff with ice cream pieces and seal the hole.
Fragrant chocolate
You can make 3D squish even easier. Having bought chocolate in the store, carefully remove the packaging from it. Cut a parallelepiped out of a sponge in the shape of a bar, drip a little chocolate-flavored aromatic oil on it and pack in a wrapper. The hole is sealed with tape
It is important to make a small puncture in the squish with a needle so that it can contract and return to its original position. When pressed, the aroma of chocolate will be felt
Such 3D squishes are recommended to be done with children, and then to use a toy to relieve tension and stress.

Squishy made of paper
Necessary materials:
- sheets of paper;
- scissors;
- filler;
- Scotch;
- pencils / markers.
Paper squishy filler options:
- plastic bags of different density;
- foam balls;
- cotton wool;
- foam rubber;
- synthetic winterizer.
Manufacturing instruction:
- We choose how the squishy will look (for example, an ice cream cone, fries, a cloud, etc.) and draw the outline of the figure on paper. If you can't draw, we find the image on the Internet and print it on a sheet of paper. We paint with colored markers or pencils.
- Carefully glue the image over with tape so that there are no unnecessary folds, and the adhesive tape does not overlap. We glue another sheet, only without a picture, in the same way.
- We put one piece of paper under the other and cut it out along the contour of the image (the sheets should be the non-glued side inward). Gently connect the two leaves along the contour with thin strips of scotch tape and leave a small hole for the filler.
- Fill the squish with the selected filler (if it is a bag, then it must be carefully folded or cut into small pieces). It remains only to glue both sides of the antistress toy to the end.
What is squishy?
Squishy is a pleasant to the touch anti-stress toy, which, after any manipulations, takes its original shape. On sale you can find a variety of variations of these "mnushki". They can be in the form of food, animals, cartoon characters, etc. Squishies also have a characteristic sweetish smell, which, together with the relaxing tactile sensations that appear when the toy is crumpled, brings a feeling of euphoria, helping to relieve emotional stress.
It is worth noting that such toys are needed not only for adults to relax, but also for children to develop fine motor skills of the fingers. If you do not trust the manufacturer and are afraid to give a purchased squishy to your child, then do the anti-stress yourself, and let the little one learn the world through pleasant tactile sensations. Well, below, our magazine will tell you how and from what material you can create squishes with your own hands.
What is squishy?
In the wake of the popularity of anti-stress toys, it is becoming increasingly difficult to understand their varieties and features. But squishy - what it is, why the toy got such a name, it becomes clear as soon as you take anti-stress in your hands. In English, "to squish" means to squish. Indeed, the original purchased toy emits characteristic squelching sounds. However, the technology of how squishies are made on an industrial scale has expanded significantly today. Therefore, a huge variety of toys appeared in their characteristics.
Among the key anti-stress properties of squishy, in addition to squishing, it should be noted:
- tactility of the outer layer - depending on the outer coating, antistress can be smooth, rough and even fluffy;
- sensations at the moment of squeezing - modern anti-stress not only squelch, but also crunch, squeak, emit other sounds due to various shell fillers;
- form stability - even after active play, squish returns to its original appearance.
Modern stationery and materials for creativity make it easy to make squishies with your own hands, completely recreating the required properties. Before starting work, you should think carefully about the properties of the toy, as well as its design, in order to choose the right materials.
Note! The appearance of the squish can be absolutely anything. Especially popular are anti-stress in the form of mini fruits or animals (cats, dogs)
However, if you create squishes with your own hands at home, then its appearance is limited only by your imagination.
It is recommended to start the selection of materials for squishy with the choice of filler. It will depend on the inner filling what kind of shell to cover the anti-stress. The filler itself is chosen depending on the properties that you want to give to the toy. For loud do-it-yourself squishies that crunch and squeak well, the most affordable filler is a regular dishwashing sponge. If you squeeze such a sponge dry, it creaks and crunches interestingly.
Other squish fillers can also be:
- Silicone is soft and homogeneous to the touch, it can squish a little, it wrinkles very nicely. At home, if you are interested in how to make squishies with this texture, then try experimenting with liquid soap and thickeners, glue, airy clay, or even gelatinous mixtures.
- Foam balls - they creak and crunch interestingly, have a crumbly texture, and therefore require a dense shell. Instead of purchased balls, you can use buckwheat, peas, rice or other cereals.
- Sintepon is a very soft material that quickly returns to its previous shape, creates a soft rustling noise that soothes. This filler can be replaced with cotton wool or soft foam.
The main task of the casing is to protect the filler from mechanical damage. But if you use improvised materials, then such a shell will undoubtedly add positive qualities to the squish. Such antistresses are obtained not only very durable, but also rustling, thanks to the material of the shell. You can learn how to make homemade skishi using scotch tape, bags and textbook covers at various workshops.
