Japanese gardens are the embodiment of the natural beauty of nature in miniature. Such a corner can be done on your own site in 5 steps, knowing some of the nuances.
The main elements of such a garden are flowing water or a path between stones and fabulous plants.
- So, the first step is choosing the right location. For such a corner, a light, but slightly shaded, small slope with acidic soil (ph6) is suitable.
- The second step is to organize a decorative waterfall lined with boulders. Or a decorative path going down. Moreover, there is no need to put stones in the upper part. There you need to prepare a place for trees and shrubs.
- The third step is plant selection. For example: Japanese maple and skimmia, kalmia.
- The fourth step is planting plants.
Japanese maple 3-5 m tall. In the spring it is covered with purple-red flowers. The green leaves turn bright red-orange in autumn. Give them the top accent.
Japanese skimmia is an evergreen shrub, reaches a height of 1 m, with dark green leaves. The plant has female and male varieties. The first ones in spring are covered with yellow-white paniculate flowers after which red berries appear. Shrubs of both sexes are required. Requires winter shelter. Place them below the maple tree on the right side.
Calmia broadleaf should be planted in natural groups, under the maple, just below and to the left. It is a sprawling bush of 2-3 m, with shiny green poisonous leaves. From May to June, it blooms with bell-shaped flowers of different shades from white to red, there are also two-color ones. The plant is winter hardy.
- Fifth step. Cover them with stones.
At the bottom, between the boulders, put humus in the loosened soil. Plant the centipede in these places. It is a fern with light green fan-like leaves growing up to 40 cm long.
Such a garden requires annual pruning and maintenance, otherwise it will look sloppy.
Other plants can be used as well.
From flowering trees: Coase derain, Sulange magnolia, Japanese cherry, three-lobed almond.
Evergreens: pine, crenate holly, blunt cypress.
Flowering shrubs: peony, campanulate encianthus, pieris and Japanese quince.
Perennial flowers: daylilies, pachisander, hosta, Japanese primrose.
The main thing is that the plantings look natural, with beautiful foliage and only a small number of flowers.
