How to repair garden paths

Changes in temperature, unexpected snow in early June or a sharp thaw can be one of the reasons for the deterioration of the appearance of garden paths. In this article, I will show you how to restore them. First, clean everything with a brush and plenty of water, this will determine the further scope of work. It is best to start repairs on a sunny and dry day, there should definitely be no rain, including the day before.

Concrete walkway repair

Broken pieces along the edges, cracks and pits must be repaired.

Repair of the chip site:

  • we clean and remove weak areas;
  • we treat with a primer in order to strengthen the coating and improve adhesion;
  • we make the formwork;
  • we cover the chips with a solution;
  • every other day we remove the boards.

To update the top layer:

  • primed;
  • we install the fence;
  • fill in at least 3 cm of solution;
  • in a day we remove the formwork.

Repair of pits and potholes:

  • we clean, prime and fill the pits with a sufficiently liquid solution;
  • align with a spatula;
  • we repair larger holes in the same way with preliminary mesh reinforcement;
  • we additionally strengthen the pits with rubble.

Repair of tile tracks

Once a year, we inspect the tiles for damage, subsidence or discrepancy between tile joints. A cracked or chipped one must be replaced.

Repair of concrete tiles:

  • podded;
  • we remove the soil and fill it with sand;
  • tamp, water and level it;
  • install a whole tile;
  • we knock with a rubber hammer;
  • fill the seams with sand and spill.

We repair a brick path in the same way.

Replacing ceramic tiles:

  • without damaging other tiles, remove the deformed one;
  • remove the old solution (glue) and clean the place;
  • distribute the glue with a spatula;
  • we lay the whole tile;
  • tamp it evenly with a rubber hammer;
  • dry for about a day;
  • fill the holes with a jointer;
  • remove the remains of the fugue with a damp washcloth, dry.

Restoration of a sagging tile track:

  • we take out the sagging plates;
  • remove the soil layer;
  • we lay half a layer of sand-crushed stone mixture, the same amount of sand on top;
  • we carefully tamp it with a roller or vibrating plate;
  • we lay new tiles;
  • fill the tile joints with sand, spill it.

Important: to prevent subsidence, take care of the wastewater disposal in advance.

Repair of wooden paths

  • we clean;
  • we remove rotten pieces of wood;
  • we put new ones;
  • fill the voids with sand, gravel or crushed stone.

Important: before laying, treat the wood from rotting and dry it. These actions will increase the service life.

Repair of combined tracks

Replacement is carried out in the same way as described above, and in the absence of the necessary material, you can replace it with another one.

Recommendations for increasing service life

  • do not use salt and reagents;
  • remove weeds that destroy the base in time;
  • protect from water washout;
  • treat wooden paths annually with a protective compound;
  • decorative concrete paths annually to cover with a water-repellent compound or varnish-sealant;
  • maintain cleanliness.
