Basic ways
It is possible to restore the softness, elasticity and viscosity of the gel-like mass in several ways.
Heat exposure
Sometimes, in order to restore a favorite toy, it is enough to warm up the mass.
Change of structure
As a result of exposure to high temperatures, the slime will soften the mass. The structure becomes viscous and elastic again. All activities must be carried out under the supervision of adults.
With boiling water
It will be possible to dilute the anti-stress in an easy and proven way:
- 145 ml of boiling water is poured into the container;
- immerse the composition in hot water and leave for 8 minutes, covered with a lid;
- then they take it in their hands and begin to actively knead, without waiting for the mass to cool down.
This recipe is suitable for restoring a composition that has not completely dried out.
In the microwave
A simple way to thicken the mass can be applied to both purchased and homemade slime:
- the toy is placed in a container;
- pour in 6 ml of boiling water;
- put the container in the microwave for 36 seconds;
- after that, the lump needs to be kneaded well.
Without using heat
It will be possible to correct the situation with the spoiled toy without affecting the mass of heat. In this case, additional components are used.
Boric acid
Boric acid will help to thin the frozen mass of the toy. The solution can be purchased at any pharmacy.
- 47 ml of boiling water is poured into a deep container;
- squeeze out a small pea of toothpaste;
- the components are mixed until a mass with bubbles is formed;
- immerse the slime in the finished solution and begin to mix;
- first, the mass sticks to the walls, gradually, during stirring, it turns into an elastic lump;
- add 14 ml of boric acid and continue stirring.
Shower gel
If the antistress has lost its elasticity, stopped stretching and began to dry out, shower gel will help:
- 98 ml of boiling water is poured into a bowl;
- pour in 9 ml of shower gel with a thick consistency;
- the components are mixed well;
- the slime is immersed in a solution and begin to knead with your hands until the mass becomes soft;
- then the toy is placed on a towel to glass excess liquid;
- 4 ml of boric acid is injected so that the slime does not stick to the skin of the hands.
Dilution with lotion
For a slime to stretch well, it must be elastic. If the composition has hardened, body lotion will help. In addition, the lotion helps to enlarge the toy to its original size. It is enough to pour 9 ml of the product onto the surface of the slime and knead the mass. After a couple of minutes, the structure of the toy will be restored.
Adding body cream
A body cream with a more liquid consistency will help to revive a slime made by yourself at home. 18 ml of the product is squeezed into the container, 6 ml of water is poured in and the lump is immersed in the solution. After 4 minutes, the lump is picked up and kneaded. Beforehand, hands are also lubricated with cream.
Using varnish remover
If the slime is dry, does not stretch and breaks, you should try nail polish remover. 2.5 ml of the solution is poured onto the surface of the slime, after which the mass is thoroughly kneaded. Then add a small amount of shaving foam and knead it again with your fingers.
How to save with shaving foam
Shaving foam will help to save a homemade toy. Several zips are made on a sticky lump. Then knead thoroughly with your fingers for three minutes. The toy will not only become soft, but will increase in volume. If the mass is too sticky to the skin, you need to add a small amount of boric acid.
Toothpaste and "Panthenol"
An effective recipe using toothpaste is:
- 2 g of toothpaste is squeezed onto the surface of the slime;
- gently knead the slime;
- then take the "Panthenol" agent in the form of a spray and make two zips per lump, continue kneading;
- after 9 minutes, the slime will acquire the desired shape and structure.
Antibacterial gel
Another proven and effective method to soften slime is to use an antibacterial gel. Put a lump of slime in a bowl, add a couple of drops of antibacterial gel and stir thoroughly with a spoon. Then the slime is taken in hands and actively kneaded until it becomes elastic.
Vegetable oil
Any type of refined vegetable oil is suitable, for example, flaxseed, sunflower, olive. A few drops of oil are enough to change the composition of the slime.
PVA glue
This component is ideal for restoring a homemade slime. With PVA glue, it will be possible to dilute the purchased toy. Do not overdo it with the component, otherwise the composition will stick to your hands.
The toy is placed in a tight plastic bag, a small amount of PVA glue is added. Then the bag is tied and the contents are mixed until smooth.
What to add to the toy to fix the situation?
Too liquid slime must be thickened. To do this, you need to perform some actions or add certain components to the composition.
Glue
Liquid mucus can be thickened with glue. You need to add it little by little, constantly stirring the mass. Stationery, silicate, construction glue is suitable, but PVA is more often used. After the slime has thickened, you need to wrinkle it with your hands for a few more minutes so that it becomes elastic and stretches easily.
