Power selection
In urban high-rise buildings, centralized heating is provided, therefore, the heaters listed above are used, as a rule, as heat sources for additional heating of air in severe frosts. Or as the main ones, but in the off-season, when the heat has not yet been given, but the air temperature outside the window is still not below zero. However, situations are different. For example, in dilapidated houses with worn out communications, "leaky" walls and cracked wooden frames, electric heaters take over the main heating function, so they must have good power.
According to the standards for heating each square meter of living space with a standard ceiling height, 100 watts of thermal energy is required. This means that in order to get a comfortable temperature in a room with an area of 15 sq.m. a heater with a capacity of 1.5-2 kW is required. Or several heaters with such a total area.
If the living room area is more than 15 square meters, there is no point in buying a device with a power less than 2000 W
If the device is used as an additional device, provided that the housing is well insulated, the calculated power can be halved.
Views
Heaters are divided into several main types. Each of the types has features, advantages and disadvantages.
Fan heaters
A fan heater is a heating device that heats up the air flow passing through a heating element using a fan. Such a device will suit you if you do not need to maintain a constant temperature with it, but sometimes you need to quickly heat the air.
The main advantage of this type of heating device is its cost. There are models on the market that cost up to a thousand rubles. Of course, cheap low-power models will not work as the main source of heat, but they can serve as additional heating during the off-season. In addition, a fan heater is used instead of a conventional fan to cool the hot air in summer.
Floor standing
In floor models, heated air is directed upward, evenly distributed throughout the room. This type of heater is considered the most efficient. Such heaters are equipped with a security system that stops the operation of the device if it falls or overheats.
Wall mounted
A massive type of heater that resembles a split system in its appearance.The wall heater is installed in a free place, for example, below, near the floor. The air in such models goes from bottom to top, so they should not be installed under the ceiling.
Ceiling
Ceiling heaters, due to their location, are able to cover the largest amount of space in the room. Models of this variety, as a rule, have an attractive design, therefore, in addition to the heating function, they carry a decorative function.
Oil radiators
The oil cooler is a compact device that is designed for use in a limited area. However, thanks to its mobility, the device can heat the entire living space.
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages of this type of heaters are their safety, reliability, noiselessness, price and lack of odor emission. Disadvantages include a long heating time and a relatively large weight, which, in turn, is compensated by the wheels for movement.
Design features
Oil heater - is a design with an oil container and a heater. When the radiator is turned on, the oil inside heats up and gives up its heat to the case, which heats the space around.
Electric convectors
The essence of the convector's work is to distribute heat evenly throughout the room. The convector is a heating element in a housing with a slotted hole at the bottom and louvers at the top. In turn, heaters in convectors are divided into dry, needle and monolithic.
Dry
Dry convectors are affordable and are mainly used for additional heating. Dry convectors are capable of working in a small area. They are not recommended to be used as the main element for heating, as they increase the toxicity of the air.
Needle
The needle heater is a chrome-nickel filament plate. Such a device is characterized by a high heating temperature and low thermal inertia. The advantage of this type is the affordable cost in the market.
Monolithic
Heaters of this type use a nichrome filament with a dielectric. It is located inside a one-piece aluminum case. Monolithic heaters are quiet and durable. Their design minimizes excess heat loss.
It works on the principle of transferring heat through infrared radiation directly to the surrounding objects. The heat absorbed by objects, in turn, heats the air around.
The best gas wall heaters
Such devices can operate on gas in the pipeline or on liquefied fuel in a cylinder. They are used as the main heating due to their increased power.
Inside there is a burner and a panel that provides heat distribution and air convection. During installation, the devices need to remove the combustion products outside.
Alpine Air NGS-50F - for studio apartment
This is the best gas wall heater for a spacious studio apartment, which does not have internal partitions to trap heat. One device can heat up to 49 m2, therefore, by placing it on the outer wall, you can arrange individual heating in the apartment.
The design of the heater has rounded edges with perforations for air inlet and outlet. All combustion products are removed outside, so there is no dry air in the room.

- needs an electricity connection;
- can only be mounted on a wall adjacent to the street;
- more complex installation by drilling a large hole for the chimney in the bearing support.
The principle of operation and the device of the heater
Regardless of the type of heater, its design includes the following main elements:
1. Case;
2. Heating element;
3. Temperature regulator.
All electric heaters have high efficiency (95-98%), since electrical energy is almost completely converted into heat. The key task of the device is to transfer the maximum amount of thermal energy to the surrounding air or objects.
The principles of heat transfer used in heating devices can be as follows:
1. Direct heat transfer from the surface of the device to space;
2. Creation of directed streams of heated air;
3. Infrared wave radiation (heating of the surrounding surfaces, not the air mass).
Infrared
The principle of operation of infrared heaters is based on the creation of heat rays that absorb objects in the room. After some time, they themselves send rays of heat into the space that surrounds them. Such units are distinguished by the following features:
- quickly heat up a room in an apartment;
- work silently;
- reliable;
- easy to operate.
In addition to all of the above, infrared devices do not burn indoor air. Also, such devices are very economical, since they have the lowest energy consumption among heating devices. When choosing an infrared device, you need to consider that this is the best heater for an apartment with children. The body of such a device does not overheat, so the child will not be able to burn himself, even if he touches it. In addition, the undoubted advantages of an infrared device include the fact that it does not burn oxygen. This avoids the occurrence of headaches, such as when using convectors or oil units.
1. Almac IR 11
This infrared unit can be used at any time of the year. In autumn or spring, it heats a room that occupies up to 23 sq.m., and in winter - up to 15 sq.m. The advantage of such a device is its environmental friendliness. Almac IK 11 does not consume oxygen. The manufacturer gives a 5-year warranty for such a heater.
