Frequent mistakes
Even when using a proven recipe, slime deteriorates if the rules for its manufacture have not been followed. For a toy to be usable, you must:
- Add air freshener only after stirring all other ingredients into a homogeneous mass.
- Continue kneading the slime after it begins to lag behind the sides of the container. Often during manufacture, kneading is stopped immediately after loss of stickiness. If you do this, the slime will "petrify", and in the future it will be impossible to restore its plasticity.
- Stick to the recipe. You cannot add ingredients other than the approved ingredients to the recipe. Self-replacement or addition of components causes a different course of reactions in the mixture. This can lead to the slime not cooking properly, becoming too hard, or sticking too much to your hands.
Air freshener handgum is a plastic and pleasantly smelling mixture that you can knead your hands about. You can find the ingredients for it at home, and making a slime will not take more than an hour.
Of soap and sugar
The soda solution required in the recipe is made from 100 ml of warm water and 3 tsp. food additive. Liquid soap should be thick enough, viscous. Stir the toothpaste and sugar until the mass becomes paler. A color change will indicate that it is ready to add the following components.
What you need for slime
- 1 tsp toothpaste,
- 5 tsp granulated sugar
- 3 doses of liquid soap,
- 30 ml of stationery glue,
- 0.5 tsp sodium tetraborate,
- 1 tsp soda solution.
How to make at home
- The toothpaste must be squeezed into a work container.
- Stir it slightly so that the mass does not lie in a dense piece.
- Then 1 tsp. add sugar to the pasta.
- After each addition, the base must be mixed well with a stick.
- When the mass becomes thicker, liquid soap is added to it.
- Then there is glue.
- After that, you need to mix the composition again.
- Next, add sodium tetraborate.
- The mass is stirred with a stick until stable.
- It remains to pour a soda solution into it.
- Stir with a stick until the base thickens more strongly.
- Until fully ready, knead it in your hands for a few minutes.
From toothpaste and sugar
The mixture of sugar and pasta should be placed in the microwave 3 times for 30 seconds. After each heating, the dishes are removed, and the thickened mass is stirred with a spoon. If you immediately leave the base for the entire specified time, it will burn out.
Making slime at home
- The paste must be squeezed into a work container.
- Sugar is evenly poured onto its surface.
- Then the components must be mixed until the grains dissolve.
- The resulting mixture should be kept in the microwave for 1.5 minutes.
- After removing from the oven, the mass is allowed to cool slightly.
- Then it is collected from a plate with a spoon and kneaded with your fingers until tender.
DIY sugar and toothpaste slime recipe:
Of water and sugar
The recipe uses a thick shampoo, but the main ingredient is sugar. You may need it a little more than the specified amount
It is important that the mass sent to the refrigerator is very white and fluffy. This will mean that the base is prepared correctly.
At the end, you need to knead with your hands not the whole mass as a whole, but in parts.
How to do it yourself
- The first ingredient is shampoo, you need to pour it into a cup.
- Further into the composition is liquid soap.
- Both components must be mixed.
- They are supplemented with water at room temperature.
- Shake the liquid with a spoon again.
- Then you need to pour all the sugar into it.
- The mass should be kneaded until the grains dissolve and increase in volume.
- Put it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.
- After removing the base from the cold, add soda to it.
- First, mix in the last component with a spoon.
- Then a thick, but spreading mass is taken in hands and kneaded until it ceases to stick to them.
How to make sugar and water slime at home:
From a mask-film and water
You can take any water for this method of making a toy, even from the tap, but it should not be hot. While mixing the mask in the liquid, try to crush the air bubbles so that the slime turns out to be transparent.
Slime preparation method
Add sodium tetraborate to water placed in a deep bowl.
Stir the components until the thickener dissolves.
Squeeze the main ingredient into the center of the liquid.
Stir the mask in the water gently by hand.
Remove the thickened mass from the liquid and place in another dish for 5-10 minutes without closing.
Why does the slime not thicken, and how to make it thicken?
Further, it is analyzed what to do if the slime does not thicken for a long time, and it is said why this happens:
- Add more thickener if there is not enough in the composition.
- Buy new glue as this is probably out of date. Therefore, if the activator did not help, perhaps the reason is the glue.
- Add more glue and thickener if the mixture is very thin.
- Remove the composition for half an hour in the refrigerator. It should be kept away from food.
- Stir the mixture a few more times.
