How not to waste money on a vegetable garden: 5 tips

I'm sure you have dozens of items in your home, garage or backyard that you can reuse or recycle to improve your garden or even grow it from scratch. And best of all, it won't take a dime!

Your seeds

Don't waste your money on expensive seeds! Instead, save and reuse those left over from your previous "star makers". Cut and dry seed pods from flowers, vegetables and herbs and use them for planting next year. But what if I want to try something new, you ask. It's simple, collect seeds from the groceries you buy at the supermarket, or better yet, start sharing with your neighbors!

Reproduction

Make your garden the envy of your neighbors without spending a dime! Perennials thrive when they are not crowded, so encourage their growth by digging and dividing overgrown bushes and replanting newbies to other parts of the garden. Perennials that are especially easy to divide include Gaillardia, forget-me-nots. Just dig up the flower, cut it into fist-sized pieces and replant. Watering will not be superfluous until new shoots are formed.

Cuttings

Many flowers, such as roses, hydrangeas, gardenias, azaleas, grow best from cuttings. Cut off a few shoots from each plant (15-20 cm) that you want to propagate. Make sure there are 2 or 3 buds on the stem. Remove the leaves and immediately place the cutting in a container of better distilled water. It will take about a month before planting in the soil. Keep the cuttings moist while rooting. When new leaves appear, transplant them anywhere.

Garbage - compost, scraps - vegetable garden

Don't waste money on expensive composts: just save all your kitchen and garden waste to create your own compost pile. In a few weeks, you will be able to use your personal supply of nutrients to enrich the soil throughout your garden without spending a penny on it.

Also, did you know that many vegetables can be grown from leftovers? Lettuce, potatoes, garlic, ginger, celery, onions and more. If you want to have ginger and potatoes in your garden, use vegetables with several separate sprouts or "eyes". Plant the entire root vegetable or cut it into small pieces, each with at least two "eyes." For other vegetables, place the end of the root in a jar, then add enough water to cover the root, but not the entire plant. Put the jar in a sunny place and you will see growth in three to five days. Transplant the seedling into a pot and water well until you decide that it can already be planted in the ground.

Broth vegetable garden

After you've cooked pasta, potatoes, or vegetables, think twice before throwing this healthy concoction down the drain! Until you add salt, you can reuse this water for irrigation! After it cools, of course.
