Rose Angel Wings from seed
HE. Tsvetkova, Izhevsk
Dear Olga Nikolaevna, I grew Wings of Angels roses several years ago, I really liked her - delicate and tirelessly blooming. Flowers were both simple and double, white and pink on one plant (photo 2).
By the way, the Angel Wings rose is very changeable, this is understandable, because it is grown from seeds. Some plants turn out to be more successful and terry, while others are simple and almost white, compare photos 2 and 3.
According to the gardeners who grew this rose, plants grown from imported seeds form more double flowers.
In the future, it is advised to grow it from cuttings, choosing the best bushes from the seedlings. Cuttings root well.
However, plants grown from seeds are more winter-hardy, since they have a deep taproot. This is the advantage of growing roses from seeds - high winter hardiness. The seeds are also inexpensive. With good germination, you can grow several bushes for a whole border for 20 rubles. By the way, the Angel Wings in the border are very beautiful!
But one day I decided to transplant her into a rockery and check how she hibernates without shelter. I dug a bush with a clod of earth, and it quickly took root. But that year there were severe frosts without snow. In December, the temperature dropped below 20 degrees, and there was no snow. The rosette is dead.
This year I have planted Angel Wings again. I took seeds from two producers. I must say right away that the seeds were not of the best quality, they looked white, unripe. Of the 12 seeds, only two sprouted (and just those that had a dark shell).
I took purchased soil - “Rose” soil. Loose, light soil is a prerequisite for a successful sowing.
The seeds were sown superficially, NOT covered with soil, sprinkled with vermiculite on top. The container was closed with a transparent lid and placed on the battery, placing a newspaper folded in several layers under the bowl. Keep the temperature warm, not hot, otherwise the seeds will steam.
Every day I opened the lid to shake off the condensation and check for seedlings. On the fourth day, I removed the seedlings from the battery and put them on the windowsill
And here it is important that there is no draft!
On the 12th day, seedlings appeared. Immediately transferred them under the lamp for additional lighting. But they managed to stretch out slightly, since the crops were in the office, and I could only follow them during working hours (photo 5).
The first days the seedlings grew under a closed lid, then I had to remove it, since it is very low.
I water the seedlings under the root with warm water. I do not recommend spraying, they can get sick.
In the future, you need to transplant each seedling separately into a glass or into a pot. But do not take a large container right away. The soil, which has not been mastered by the roots, will turn sour, and this provokes a “black leg”.
Two weeks after the emergence of shoots, the roses begin to feed. You can use Fertika or liquid humic fertilizers. But the dose should be reduced by half, since the seedlings are still very weak. Fertilizers are gradually brought to normal.
Angel Wings bloom three months after sowing. However, it is better to cut off the first buds so that there will be more flowers in the future. Pinching stimulates the branching of the bush and makes it more luxuriant. The Wings of Angels are planted in the ground at the end of May and must be shaded for several days. In the first winter, the seedlings are covered in the usual way (spruce branches and spunbond).
Dear readers, the video “How to grow roses from seeds” can be viewed on our website in the section.
Seed method of growing roses
Seeds are taken in late July or August. The fruits at this time have a beautiful red or yellow color. It is necessary to select fruits with a slight blush. From unripe fruits, seeds usually germinate better than from ripe ones.
Carefully cut the skin of the fruit and divide it into two halves.
Carefully remove the seeds, separating them from the pulp. Seeds, both purchased and from your site, can be of different shapes
This shouldn't confuse you. The shape of the seed will only affect the originality of the grown flower. Before sowing, the seed is sometimes soaked in growth stimulants (heteroauxin, root). This procedure activates the growth process, accelerates the emergence of the first shoots.
Seed stratification
Before starting to grow a seed, it must go through a stratification procedure. Stratification is one of the methods of pre-sowing seed preparation. This term means interlayering. The seed is layered with a moist substrate and stored at a certain temperature. Under natural conditions, seeds germinate only after lying in the ground under a layer of snow during the winter. Thanks to the snow cover, the seed receives the optimum temperature and the necessary moisture. The same regime should be created artificially when growing some types of roses.
This requires a piece of cloth, paper towel, or cotton pads. Soak the prepared material with peroxide, spread the seeds on top of it and cover with a dampened piece of cloth or cotton pad. They also use coffee filters, against their dark background, the beaks are clearly visible. The density of the filters does not allow sprouts to grow into the material.
Seed napkins are placed in plastic bags so that the peroxide does not evaporate. On each package, an inscription is made with the name of the variety of the mother flower and the date of the bookmark for stratification. The packages are placed in the vegetable sector of the refrigerator, where the temperature must be maintained within the range of +4 - + 5 ° С.