Cooling
Slime can acquire the necessary consistency if you let it "ripen".
- To do this, it should be placed in a plastic container or glass jar and tightly closed with a lid.
- Put the container with the slime in the refrigerator for about one hour.
- After cooling, the mass must be carefully wrinkled with your hands.
Mixing
Sometimes intensive stirring helps to thicken the finished toy, since its constituent components are distributed more evenly in the mass, and an immediate chemical reaction occurs. You need to knead the slime until it stops sticking to your hands.
Sodium tetraborate and other thickeners
If the slime is liquid like water, you can add a solution of sodium tetraborate to it. 1-2 drops are enough for the mass to thicken. If this does not happen, then you should also introduce a couple of drops of the drug. The composition must be constantly mixed so that the thickener is distributed and absorbed evenly.
An overabundance of sodium tetraborate should not be allowed, since the mass will harden strongly and it will no longer be possible to fix it.
Instead of sodium tetraborate, contact lens fluid or eye drops can be used to thicken mucus. They also need to be introduced into the composition gradually and dosed. Just one tablespoon of the product is enough for the mass to thicken well, become viscous and plastic.
Gelatin
You can thicken the liquid mass with gelatin:
- The component must first be soaked in a small amount of cold water.
- When the gelatin swells, it must be placed on the stove and heated until it is completely dissolved. The composition must be constantly stirred so that it does not burn and thickens evenly.
- After cooling, gelatin should be added to the toy and the resulting mass should be mixed well.
Air freshener
If you have an air freshener or hairspray at home, they can be used as a thickener for liquid slime. The spray should be sprayed onto the mucus in small portions, and then thoroughly knead the mass with your hands.
Fairy
You can even thicken the toy with the Fairy dishwashing liquid:
- You need to take one tablespoon of it, add a little cold clean water and foam well.
- The resulting mass should be gradually incorporated into the toy.
- Then mix the mucus thoroughly and place it in a cool place for 40 minutes.
The finished slime will not stick to your fingers, it stretches well and does not tear.
Instead of dishwashing detergent, you can use a gel for washing clothes, for example "Persil":
- It also needs to be foamed and added to the mucus.
- After the introduction of the product, the mass should be kneaded well with your hands until it ceases to be sticky.
Rules for caring for a purchased slime at home, depending on the type
So that the purchased slime does not lose its volume and elasticity, it must be properly looked after. Care rules differ depending on the type of slime.
Ninja
This type of slime has a transparent plastic packaging through which you can see its contents. The package also has a black tube for inflating the slime.
- The problem with ninja slimes is that they quickly lose elasticity: to fix this, add 2-3 drops of toothpaste to the slime every few days and stir with a spoon until smooth. After this procedure, the toy will stretch much better than before.
- It is necessary to regularly clean the slime from dirt.
- Store the toy in an airtight, tightly closed container.
Before buying a Hinja slime, make sure you are buying an original toy and not a cheap copy that will rip and crumble.
Butter
The name of the toy is translated from English as oil. The slime got this name due to its delicate texture, which resembles melted butter in consistency. A distinctive feature of this type of slime is smearing on any smooth surface.
- To prevent the butter slime from drying out, store it in any tightly closed container.
- If the slime begins to tear and stretch poorly, add a couple of drops of skin oil to it.
- Do not use tetraborate or glue to add volume or get rid of stickiness - these ingredients will give the butter slime strong elasticity and will not smudge.
Transparent slime
Transparent slimes outwardly look like colorless chewing gum or liquid glass. Compared to classic slimes, they are softer and more stringy, but they hold their shape worse.
- If you play with the transparent slime for too long, bubbles will start to appear inside. To avoid this, play with the slime for no more than 40 minutes, and then immediately put it in a special container.
- If you want the slime to become more transparent, put it in a resealable container and do not touch it for 2-3 days.
- If your slime is too slippery and won't stick to the surface, add a little glue or flour and then mix thoroughly.
Why does slime stick to your hands
There are several reasons for the stickiness of the slime:
- Low quality. If the toy was initially cheap, it could be improperly made or it has expired. In the first case, it is worth trying to correct the situation, but there is no guarantee that it will work out. It is better to throw out the expired slime.
- Violation of the proportions of the components in the manufacture of homemade slime. If it sticks, this may mean an excess of water in the composition, an insufficient amount of activator. The problem is caused by the use of a large volume of toothpaste. Sticky slime can also be due to non-working or expired glue.