Without a thickener, it is impossible to prepare any slime, therefore, in one form or another, it is added to the composition of the toy. Any available means, including starch, sugar and gelatin, are suitable as an activator.
The thickener is gradually combined with the main components (until thickened), as a result of which the slime takes shape, volume and elasticity. But, the main thing in this matter is not to overdo it with the activator, since the slime will lose its viscosity and will quickly become unusable.

What to do if it sticks to your hands
Sometimes it happens that an already finished toy turns out to be of a liquid consistency, does not stretch well and sticks to the hands. Do not rush to throw out the slime and make it in a new way. This problem can be solved in several ways.
The first method is to add a solution of water and baking soda to the slime. To do this, you need to mix two to three tablespoons of boiled warm water and half a teaspoon of baking soda. This solution must be added to a container with a slime and mix thoroughly. However, it is worth remembering that due to the use of soda, the slime will turn out to be harder and not so stringy.
For the second method, we need powdered starch. Simply add a small amount of starch to the slime bowl and stir until thick. Then we take our toy in hand and knead it. As a result, it will acquire the density and ductility we need, it will not stick to surfaces.
And finally, the third way is to add boric acid or sodium tetraborate to the lizun. This method is suitable if you end up with a liquid and sticky mass instead of a plastic thick toy. The main thing here is not to overdo it and add the ingredient in exactly the required amount. Therefore, add it to the mixture drop by drop, stirring thoroughly until the mass becomes thick. You can combine this method with the addition of starch, thus adjusting the consistency density.
What is slime?
The word "slime" means a funny slime toy. It is something shapeless, viscous, with the properties of a non-Newtonian fluid. That is, the slime is liquid in appearance, resembles mucus, but at the same time it easily collects, does not spread too much during the game and can, on the contrary, thicken or break. If left alone, it will slowly spread.You can also wrinkle it in your hands.
Slime has unusual properties
From English the word "Slime" is translated as "slime". And this is exactly what the very first such toys were called, which were released back in 1976. They were released by Mattel, and the toys immediately became popular with the kids. Gradually, other brands began to produce slimes, and the name became a household name.
The first slimes appeared back in 1976
Those very first slimes were only green, packed in small plastic jars. In Russia, the name "slime" was used more often than "slime": this feature is associated with a popular cartoon character, a ghost named Slime, which had a green color.

Instructions for making at home
There is a recipe that allows you to get flavors of different tastes. The basis for the creation of the substance is sweet candies. The flavor of the sweets determines the flavor. Ingredients that will be needed to create a fragrance:
- hot water;
- lollipops.
Cooking steps:
- To begin with, water is put in for heating. It is desirable for the liquid to boil.
- Pour the desired amount of water into a glass bowl.
- Lollipops without wrappers are also sent there.
- The sweets are left in water until dissolved. This usually takes 1 to 2 hours.
- After a predetermined period of time, the product is ready.
- The liquid is poured into a jar and sent to storage.
In the process of creating a fragrance, certain points are adhered to. Why is hot water taken? The fact is that candies will dissolve faster in liquids with a high temperature, and as a result, the time for preparing the aromatic substance will be reduced. The shade of the slime depends on the color of the candies. The liquid can be colored in any color depending on the appearance of the candy.
To create a flavoring lollipops are taken with the most intense smell. They should be so fragrant that when the wrapper is unfolded, the smell is heard immediately. In this case, the flavor added to the slime after cooking will last as long as possible.
No sugar glue
Instead of powdered sugar, ordinary granulated sugar can be used with this manufacturing method. But then kneading at the 3rd stage will take longer. You can make the powder yourself from sugar by passing it through a coffee grinder.
The activator is prepared from 2 tsp. sodium tetraborate and 250 ml of warm water. But you can use another thickener that works with glue, such as baking soda and Naphthyzin or a lens solution.
Cooking method
- A small amount of shampoo must be sent to the dishes.
- The next step is to add powdered sugar to it.
- The components must be mixed so that the total mass becomes white and viscous.
- Then add a film mask.
- Stir the ingredients again until fluffy.
- The base should be thickened with sodium tetraborate.
- It is stirred with a spatula until a soft curd is formed instead of the liquid.
- It remains to wrinkle the slime a little in your hands.
What is this component in a slime for?
The main feature of a slime made with the addition of an air freshener is its smell. Fresheners come in different flavors, so there is no need to use additional flavors to make the toy smell good. The aerosol acts as a thickener when attached to the adhesive.