Sowing seeds
Seed that sprouted earlier than expected is sown immediately. Separate pots or peat tablets are used for sowing seeds. During the cultivation of a rose, sometimes the disease "black leg" appears. To protect against this ailment, the surface must be mulched with a 1 cm layer of perlite. Constant monitoring of soil moisture is required.
Shoots appear on the 3rd-7th day. In some seedlings, the "cap" of the shell does not fall off. It is recommended to drip drops of water onto the casing to facilitate the process. From the moment of germination, the sprouts need 10-hour daylight hours for their normal development. Therefore, additional lighting equipment is indispensable.
The bud should appear in about two months. And after 3-5 weeks the first flowers will bloom. The plants need to continue to be monitored. Water the seedlings regularly and apply soluble fertilizers in a strictly metered manner.
Angel Wings are also called Angelwings.
... It belongs to perennials, both garden and potted. Despite the fact that the tropics remain his homeland, he feels great in the Russian climate.
How to take care of Angel Wings?
The Chinese rose is demanding on temperature, therefore, in many countries, including Russia, in winter when grown in the open field, it can die.
Temperature
The ideal temperature for a Chinese rose is considered to be + 24 ° С ... + 30 ° С.
Rose roots need protection from overheating when exposed to direct sunlight. The plant dies at temperatures below +10 ° C. Most often, the Chinese rose lives on the street only in the summer, for wintering it is transferred inside the room.
Watering
During active growth and flowering, the plant is watered abundantly. If it is in a pot, then the water is poured into the pan. You can pour a little under the roots to slightly moisten the topsoil. Stagnant water has a negative effect on the rose. It is recommended to spray its leaves. After it fades, and the leaves begin to fall off, the plant is not watered, only the earth is sometimes moistened.
Light
Chinese rose angel wings prefers warmth and light.
Indoors, it should be placed on the southern windows. For flowering to be long and abundant, it must be in the sun for 4-6 hours.
Priming
This flower grows well in airy and moderately moisture-consuming soil. You can buy ready-made soil or do it yourself by mixing:
- peat substrate;
- humus;
- sand.
Important!
Before planting a flower, the soil must be treated with a special agent that will prevent fungal or bacterial infections from developing.
Pruning
Chinese rose pruning is done after flowering
... You need to delete branches:
- dry;
- damaged;
- old.
Cut with a sharp pruner, which is disinfected in alcohol in advance.
Places of cuts must be treated with crushed activated carbon. Top dressing The Chinese rose is fed once every 2 weeks, from March to July. The rest of the time, you do not need to fertilize it. For feeding, you can use any universal fertilizer intended for potted flowers. The procedure is performed in the morning.
Transfer and wintering
A variety of Chinese roses such as Angel Wings grows quickly, so it is transplanted several times a year. And every time they take a pot with a diameter larger than the previous one. In order for the transplant to pass safely, the roots must be pulled out together with an earthen clod.
In the fall, a Chinese rose is often dug up and transferred to the premises until March.
with a temperature of + 3 ° C ... + 5 ° C. If it is decided to leave it on the street, then experienced flower growers advise to bend the flower to the ground, wrap it in dense non-woven material. It is advisable to build a frame on top, insulated with hay or spruce branches.
Pests, diseases
Important. If the care is completely correct, then pests and diseases will not bother the rose.
Spider mite
Millimeter insects that cover the leaves of plants with a barely noticeable cobweb. The leaves turn yellow, fall off and wither. Because of it, the plant can be affected by gray rot. As a preventive measure, the plant must be regularly sprayed, but not to allow stagnation of water in the rosebuds.
It is imperative to remove fallen leaves and dried buds. If the disease still overtook the rose, then it needs to be sprayed even more often. You can water the plant well and cover it with a plastic bag for three days. The mites should die from high humidity.
You can also irradiate the underside of the leaves with ultraviolet light. But in this case, it is better to prevent the appearance of the pest, since the fight against it greatly exhausts the rose and its owner.
Aphid
One aphid does not pose a threat, but if there is a lot of it, then the plant is in real danger. The leaves of the diseased plant will turn yellow, wrap in tubes and fall off. The flower will become lethargic and will not bloom, but if there are a lot of pests, then the leaves will become sticky from the secretions of aphids.
It is easier to prevent the appearance of aphids than to deal with them later. But it is quite possible to win the victory. If aphids have settled on a plant in the amount of several pieces, then you can try to rinse the leaves with very cold water or wipe them with soapy water.
If aphids have already taken over the plant as a habitat, then you will have to use special chemicals that can be purchased at the store. After defeating the aphids, the Angel Wings will recover for some time, and at this time they need especially careful care.
Chlorosis of leaves
An unpleasant illness caused by violation of the conditions of his detention. Appears with improper care.
The leaves begin to change shape, curl, stains of dirty flowers appear on them, rosebuds fall off without blooming.