- Invalid recipe. There are a lot of them on the network, unscrupulous slimers advise using obviously non-working thickeners or other components. If you make a toy yourself, you need to not only make sure that the method is correct, but also adhere to the recommendations for the amount of ingredients.
- Slime lay for a long time without being used. This leads to the release of a mass of liquid to the surface even when kept under ideal conditions. Therefore, from time to time it is necessary to play the slime, to knead it.
- Violation of the storage conditions for slime. It is harmed by air temperatures below 5 and above 20 degrees, as well as humidity over 65%. Spread from heat or frozen slime will then have to be restored. And you also cannot be completely sure that it will work out.
- Improper feeding.More often this is an excessive use of salt - more than 1 time per day. But the addition of excess water, glue can lead to a change in the texture of the toy. And if you feed the slime with sugar, juice and other unnecessary ingredients, it will definitely begin to stick.
- Expiration date. Homemade toys remain elastic, pleasant to the touch and smooth for up to 3 months. Purchased in the store - no longer than 6-12 months. If the time is up, it is pointless to reanimate them, it is better to purchase or make a new slime.

And here is more about how to soften slime at home.
Why the slime does not thicken, and how to make it thicken
There is a whole list of reasons why a slime may not thicken very well. Typically, the cause of the problem is:
Insufficient amount of thickener
It is important to add all the ingredients according to the recipe. If the mixture still does not begin to thicken, you can add a small percentage of the activator and stir the composition.
Expired glue base
Glue, which has been open for a long period, loses the properties necessary to create a slime. It is best to use sealed tubes of glue to prepare the toy. Otherwise, the product will stick to your hands or will not thicken at all. It is also important to consider that not every glue is suitable for making anti-stress. Some even sheets of paper cannot be glued.
An overabundance of water, which can often be one of the main ingredients. A large amount of liquid will often cause the product to become excessively watery.
Slime glue should be of good quality
Often, slimers, devoid of experience, are interested in how to fix the situation if the slime turned out to be very liquid. To deal with this problem, it will be enough:
Use the glue base by mixing it with a little water.
Place the product in the refrigerator for 40 minutes to ripen
In this case, it is important to cover the container with a lid.
Stir the composition vigorously for 5 minutes. You can take the slime in your hands and knead it quickly.
Additionally add an activator.
Advice! Do not greatly exceed the recommended dosage in the recipe so that the toy does not harden.
Useful Tips
To prevent your slime from spoiling for a long time and retaining its properties, check out the tips below:
Any slime must be stored in an airtight, resealable package. Purchased slimes are already sold in such jars; if your slime is homemade, soy sauce, cream or balm packs are suitable for storage.
The temperature at the storage place should not be lower than +2 degrees and not higher than +4. This range is maintained in the refrigerator, so the slime can be stored there.
Do not leave the toy in the heat - it will quickly sour.
Do not store the slime in the freezer - it will freeze and lose its shape.
Wash your hands before playing with the slime, and after playing, do not put it in dirty or dusty places. If small debris gets into the slime, you can only get it with tweezers.
Do not play with the slime too often - it can dry out due to moisture loss.
To prevent mold from growing in the slime, play with it at least once every three days.
Periodically add a thickener to the toy to soften it: tetraborate or eye drops work well. Then knead the slime in your hands for about five minutes. This advice does not apply to butter slimes, and it is not recommended to add a thickener to them.
If the consistency of the slime becomes watery, add a few grains of salt to the container where it is stored. It will dry out excess moisture and return the slime to its original structure.
Periodically, the toy needs to be "fed" with water and salt. Add warm water mixed with salt to the bottom of the slime container once a week.
Long play or overfeeding may harden the mass
You can fix this by adding a couple of drops of water to the slime and leaving it alone for a few days.
If your purchased toy becomes too sticky, add a few drops of the thickener and refrigerate for a few hours.
Before buying a slime, pay attention to the storage conditions in the store and the date of manufacture of the product.
To keep homemade slime from sticking to your hands, add a couple of drops of vegetable oil to it.
Do not heat the slime on a battery, in the microwave or in any other way - this can lead to stickiness and damage to the toy.
Children under 6 years of age should only play with the slime under the supervision of an adult. Explain in advance that it should not be eaten or applied to the eyes.
When a large amount of activator is added, the slime can begin to tear
To fix this, soften the toy with baby oil or glycerin hand cream.
The shelf life of the purchased slime is from 6 to 12 months, depending on the company. Self-made "lives" from two days to three months. If mold has started up in the slime, it will have to be thrown out.