The toy can be made with your own hands at home from the ingredients at hand. It will turn out to be soft, plastic and airy. There are many simple recipes for making original fluffy.
It is better to make a toy in a medical mask so as not to breathe in vapors! The service life of one slime should not be more than a week!
Parents need to ensure that the child does not take the toy in his mouth, as its constituent components can be harmful to the body.
Tips & Tricks
Even when creating such a toy, safety precautions are observed. This is due to the fact that the composition contains household chemicals. Some tricks will help "revive" the slime:
- Loss of structure and sticking to hands. Over time, the slime loses its consistency. A couple of drops of tetraborate will solve the problem.
- The slime is divided into parts. In this case, the mixture must be hardened. The ideal option is to use glycerin. You can take it not in pure form, soap with its content will come in handy.
- Resizing. A pinch of salt will preserve the volume of the slime and it will not decrease. It is added to the mass together with water. After that, the toy is kneaded with hands. It is useful to repeat the procedure every 4 days, as this will preserve its properties.
You can return the toy to its original shape at home. Better yet, maintain the consistency so that it doesn't change and you don't have to constantly add different ingredients. Slimes are not stored at high temperatures. For the time when the toy is not in use, place it in a tightly closed box in the freezer. The cold does not destroy the structure, in contrast to high temperature indicators.

Slime recipes and instructions
To make slime you will need:
- capacity (it is better not to use dishes from which food is consumed);
- wooden sticks for mixing the components.
Before making an air freshener slime, make sure your child is not allergic to the components of the spray. Be sure to use a medical mask while making slime with air freshener.
Classic with glue
Recipe for PVA slime and air freshener:
- Pour 5-7 tbsp into the container. l. glue.
- Add dye if desired and mix everything thoroughly.
- Slowly add air freshener and stir the mixture until it begins to separate from the sides of the container. The air freshener does not have to be sprayed, it can simply be poured in.
- As soon as the mass becomes gelatinous, take it in your hands and knead it diligently.
- If the slime sticks to your hands, add some baking soda to it. Slime is ready.
Soda slime
Many beginners ask themselves the question: "How to make a slime from an air freshener without glue?" Based on feedback from experienced manufacturers, you can make this slime from a different base, but you will have to add additional thickeners.
For such a recipe you will need:
- 20-25 grams of baking soda;
- 50 ml of Fairy dishwashing liquid;
- dye;
- lens remover (can be replaced with boric acid or sodium tetraborate);
- air freshener.
At the initial stage, combine the soap with baking soda and mix until smooth. Then add the dye and a couple of tablespoons of air freshener. At the end, add the main thickener, most often using a liquid for removing lenses (you can buy at any pharmacy). Mix quickly with lens solution until desired consistency is achieved.
With toothpaste
Another recipe for slime tested by many with toothpaste and air freshener:
- Squeeze 1-1.5 tbsp into a container. l. toothpaste.
- Dilute the paste with 1-1.5 tbsp. l. water and mix the components together.
- Add dye.
- Pour in about 6-8 tbsp. l. PVA glue and stir.
- For a better thickening of the ingredients, add 2 tbsp. l. freshener.
- First, knead with a spoon, and then simply in your hands.
If the mass is not thick enough, add more glue, and if the slime continues to stick to your hands, put a pinch of soda.
Two ways using shampoo
If you still have a jar of shampoo you don't like, you can make a slime with it. To do this, as usual, you need to combine PVA glue with a dye, and then add 2-3 tbsp. tablespoons of shampoo. Thanks to this component, the toy will become airier and more pleasant to the touch. After the shampoo is mixed with the mass, you can add air freshener in small portions. Crumple the toy until fully cooked, and then use glitter and bead additives in the slime as desired.
If you do not have glue, you can use regular potato starch (2-3 tablespoons) as a basis. Add a little water, dye and 2-3 tablespoons of shampoo there. Stir the ingredients quickly until smooth
It is very important that there are not even the smallest lumps, because then the slime will not work. At the end, add 3-6 tablespoons of air freshener and stir until the mass begins to peel off the walls of the container.
We use chemicals
If you want to make the best slime, you have to use chemicals. They are the best thickeners over baking soda, lens fluid, and air fresheners. However, their disadvantage is the presence of chemical components.
Basic Slime Chemicals:
- glycerol;
- sodium tetraborate;
- boric acid.