Chlorosis is a disease in which the plant lacks Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Potassium and other substances.
To save a flower, it is worth transplanting it into a new substrate with the necessary fertilizers, and spraying the leaves thoroughly and every day.
If the disease has just begun, then you can do without transplanting by adding nutrients to the soil.
Absolutely all diseases of "Angelwings" arise from improper care, so if all the rules are followed, the plant must be absolutely healthy. If there are any signs of the disease, then you need to immediately correct the errors in the content of this flower. This can nip the disease in the bud.
At home, almost all types of hibiscus require relatively simple care - and in gratitude please the owners with lush bright flowers. Read our materials about the features of growing rosella or Sudanese, red-leaved, Syrian, marsh, bush, herbaceous hibiscus.

Can you get it yourself from an adult plant?
The flowers of the Chinese rose form pods that contain the seed. When they ripen, they open, and the seeds fall to the ground, from where they germinate. To use the planting material for planting in a specific place, you must first collect it:
- The ripeness of the pods can be determined by their brown color.
- Cover the plant with paper bags before dumping. This will prevent the planting material from scattering on the ground after opening the pods.
- Open the pods with your hands or with a knife, and collect the resulting seeds in a bag. Do not be alarmed if they are of different colors, since they do not ripen simultaneously.
Selection
After collecting the seeds, they should be sorted out to exclude small, unripe or damaged seeds.
Attention! Larger diameter seeds are best as they sprout faster and produce strong, healthy sprouts.
Conclusion
Rose "Angelwings" is an excellent choice for the garden and home.
It will delight the owner's eye and look really beautiful. And caring for her is simple and enjoyable.
Angel Wings - Chinese Rose Angel Wings: Tips for Care and Growing from Seed
Angel wings are a type of Chinese rose or Chinese hibiscus... The perennial variety is both a garden and a pot plant. And he feels great in the weather conditions of Russia.
The Chinese rose Angelwings got its name for a reason. Her appearance fully corresponds to him. Small bush up to 20 cm tall. It has small neat leaves of a rich bright green color, a thin but strong stem of the same green color. There can be a very large number of leaves, they can vary greatly in size. The most important thing is the flowers collected in inflorescences. One bush can have up to one hundred inflorescences. Flowers are most often white or pink, and all their shades. The petals can be double or smooth. As the whole plant grows, the number of petals increases, at the end of growth, an elastic bud is formed.
Angel wings are considered unpretentious plants, but with improper care they die very quickly. This variety is germinated from seeds. There are usually a little more than ten of them in a package. Growing Angel Wings Sino Rose from seeds is not an easy task. The seeds must be placed in a special substrate (sold in stores) to a depth of 5 mm, sprinkle with earth on top, slightly moistening it, and cover with glass. The glass can be removed from time to time to moisten the soil and saturate it with oxygen. You can make the soil yourself. Pour drainage (for example, crushed polystyrene) on the bottom of the pot, pour a universal flower mixture, add sand, and on top of a peat tablet, after soaking it in hot water.
For greater confidence, before planting seeds, they can be soaked in water or a weak solution of potassium permanganate for 2 weeks. The first shoots should appear within 30 days.
During the growth period and during the flowering period, you need to water abundantly (and if the flower is outdoors, and if the flower is in a pot at home). If the plant is in a pot, then you need to pour water into the pan, only a little water can be poured under the roots of the flower to moisten the top layer of the soil. Stagnant water also has a bad effect on the flower, so it is better to pour out the remaining water from the sump. The topsoil must always be moist. The leaves must be sprayed. After the cessation of flowering, when the leaves begin to fall off, watering must be stopped, only occasionally moisten with an earthen lump. Lighting, temperature Plants are very fond of light and warmth. If the house has windows facing south, then it is better to put the Angel Wings there. The same applies to the situation with open ground. For a long and persistent flowering, flowers need 4-6 hours a day in the sun. The ideal temperature is from +24 to +30. If the temperature drops below +10, then the plant will die. However, if the temperature is very high, and the sun's rays are direct, then it is imperative to protect the roots of the rose from overheating. It is better to do this immediately upon planting, sprinkling the roots on top with an extra 2-3 cm of earth. Top dressing Angelwings hibiscus must be fed. Any all-purpose pot plant product will do. Also, this type of plant needs magnesium. It is better to take magnesium in a chelated form. You need to feed the flower in the morning, in a cool time, once a week. It is possible more often, but then the dose should be significantly reduced.
Flowers grow very quickly, so you have to stock up on a lot of pots.Young plants several times a year. As it grows, it is necessary to transplant into a pot with a large diameter. Adult plants are transplanted less often - once every few years. For a safe transplant, the earthen ball must be completely braided by the roots of the plant.