The most common shell material for homemade squishy remains a balloon. Even a preschooler will guess how to make a squishy with it - just pour the filler into the ball. Latex is a very durable material, but it does not add any properties to the toy (such as squelching, crackling). Therefore, balloons are most often used by beginners.
Light plasticine squishies
A very pleasant activity will be sculpting a squishy from a soft material called "light plasticine". It is sold in individual plastic bags, each piece has a bright and cheerful shade. The material is airy and resembles marshmallow to the touch.
After the formation of the product, the mass solidifies by itself. Finished toys are able to maintain their original shape, and return to their original state after being pressed.
To make a pyramid of three cat heads, you will need:
- 3 pieces of light plasticine of different colors, in the proposed example pink, yellow and green shades are involved;
- black and blue markers for painting blanks;
- a crimson marker for ears, cheeks and tongues;
- corrector for the pupils.
Sequencing:
- Roll even balls from each piece of plasticine with your palms.
- Flatten the blanks with your fingers, and sculpt triangular ears on top of the form.
- Form a pyramid of three blanks, for example, in the following sequence: a pink figure at the top, a yellow figure in the middle and a green figure at the bottom.
- Press the figures tightly together.
- Let the workpiece dry a little.
- Draw big eyes, mustaches and smiles with black marker.
- You can paint over the pupils with a blue marker.
- Use the corrector to mark the glare on the pupils
- With a pink felt-tip pen, paint a blush on the cheeks and paint over the middle of the ears.
- To completely solidify the mass, leave the toy to dry for 6 hours.
How to make a paper squishy?
When starting crafts, stock up on scissors, paper, pencil, tape or glue. In addition to these materials, you will need a crushed filler. If you take foam rubber or synthetic winterizer, cut it into small pieces. Prepare and tools for decoration: pencils, felt-tip pens, paints, glitter.
Simple paper squishy
Work on a toy begins with a search for paper squishy drawings. Find a picture that your child enjoys to play with
Pay attention to the presence of small details. Their abundance will complicate the manufacturing process and worsen the functionality of the product.
What is better to choose:
- cartoon character;
- favorite fairytale character;
- emoticon;
- cat;
- donut or cake, etc.
Color the picture. Now work on the back side: it should mirror the front. To facilitate the process, fold a sheet of A4 paper in half, draw an outline on one side. When you cut the drawing, it will be mirrored on the other side of the sheet.
Print or draw an image, then get started:
- Cut out the pictures along the outline. Make sure both pieces are the same size. If the paper is protruding from one side, trim the edges.
- Cover the toy frame with wide tape. The wider the adhesive tape, the neater the product looks. Be careful: there should be no non-glued areas on the paper. Avoid air bubbles under the tape; they make the anti-stress less attractive.
- Glue the 2 parts of the toy using thin tape. If there is none, use a wide one, cutting it lengthwise into 2 or 3 strips. Thick strips of duct tape on the sides cut into the skin.
- Do not glue the toy completely. Leave a small hole on the side to place the filler inside.
- Stuff the product with finely chopped foam rubber, padding polyester or cotton wool. Spread it over the entire area of the toy with a stick or brush.
- Cover the remaining hole with a narrow strip of tape.
There is a little secret that allows you to adjust the rate of return of the product form after compression. If you like it when squish recovers quickly, tape it tightly. Leave 1-2 small holes to let the air out to let the toy straighten slowly.
Volumetric squishy made of paper
A simple squishy is easy to make. But in appearance, it differs from the anti-stress products sold in the store. They are voluminous and resemble real soft toys. Making 3D squishies is easier than it sounds. It will need the same components as for simple products.
Let's consider how to make squishies out of paper and scotch tape, step by step:
- Since the toy looks voluminous, a detailed diagram of the product will be required. It should show the gluing points and sides. Draw the reamer yourself or download the drawing from the Internet.
- Use crayons or paints to color the base for the craft.
- Cut out the reamer including the gluing points.
- From above, glue the workpiece with wide adhesive tape from the outside. Make sure that there are no unsticked areas and air bubbles under the tape.
- Bend the gluing joints and connect them with tape, glue or stapler. Leave a hole for the filler.
- Place foam rubber, cotton wool or synthetic winterizer inside.
- Cover the hole.
Check how well the toy recovers when compressed. If this is slow, check to see if there is a hole left for air to escape.

The history of squishy in Russia is still short. However, in reality, this is far from a new trend. An active interest in crushers has appeared since August 2016. It was then that Mark and Matthew McLahan began to raise funds through crowdfunding to create small toys, the purpose of which was to relieve everyday stress. Their idea was supported by many, and the project raised almost $ 6.5 million. But back in 2014, a video appeared on the Web, which told about stores selling small, tactilely pleasant toys.