Such chemical additives do not carry excessive danger to the body, however, they are best used for slimes of children over 7 years old. These chemicals are used as thickeners, most often PVA glue is the base. Such slimes are the most fluffy and high quality.
No glue from the film mask
Air slime can be made from improvised means, without special ingredients that are sold only at the pharmacy. What components are required:
- mask film, which includes polyvinyl alcohol;
- shower mousse or gel;
- baking soda;
- toothpaste;
- air freshener;
- liquid soap.
Step-by-step recipe for fluffy:
- You need to take a bottle of 0.5 liters in volume. Pour a little gel and a little water into it. Shake the bottle well to form a strong mixture. Pour into a deep bowl.
- Squeeze out toothpaste with liquid soap in equal proportions into another bottle. Also shake and add to a cup to shampoo.
- Now put the mask-film to the composition and make a homogeneous mass.
- Pour in half a teaspoon of baking soda, mix.
- The air freshener is added gradually to prevent the mixture from becoming too hard. According to the recipe, if there is no freshener, it can be replaced with a similar thickener.
- When the mixture stretches and stops sticking to your hands, the product is ready.
Many of the ingredients in fluffy are interchangeable. Therefore, if you want to make it according to a specific recipe, but some of the components are missing, you can take an analogue instead. The main thing is to adjust the proportions so that the mixture is not solid.
From air freshener and shampoo
This recipe requires room temperature water and a thick shampoo. You can take less glue than indicated. But its volume must exceed the amount of water and shampoo, otherwise the mass will not stabilize.
What to make slime from
- 1 tsp shampoo,
- 50 ml of stationery glue,
- 1 tbsp. l. water,
- 1-2 pinches of powdered food coloring
- 3-4 tbsp. l. air freshener.
Cooking method
- Water is sent first to the cookware.
- Shampoo follows.
- Dye is added to the third.
- The ingredients are mixed in such a way that the color of the future slime appears, and bubbles appear on the surface of the liquid.
- The next component is transparent glue.
- After adding it, the mass is stirred again.
- It's time to thicken the slime by injecting the Air Wick.
- Stir the liquid intensively and for a long time with a spoon.
- When the glue curls up, knead with your hands, adding an activator.
What types are there, what are they called and what do they look like?
Thickeners or activators are different (salt, soap, etc.), but each of them helps to achieve the desired effect - volume, elasticity and firmness.
Soap products: what activators are there?
Under "soap" means not only soap, but also a gel for washing or dishwashing liquid, since all these products, when mixed with water and other components, are easily washed out. Using, for example, dishwashing liquid ("Fairy", etc.) allows you to do without sodium tetraborate.
What can be used in this capacity from sprays?
The spray is usually a high hold hairspray or air freshener.
This gives the toy the necessary density and volume.But in order for the mass to immediately acquire the desired density, the spray is mixed with PVA glue of any brand, spraying the second agent gradually (in small portions) until the toy thickens. After each addition of a component, the future slime must be thoroughly mixed.
Hairspray and air freshener are not recommended to be used together - just one thing.
What salt components to add?
To give slime a thick consistency, table salt and salt-containing agents are often used (solution for cleaning contact lenses, boric acid, Vizin eye drops, etc.). Initially, the selected components are mixed, and then a saline agent is added dropwise to the mass.
Important. Boric acid is preliminarily diluted with water in a proportion of 10 g of dry matter per 125 ml of liquid
Tips & Tricks
- To protect your hands and clothing from paint, gloves and an apron should be used while making the slime.
- You cannot store the slime in the freezer, as it will lose all its properties.
- Slime will stretch better if you drop a little vinegar into the cooking mixture.
- Dried slime can be revitalized by adding a couple of drops of water to it.
- The toy will turn out to be more beautiful if you use several types of dyes at once. You can also add sparkles.
- After playing with the slime, you need to wash your hands with soap and water, since the slime contains many different chemical elements.
- To make the slime stop being slippery, glycerin is added to it.
- Not all brands of PVA glue are suitable for making slimes. The most suitable are: Office, Elmer's, "Luch", Joiner "Moment".
- It is forbidden to reuse the food container in which the toy was prepared.
- The shelf life of an air freshener slime is about a week. Do not keep it outdoors for a long time, otherwise it will melt.
It is interesting not only to play with slime, but also to do it yourself. Due to the availability and low cost of ingredients, it has become easy to do this at home. There are many different ways to make slime. Experiment and try each one. And with proper care and following the advice, the slime will serve you longer than usual.