Why does slime paint my hands?
When traces appear on the skin or other surfaces after contact with a plastic mass, the influence of various factors is assumed:
- Excess pigment, while the paint stands out if you knead the slime with your hands. At the stage of slime preparation, it should be borne in mind that the coloring matter affects the consistency of the mass. An excess of pigment contributes to the appearance of the viscosity of the material,
- The use of unsuitable dyes. If, upon contact with a plastic mass, the hand is colored, and this property manifests itself regardless of the amount of pigment, you need to choose the right ingredients. Some types of formulations are not suitable for making slime, for example, acrylic paint.
- Using ingredients that are past their expiration date. In this case, the materials gradually lose their properties. As a result, paint can color the material poorly and release toxic components. The consequences of using low-quality components are manifested in different ways. Sometimes, when such paint is added, the slime loses its properties: its viscosity increases, the mixture sticks to the hands, the skin and other surfaces are painted.
- In most cases, to obtain a plastic mass, it is recommended to expose the material to low temperatures, for which the container with the slime is placed in the refrigerator for a while. Exposure to heat softens the mass. When heated, the components in its composition melt, thereby increasing the fluidity of the slime. At the same time, pigment is released, which leads to the appearance of marks on the hands and other surfaces. For this reason, it is not recommended to store the slime in the sun or in a too warm room for a long time.
- Frequent "feeding" slime. With use, the composition loses its properties: it dries up, hardens, cracks and stops stretching. To return it to its original capabilities (the ability to change shape, stretch), an additional dose of active components is injected into the mass. Thanks to this, the slime does not break when stretched. However, if you often add water or soda solution to the mass, it will still lose its properties. This is due to a violation of the recipe, an increase in the proportions of active ingredients. As a result, paint is released.
What to do if the slime sticks to your hands?
What to do if the slime sticks to your hands, we determine by the state of the toy and the components included in the composition.
You can fix antistress with the help of materials at hand by the following methods:
- Drying. When you are unsure what to do if the slime sticks to your hands, try drying it. Leave the container with the handgam uncovered for 2-3 hours. If there is a lot of moisture, place the slime on a piece of paper (not on a napkin, as it will stick). Do not overdry.
- Cleaning. Dirt, dust is the reason for the stickiness of the handgam. To prevent the slime from sticking to your hands, clean it.Remove large particles with tweezers and rinse the slime under running water. The method works if the slime is "overfed" with starch or flour.
- Kneading. Knead the store slime with your hands to fix it. If you don't know what to do if the slime sticks to your hands, knead it. In the process of kneading, it thickens.
- Cooling. If the slime sticks to your hands, what to do depends on the storage temperature. The slime, lying in the warmth, spreads. Place in the refrigerator to harden, but do not place in the freezer.
In addition to physical impact, try feeding it to correct the slime. When the slime sticks to your hands, what to add depends on its composition. Add some of these ingredients:
- Borax (sodium tetraborate). Using borax, it is easy to fix a store product or a homemade slime that contains sodium tetraborate. This substance is an effective thickener. Add 1-2 drops of borax to restore the slime.
- Cosmetic oil, cream, or lotion. Lubricate your hands with one of these products. Knead the slime, then place the toy on paper to remove excess grease.
- Soda solution. If the slime sticks to your hands a lot, what to do is determined by the composition of the handgam. The thickener is suitable for homemade slimes. Dissolve 2-3 pinches of baking soda in 1 tsp. water. Add to slime and stir.
- Starch. If the homemade slime sticks to your hands, we decide what to do, focusing on the ingredients of the handgam. If it contains flour or other natural ingredients, a little cornstarch or potato starch will make the slime thicken. But the method "revives" the slime for a short time: after a couple of weeks it will dry out.
- Hydrogen peroxide. The substance liquefies the slime and makes it less sticky. Add peroxide drop by drop, keeping an eye on the consistency of the slime.
- Salt. If the slime sticks due to excess moisture, add a pinch of salt to it and refrigerate. The salt will absorb excess water.
- Boric acid. Purchase the product in the form of a solution from the pharmacy. Add 1 tsp. acid and stir. If the mixture does not thicken, add 1 tsp. starch.
- Gel Persil. Liquid detergent acts as a thickener. Add 5-10 ml of Percil, stir and knead the slime.
- Shaving foam. To eliminate the stickiness of the slime, squeeze out a couple of teaspoons of shaving foam, add to the slime and knead thoroughly with your hands.
Knowing how to make the slime not sticky to your hands can help you fix the toy and extend its shelf life.
